Is Roman Reigns vs. The Rock A WWE WrestleMania Main event?

It’s 8 months until WrestleMania 35, but already WWE is making plans for the biggest PPV of the year. One rumor that’s currently making the rounds is that Roman Reigns is set to fight The Rock at WrestleMania.

The Rock vs Roman Reigns is a big time dream match. On the one side you have the most electrifying man in sports entertainment turned Hollywood heavyweight The Rock. Then on the other there’s the new face of WWE Roman Reigns. Add in the fact that The Rock and Reigns are cousins and this has the potential for an engaging feud.

While The Rock and Roman Reigns is undoubtedly a WrestleMania worthy match and would garner a lot of media attention, it shouldn’t be the main event of next year’s WrestleMania.

First off, let me apologize for anyone who wanted to see Reigns fight The Rock inside a WWE ring. But there are a few reasons why the match won’t go over well with fans.

Roman Reigns Main Events WrestleMania Again

The WWE Universe has a love/hate relationship with Roman Reigns. He’s a good wrestler, but it’s the booking decisions that have people disliking him. As the face of the company, WWE wants to continue to push him in the main event spotlight.

If he’s the Universal champion heading into WrestleMania, it’s safe to say he’s going to be in the main event. However, given that this will be his fifth time main eventing WrestleMania, some fans aren’t going to be happy.

Part Timer Stealing The Spotlight

If there’s one thing that the WWE Universe hates more than Roman Reigns, it’s part timers coming back to WWE. This hatred stems from stars such as Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar returning to WWE to main event PPVs and earn championship opportunities.

Many feel that this is unfair to the current roster who work day after day, putting their bodies on the line to entertain the crowds. If the current rumors about The Rock are true, it looks like another deserving wrestler is going to get kicked off the PPV in favor of a part-timer.

Based on how hostile the WWE crowds can be, The Rock may not be receiving a warm welcome upon his return.

Can The Rock Still Wrestle?

Since his departure in 2004, The Rock has continued to make appearances on WWE television and has even given a beat down to a heel wrestler. His last full-length match came at WrestleMania 29, where John Cena beat him for the WWE Championship. Since then, The Rock has been limited with wrestling matches.

So this raises the question on whether The Rock’s wrestling ability.

At 46, he’s still in great shape, but with time away from the ring can he still put on exciting matches like he once did?

As with all things WWE, plans could change, although knowing Vince McMahon he won’t miss the chance to have Reigns fight The Rock. If this match does happen, it’s going to be interesting to see the fans’ reaction and whether Reigns and The Rock can deliver in their build up to the feud.
