Possible Reason For Changes To Set & Crowd Lighting Last Night At Evolution
With a lot happening on television last night, those that chose to tune into WWE’s Evolution noticed a change in the arena set-up from the usual television or pay-per-view events.
The lighting of the crowd during matches or lack thereof, as well as a new stage design without a ramp were just a couple of the talking points coming out of WWE’s first all-women’s event. There was a lot of talk on social media during the broadcast that perhaps the new set-up was a peek at the new look for Live Events, as previously discussed on the WWE Third Quarter Financials Results conference call recently (see that here). However, there could be another reason.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider has offered an explanation for the changes last night, nothing that because there was also a Supershow last night in Asheville and then tonight’s RAW in Charlotte, North Carolina, there had to be some of the production crew there to start getting ready. This would include the stage, usual lighting and the production trucks. On top of that, with Crown Jewel coming up on Friday a number of production crew started making the trip to Saudi Arabia this past Thursday to prepare. Therefore, the Evolution crew was working with less last night and then had to head out to Charlotte for RAW.
EA’s Take: I think the fan speculation and Mike Johnson could both be right here. The explanation about the production team being split up in different parts of the globe is certainly an infallible one. At the same time though, Vince did just say in the past week they were working on new things to help with Live Events, so it also makes sense. I thought the set-up was a welcome surprise and absolutely had a Live Event feel to it. If this happens to be the stage they go to for Live Events moving forward, it needs to be just a step towards fixing them because that alone won’t draw people in.
