WWE News: Latest On John Cena’s Return To The Ring
It’s been months now since the last time we saw WWE Superstar John Cena inside of a squared circle, having his last match back on April 29th at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia against Triple H where he picked up the victory. Cena has of course slowed down his in-ring schedule over the past couple of years as his demand in Hollywood has increased, most recently promoting his movie Blockers and doing work on the upcoming Transformers spin-off prequel Bumblebee during his most recent hiatus from the company.
While some have certainly enjoyed no longer seeing Cena on WWE programming as much, there is still that fan base eagerly awaiting his inevitable return to the ring. Some believed he could return for SummerSlam on August 19th from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, however Cena posted the following on Twitter over the weekend to reveal he will be back for a show in China on September 1st:
The 6th move of doom.
Ready for #WWEShanghai.

EA’s Take: Does WWE really even need John Cena anymore? Obviously he’s great for promotion, charity work and name value. Plus, he can still give a good match, but Roman Reigns has really taken the mantle as WWE’s top guy. If anything, I can say that his breaks from the company have certainly made his appearances more special. Personally, I’m just in no rush for him to come back because quite frankly, he doesn’t need to. I get that wrestling is like a drug for some guys and they just can’t let go (see Ric Flair), but I don’t know why you would continue to destroy your body. Especially a guy like Cena who has had a number of MAJOR surgeries through the course of his career.
