Baron Corbin Shines As New WWE Raw General Manager

Every now and then a WWE wrestler will undergo a gimmick change. Sometimes it works out for the best, other times it doesn’t.

One wrestler who underwent a gimmick changer earlier this year is Baron Corbin.

The early days of Baron Corbin

Since making his main roster debut in 2016, Corbin’s career has had its ups and downs. He spent two years on Smackdown, where he was seen as one of the rising stars on the blue brand. With his heelish attitude and his athletic ability, Corbin was on his way to becoming the next big thing in WWE.

However, after lost his MITB cash-in to Jinder Mahal, thanks to interference from John Cena, Corbin’s momentum shifted. Sure, he did have a reign as United States champion, but many felt Baron’s career nosedived after the failed MITB cash-in attempt.

The “New” Baron Corbin

When Corbin was drafted to RAW earlier this year, it gave him the opportunity for a new start. So WWE decided to give him a new gimmick. Baron shaved his head and traded his ring attire for a suit. Calling himself Constable Corbin, Baron became Stephanie McMahon’s new representative of RAW.

Like many fans, I was skeptical about Corbin’s new gimmick. The name Constable Corbin was awful and I figured this was the beginning of Baron becoming a jobber.

Let’s face it Corbin didn’t get off to a great start with his new role, sure he had a feud with Finn Balor, but it was a rivalry the WWE Universe couldn’t get invested in. But recently, Corbin’s stepped up to become a more prominent figure on the red brand.

Corbin began questioning the decisions of RAW’s General Manager Kurt Angle. Often Baron would go behind Kurt’s back and change matches. Baron’s actions lead to tension between him and Kurt, foreshadowing a potential feud with the two.

Now that Stephanie has put Kurt Angle on a permanent vacation, Corbin is filling in as the new General Manager of RAW. Since taking over the show, Corbin has been excelling as a heel GM.

He’s already gained heat from the crowds due having The Shield arrested and leading a locker room attack on the trio. Then on the recent episode of Monday Night RAW, Corbin decided to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. Even though he lost the match, Baron showed that he’s still one of the company’s rising stars and a natural born heel.

The new Constable/GM role has been one of the best things to happen to Baron Corbin. Not only is he part of a huge storyline on RAW, but he’s showing that he has the caliber to be a future main-eventer. With Kurt Angle set to return soon, rumors are that he and Corbin will have a match in the near future for RAW’s GM position. While all signs point to Kurt regaining his position, WWE would be wise to have Corbin win this feud.

They have a good thing going with Baron Corbin’s new role and WWE shouldn’t do anything to kill his momentum again.
