Best In Show: WWE SmackDown Live

AJ Styles WWE Smackdown

Ever since we saw the superstar shake up, SmackDown Live gain some life after a terrible 2017 thanks in most part to bad creative and Jinder Mahal as WWE champion. Now SmackDown is the best show WWE can offer on TV every week and in terms of quality for the most part is good, and it is beating RAW almost very week.

The first thing SmackDown does right, is that the show focuses a little bit more on the in-ring action and wins and loses do matter in the blue brand, a great example of this could be Becky Lynch winning her matches to earn a title shot. Because SmackDown gives focus to wrestling matches performers like Andrade Cien Almas, Samoa Joe and other can show how great they are in the ring.

SmackDown also has the advantage of not having in it’s roster wrestlers like Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey who Vince is trying to push over other wrestlers and for the most part they are the protagonists of every RAW. Not having these two wrestlers gives SmackDown creative more options and in a sense freedom.

The tag team Division from SmackDown live is the strongest of the two brands and having teams like The Usos, The Club, The Bar and the New Day gives the division great matches and are not doomed to be boring like most of the matches of the RAW tag division have been for the most part of 2018. But a negative would’ve to be the terrible booking of Sanity and The Club not being used at all as of this moment.

The Women’s division has its ups and downs but in general it’s been very solid. The Carmella Title reign had some great promos but also bad matches and the division for a awhile felt that it was not going nowhere with Carmella as champion but SmackDown manage to turn things around and now Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair are delivering the most personal feud of the year and the matches have been great too. A negative of SmackDown in the women’s division would be the booking of Asuka after losing her streak and the scripted promos given to The IIconics.

Despite all the good creatively we see on SmackDown, The US title has yet to improve and for the most part this championship feels just like a prop and nothing else. Winning the US Title as of this moment doesn’t mean anything but seeing the current track record SmackDown has, I could see them doing some changes to improve the current state of the championship.

Another positive SmackDown has is the fact they know how to use comedy acts in the show, while the red brands like to go to cartoonish levels of comedy, doing this gives the audience a tiny break of action, the comedy work of R-Truth has been a highlight of SmackDown’s year.

AJ Styles as the WWE champion has been great for the brand, except for a disappointing feud with Shinsuke Nakamura, AJ has been for the most part the MVP of 2018 for SmackDown Live. Becky Lynch turning heel has made SmackDown a billion times better and currently she is the most entertaining wrestler In the show thanks to her new attitude.Samoa Joe has been delivering some of the best promos in WWE and his work as a heel is out of this world.

SmackDown is doing great but it still need to improve in some aspects but the creative team of SmackDown keeps this level and change some things, SmackDown could become the A show in the eyes of the fans and Vince McMahon himself.
