WWE Said To Be ‘Frantically Scouting’ For A New Crown Jewel Location

All day today we have been following along with the latest regarding WWE’s scheduled Crown Jewel event next Friday at King Saud Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

There have been numerous reports regarding WWE Superstars Daniel Bryan and more specifically, John Cena, both refusing to go to Saudi Arabia with all of the recent events that have occurred surrounding the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Earlier in the day, it was reported that it’s even gone as far as the WWE creative team being told to replace Cena (read more about that here), however we later saw him still advertised for the World Cup tournament. Additionally, it was noted that the event was again in jeopardy.

Following up on all that, Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports who initially broke that story (as well as the story of an issue with Roman Reigns) has now tweeted out that the company is “frantically scouting” a new location for the event:

UPDATE: WWE is currently in the process of frantically scouting locations to move Crown Jewel to. This is NOT definite confirmation that it's out of Saudi Arabia, but the location and date are unquestionably in major jeopardy right now.

On top of this, Bryan Alvarez had reported earlier today on Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told a decision on moving the location of Crown Jewel could come as soon as Wednesday, which explains why tickets for the show have still not gone on sale with just over a week to go.

EA’s Take: A lot of this is really starting to line up and make sense now, but it’s still a large undertaking for WWE to move an event of any magnitude, let alone this, with such a small window. I would imagine they’re looking at places in the United Kingdom since they’re heading there the rest of that weekend. The issue is of course securing a venue though and how big they still want the show to be. I don’t think WWE is looking to move from a 25,000 seat stadium to anything under 10,000, but this will likely be a case of having to take whatever they can get.
