Why Johnny Why?

After weeks of rumours and speculation the person who attacked Aleister Black has finally been revealed: it’s Johnny Gargano.

Well he didn’t say he did it but Black stormed to the ring yelling “where is he?” in reference to his attacker when Gargano hit him with a superkick. Gargano picked up the mic and said “I’m right here”. He didn’t need to say much because everyone immediately knew. A very attitude era end to the show.

Obviously the biggest thing that happened on NXT this week. Now we’ve got the initial shock out of the way lets move to what’s more important: WHY?

Obviously when Black was attacked Gargano was one of the main suspects given the timing of the attack. It being so close to a triple threat to between Black, Gargano and Ciampa for the title in Brooklyn. Also he just happened to be walking past Regal around the time Black was found. Maybe because it seemed so obvious that myself and many other fans didn’t believe it. Gargano is also such a great babyface that the idea of it being him seemed to hard to believe. Unlike most people who were questioned if you remember Gargano never actually said he did or didn’t do it.

The only motivation I can think of for Gargano doing this was his obsession with taking out Ciampa drove him to attack Black. However that motivation only really makes sense for this program however long that lasts but where does Gargano go after this.

This is as good of heel turn as you can get but what is his motivation for staying heel after this. The fans already seemed to begin to turn on him before this reveal and will likely continue to boo after this feud.

Something that’s interesting about this turn was the reaction of Ciampa to this turn. Sending out a tweet saying

Immediate flashbacks to when Zayn turned heel and rejoined Kevin Owens when I saw that tweet. Gargano has fully become what he hates and almost corrupted by Ciampa. I’ll be honest I’d would be so into a heel DIY running rough shot over WWE. Don’t tell me at least part of you wants that too.

I think Gargano would be very much like the Zayn turn in that he’ll play a better heel than anyone could expect. He has played heel before but a lot of people haven’t seen that.

All signs point to Gargano vs Black at NXT Takeover War Games 2 and possibly the next Takeover depending on how long they want this to go for. It’s definitely a shock to see Gargano as a heel but I’m not going to be negative as it’s still very early to tell how it will go. I am interested to see how it will affect his on screen relationship with his wife Candice LeRae.
