WWE News: SmackDown Live Rating Drops Again, Falls To 2nd In Top 5 (10/2/18)
To say that both SmackDown Live and Monday Night RAW have seen some rough television ratings is probably an understatement, especially when it comes to the red brand. While SmackDown Live was able to increase viewership two weeks ago, last week the number came back down. Would the same hold true for this past Tuesday?
The numbers are in and this week’s episode of the blue brand saw another drop in the ratings to a 2.095, down 4.46%. Here’s a look at the last four week’s of ratings for SmackDown Live:
- September 11th: 2.229
- September 18th: 2.281
- September 25th: 2.193
- October 2nd: 2.095
Last week, SmackDown Live was able to reclaim its spot at the number one in the Cable Top 150 Rankings for the 18-49 demographic, finally taking down the new series Mayans MC. Unfortunately, that was not the case this week although it was not Mayans MC that dethroned the blue brand:
- MLB Wild Card – ESPN – 2.09
- SmackDown Live – USA Network – 0.69
- SportsCenter (12AM Hour) – ESPN – 0.58
- Mayans MC – FX – 0.55
- Below Deck – Bravo – 0.46
EA’s Take: The tough times continue on television as the weeks-long rough patch continues. It’s just the nature of the beast and a sign of the times when it comes to the ratings, although a lot of people who like to point to them as proof that WWE’s product is poor don’t realize just how many millions of people use other means to watch. The important part is the share of the demographic, which remains strong for WWE programming. Had the MLB Playoffs not been on, despite the drop in popularity for the game over recent years, SmackDown Live likely would have maintained their usual 18-49 number.
