NJPW News: Hiromu Takahashi’s In-Ring Career Possibly Over
The in-ring career of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Hiromu Takahashi may be finished!
It’s been quite some time since we’ve gotten any updates on the current condition of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Hiromu Takahashi, the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion who was forced to relinquish his title after suffering a broken neck at the G1 Special in San Francisco this past July.
After he was spiked on the top of his head during his title defense that night against Dragon Lee, Takahashi was able to finish the match, but was in need of neck surgery with the last word on a possible return being a timetable of 9-12 months (check that story out here). However, there appears to still be the chance that Hiromu’s in-ring career is over and according to a new report, things don’t seem to be trending in the right direction.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that New Japan Pro Wrestling is still unsure whether or not Takahashi will be able to resume competing inside the squared circle. There is also no longer any timetable for a return being given.
EA’s Take: Well, unless Meltzer’s being worked here (which I don’t think that’s the case), this is not good news. I think on the chance that he can come back, it will probably be longer than that 9-12 month timetable as well considering he was laid up in a hospital bed for a whole month. Now, you add in that we’re roughly at what should be the halfway point in his recovery and New Japan is unsure? I would imagine by this point in the timetable you should have an idea on which way its leaning. So for NJPW to not be sure tells me it’s leaning in the direction of him being done for good.
