WWE News: Details On Bobby Lashley’s Heel Turn, When The Decision Was Made

As was noted this morning, the angle this past Monday on RAW that saw Bobby Lashley turn heel and “injure” Kevin Owens was done to write ‘The Prize Fighter’ off of television, as he is in need of knee surgery (for the latest on that go here).

Aside from Owens’ impending knee surgery, the other story from the match was the heel turn for Lashley, who has been receiving more negative reactions since the addition of Lio Rush as his mouthpiece. According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the decision to pull the trigger on Lashley’s heel turn didn’t come until that day after a lot of discussion on whether the company should keep him as a babyface.

Reportedly, losing Owens for what could be many months played a big role in choosing to flip Lashley as soon as possible, now that RAW will be losing another one of its top heels. Additionally, it’s being said that since Owens needed to be taken off of television, having Lashley be the man to “put Owens on the shelf” helped make the decision.

Also of note, many fans found Lio Rush getting under their skin with his ongoing commentary during the match on Monday. However, the words were apparently not his own as it’s been added that Rush was taking his lines via an earpiece. Of course of the other end of that earpiece was none other than WWE Chairman Vince McMahon himself.
