Joe’s CMLL Review & Ratings (10/15/2018)
Heavyweight Championship Tournament
Rush, Ultimo Guerrero, Diamante Azul, El Terrible, Kraneo, Shocker, Volcano, Rey Bucanero, Blue Panther Jr, Gran Guerrero, El Valiente, and Euforia.
I believe this match will follow similar rules to the grand prix match. Valiente starts with Ultimo Guerrero to start the match off. Blue Panther Jr and Gran Guerrero get in and work quickly but Terrible and Kraneo soon get in. Rush comes in and they double team Kraneo. Random thought but Valiente looks like a replica smaller version of Diamante Azul. Kraneo hits a tilt-a-whirl back breaker on Terrible and as he goes for the splash Terrible rolls out bringing in Volcano and Shocker. Volcano kicks him to the outside bringing in Azul and Rey Bucanero. They quickly get out and Gran Guerrero and Panther Jr work. Panther Jr quickly hits a dive to the outside. Rush and Ultimo are in there now. Rush slowly takes off his shirt, and the women cheer. When they get to the outside the rudos and technicos start brawling.
Finally Bucanero and Valiente get in the ring. Valiente hits a monkey flip then a middle rope dive to the outside. Kraneo and Shocker get in there now. They trade chops against the ropes. Panther Jr and Gran Guerrero get back in and Panther hits a power slam for a close two. Gran Guerrero catches Blue Panther Jr in a guillotine for the submission. Gran Guerrero submits Blue Panther Jr with a guilotine.
First Elimination: Blue Panther Jr
The Guerrero’s double Volcano but he is able to fight back. Rush and Terrible double team Shocker. Rush hits a drop kick in the corner and pins Shocker. Rush pins Shocker with a corner drop kick.
Second Elimination: Shocker
Volcano and Gran Guerrero get in there next and Volcano hits a corner splash. Volcano hits a body slam and goes to the top but Guerrero intercepts him and hits a superplex for the pin. Gran Guerrero pins Volcano with a superplex.
Third Elimination: Volcano
Kraneo gets in there with Ultimo Guerrero. Kraneo hits a big splash in the corner, then his midget hits Ultimo with a splash. Diamante Azul and Bucanero get in the match now. Bucanero rolls up Azul for a close two count. Bucanero tries to remove Azul’s mask. Gran Guerrero and Kraneo get back in the ring. Euforia and Ultimo help do their double team spot on the ramp hitting the launching splash. Gran goes for a sunset flip but Kraneo sits down on him and then hits a leg drop for the pin. Kraneo eliminates Gran Guerrero with a leg drop.
Fourth Elimination: Gran Guerrero
Valiente gets in there with Terrible. He goes for a hurricanrana but Terrible reverses it into a power bomb for the pin. Terrible eliminates Valiente with a power bomb.
Fifth Elimination: El Valiente
Diamante Azul gets in there with Euforia and almost immediately gets him in a camel clutch for the fall. Diamante Azul submits Euforia with a camel clutch.
Sixth Elimination: Euforia
Kraneo gets in and hits a big splash on Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero. Guerrero then holds Kraneo in place and Bucanero hits a whisper in the wind for the pin. Rey Bucanero pins Kraneo with a whisper in the wind.
Seventh Elimination: Kraneo
Rush quickly gets in and clotheslines Bucanero and then him and Terrible both hit him with basement drop kicks for the pin. Rush and Terrible hit basement drop kicks on Bucanero for the pin.
Eighth Elimination: Rey Bucanero
Azul gets in there with Terrible. Azul soon hits a big german suplex for the pin. Diamante Azul pins El Terrible with a german suplex.
Ninth Elimination: El Terrible
The final three are Rush, Ultimo Guerrero, and Diamante Azul. Azul press slams Rush into Guerrero, then Rush gets up and takes Azul’s mask off then kicks him in the groin to set the final two. Rush eliminates himself by removing Azul’s mask.
Final Elimination: Rush
Azul and Ultimo will face each other this Tuesday for the Heavyweight Championship.
Winners: Diamante Azul and Ultimo Guerrero.
Caristico, Flip Gordon, and David Finlay vs Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero
Sanson starts off with Flip Gordon and they do some chain wrestling. It quickly breaks down into a brawl. David Finlay gets the courage to try and take on these three on his own but he fails, the numbers are too much. Now Flip gets triple teamed and gets hit with a spinning sit out slam for the pin. Forastero hits a clothesline and Cuatrero launches Sanson into a senton for the fall. First Fall: Sanson gets launched for a senton into Finlay for the pin.
Caristico gets triple teamed to start out. Next on the list to get triple teamed is Finlay. He gets hit with a back breaker and now Flip Gordon is trying his hand. Caristico is back being triple teamed. He starts to make his own come back hitting a hurricanrana on Forastero then hits a middle rope dive. Flip hits a rolling fireman’s carry then then hits a frog splash on Sanson for the pin. He gave a little Eddie Guerrero flair to it. Finlay also hits a stunner on Cuatrero for the pin. Second Fall: Flip Gordon pins Sanson with a frog splash.
Finlay starts with Forastero and hits an atomic drop and he eventually goes to the outside. Gordon is in next with Cuatrero. They trade some acrobatic spots and Gordon hits a kick to the outside and the hits a flipping dive over the top. Caristico is now in there with Sanson. He hits a big arm drag and then feigns a dive. Cuatrero is back in with Flip. He pulls down his straps and the women go crazy. He hits a falcon arrow and Forastero breaks up the pin. He hits a drop kick but Gordon kicks out. Caristico gets in there against Sanson but it quickly divulges into a brawl. Gordon hits a walk up senton dive to the outside and then Finlay hits a dive leaving Caristico and Sanson in the ring. Caristico hits his flying head scissors into a Fujiwara arm bar for the win. Third Fall: Caristico submits Sanson with a Fujiwara arm bar.
Gordon goes to announce table and tries his best to understand and speak Spanish. He says he wants more time in Mexico. He says it in spanish correctly and says it over and over. Luckily there’s someone there to translate and then he speaks in English. He politics to come back and says it’s a great company and country to be in. I agree Flip should be back, he got over very nicely.
Winners: Caristico, Flip Gordon, and David Finlay
