The Good, Bad and Ugly: SummerSlam 2018 Post Show

The Bad

I proclaimed this one would be a Good One, but the SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match featuring Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs. New Day did not deliver for me. Right off the bat my two favorite New Day Members Woods and Big E were the chosen ones.  This match was Fruit Loops! Nothing Booty about it, great action and the crowd was hot.  Brutal strikes from Harper, high spots from Woods, and Big E is one of those big guys that move around like a man half his size.  Then it happened.  All ruined when WWE put the “Hammer” down.  A DQ in a great match like that ruined all of the wonder the match had built.  What a shame, New Day Rocked but left with nothing.

The Ugly

I had low expectations for the WWE Championship Match between AJ Styles (c) and Samoa Joe.  AJ is the best in the world, and Joe can work well, although I despise him.  He is stiff and a complete joke of a person. The match is slow and stiff, vicious much like the feud buildup.  There was a lot of aggression, some excellent surprises and the crowd was way into it.  The way they went into the ending, being able to barely stand but giving energy that guys half their age couldn’t give really showed just how seasoned they are.  Then the cheese set in, loss by DQ, AJ is still the Champ.  They could have had this type of ending any other time, but it just isn’t SummerSlam worthy.

Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz had all of the makings of a real classic.  And it was, Miz playing a classic heel taking every advantage and cheap shot he could.  Daniel Bryan using 8 years of pent up aggression toward the enemy of the people.  You cannot ever overestimate a true Heel vs Babyface fight which is what this was.  When you are a heel, cheat to win, and congrats to the Miz for being a top heel at all times.  Overall the match was a dud and quite boring at times.  I found myself disengaged, and it hurt my overall opinion on such a strong card.
