WWE News: Massive Drop For SmackDown Live Rating, Back To 1st In Top 5 (10/23/18)
Last week’s edition of SmackDown Live was the big 1000th episode of the blue brand, bringing in a massive ratings increase from the week prior of 19.2%.
With all the returns and special appearances last week, sure this week’s SmackDown Live rating could only go down, right? The numbers for last night’s episode are in and indeed, that’s right. Last night’s SmackDown Live came in with a 2.087, a decrease from last week of 17.99%. Here’s a look at the last four weeks of the blue brand’s ratings:
- October 2nd: 2.095
- October 9th: 2.135
- October 16th: 2.545
- October 23rd: 2.087
Oddly enough, last week’s SmackDown 1000 only ranked fifth in the Cable Top 150 Rankings for the 18-49 demographic. This week, with the NBA’s opening night passed and MLB’s World Series on network television, SmackDown Live once again is back at the number one spot. Check out the top five:
- SmackDown Live – USA Network – 0.69
- Below Deck – BRAVO – 0.51
- *TIE* The Challenge: Final Reckoning/Mayans MC – 0.48
- The Haves & Have Nots – Oprah – 0.33
EA’s Take: There was never any chance that SmackDown Live’s rating wasn’t going to decrease after last week’s loaded show. It’s a weird case this week though, as the rating drops tremendously, yet the show rises from fifth to first in the Cable Top 150. Not only that, but their share of the 18-49 demographic dropped by 0.23 all at the same time. It just happened to be the perfect storm this week, as last week’s show was up against the kickoff of the NBA’s regular season and the MLB Postseason. I don’t worry too much about the ratings, but that drop in the demographic is disconcerting. Hopefully most of it is due to people tuning into the World Series.
