This Is The Street Profits We Need

While this week’s episode was entertaining as always it felt like a lot of the storylines were holding out for upcoming weeks. The thing that most stood out to e was the performance of the Street Profits.

I have never really been a fan of the Street Profits. While there’s no doubt that they’re both tremendous athletes I don’t really understand what the characters are supposed to be. The fact that the full sail crowd are so into them further confused me.

The more I watched them the more I worried for them on the main roster. The looked to be a cross between Cryme Tyme and the New Day. In that they would have they would have Cryme Tyme’s position on the card and be as annoying and over the top as the New Day can be at times.

They’re match this past week with the Mighty has given me some hope for the Street Profits and made me interested in them.

The Mighty had stolen the Street Profits gold chain and plastic cup (god wrestling’s silly sometimes). When the Street Profits came out they it wasn’t there usual energetic entrance they looked serious for once. The Mighty tried to talk trash until Dawkins laid out Throne with one punch.

The match was really good with Ford being isolated with for much of the match. The Mighty picked up the win getting them over as dastardly heels and the Street Profits as the underdog faces.

Maybe it’s because they haven’t really been involved in a story in there time in NXT so far so there hasn’t been anything for me to invest in. They were the underdogs here so I was able to invest in them. Ford had a bad landing on his leg so now they’ve got an injury to overcome. Hopefully it’s only a kayfabe injury because no matter how I feel about a wrestler it’s never good to see someone get injured.

Characters like the Street Profits are the kind of characters most likely to suffer from the main roster curse because they main roster writers don’t understand what their character is so don’t know how to book them. This ultimately leads to them being lost in the shuffle.

I think they need another year or so in NXT to fully define what their characters are to hopefully give them a better chance on the main roster. I don’t see them as being NXT Tag Title competitors just yet but with more time they could be if they keep up were they look to be going.

I compared them before to the New Day in quite a negative way but that’s only cause when the New Day don’t have a story they can just be unbearable. Having said that when they do get serious like in their feud with the Usos they can be excellent.

The problem is they don’t know how to balance the seriousness with the silly and that’s something the Street Profits need to figure out how to do.
