New NWA National Heavyweight Title Is Unveiled

Coming up this Sunday at the Nashville Fairgrounds, also known as the TNA Asylum, the National Wrestling Alliance will present its 70th Anniversary show that also will air live on FITE.

Among the big matches for Sunday’s card will be a tournament to crown a brand new NWA National Heavyweight Champion, as the title is being reprised. The previous incarnation of the NWA National Heavyweight Title began with its inaugural champion Austin Idol in 1980 and was deactivated in 1986. The championship would be revived in 1997 until last September when the promotion terminated the contracts with all of its licensees.

The title now has a new lease on life however, as Jay Bradley, Ricky Starks, Mike Parrow and Willie Mack battle in one Fatal 4-Way at NWA’s 70th. In another, Colt Cabana will meet Scorpio Sky, Sam Shaw and Sammy Guevara, then winners of both Fatal 4-Ways square-off later in the show to crown the next NWA National Heavyweight Champion.
