Is WWE Wasting the Talent of the Women’s Division?

WWE has gone to great lengths to promote their Women’s Revolution. They’ve started giving the female stars more screen time along with main-eventing PPVs and competing in grueling matches such as inside Hell in a Cell. Let’s not forget that they also created the first ever women’s Royal Rumble and next month the women will headline their own PPV called Evolution.

These moments are great for the women’s division and seeing the interviews with the ladies, you can tell how excited they are to be involved in the history making moments.

Yet, I can’t help but wonder, is this enough to fix the women’s division.

First off, let me say that I’m happy the women are getting more time in the ring. However, my main issue with the division these days is there seems to be a lack of creativity with the storylines.

Of course on Smackdown there’s the story of underdog/heel Becky Lynch who fighting her former best friend Charlotte Flair for the championship. Becky and Charlotte’s story is one of the hottest going on now in WWE.

As for RAW, we’ve got Ronda Rousey set to defend her championship against WWE’s newest darling Alexa Bliss. After the program with Bliss ends, Rousey is set to feud with Nikki Bella, which will lead to their match at Evolution.

Aside from the championship picture, there’s not really any engaging storylines for the rest of the women. Which leads me to question, is WWE wasting the talents of the other female wrestlers?

Let’s take a look at a few of the women, whose talent is being wasted.

Ember Moon

Much like other NXT stars before her, Ember Moon’s main roster debut has been a dud. It started out promising as she had great matches with Alexa Bliss and The Riott Squad. Ember even participated in the Women’s MITB match back in June. Yet, these days Ember is hardly seen on RAW, and is only seen on WWE’s Main Event.

The IIconics

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce were a hit with their heelish antics. After tearing it up in NXT, they made their main roster debut in April. So far their time on the Smackdown roster hasn’t been memorable. Aside from an occasional match, in which most of the time they lose, Kay and Royce have been floundering.

Asuka

Again another NXT star, who’s struggled since debuting on the main roster. Asuka was an unstoppable force in NXT, going undefeated and holding the Women’s Championship for over 500 days before she had to relinquish it to injury. When she arrived on the main roster, her undefeated streak remained intact, until her Wrestlemania 34 match with Charlotte Flair, which she lost. Sure, she got two more chances at the Smackdown Women’s Championship, but lost to Carmella. Now, Asuka’s teaming with Naomi to take on The IIconics. While she and Naomi will make a great tag team, this new pairing is viewed as a huge depush considering she NXT’s longest reigning Women’s champion.

These stars along with a few other ladies on the roster are victims of creative’s booking. Just because they’re not in the championship picture doesn’t mean they should be cast aside. If WWE really cares about their women’s division, they need to start focusing on the other wrestlers. WWE needs to give the ladies engaging feuds and matches to showcase how talented these ladies are and to get fans invested in the storylines.
