Former WWE Superstar Opens Up About Racism During His Tenure

Ahmed Johnson talks dealing with racism during his WWE career!

When it comes to WWE history, there’s no shortage of Superstars who were pegged to become main event level talents that for one reason or another never seemed to work out.

One such case that fans from the late-90’s will remember is Ahmed Johnson, a former Intercontinental Champion who seemed destined to become WWE Champion. While there have been many reasons stated as to why the powerhouse with the Pearl River Plunge never got as far as expected, from lack of motivation to being injury-prone and everything else in between.

Recently, Ahmed Johnson appeared on Robbie E. and Matt Koon’s Why It Ended podcast and had some pretty interesting things to say regarding why his rise in the WWE stopped, stating that Shawn Michaels played a role:

“I do [believe it was something Shawn Michaels was saying], I do believe it was behind my back. Not only Shawn saying, but some other…racist…you know, boys were saying. I really do.”

When asked to elaborate further on why he thinks there was racism involved, Ahmed responded:

“Just kinda things I heard from some of the boys…about you know, what Shawn was saying about handing over the [Intercontinental] belt, you know, to an African-American and this, that and the other. Then, when I won the belt (inaudible), when I won the belt somebody scratched ‘Congratulations Ni****’ on my car…on my rent-a-car. [Really?] Somebody…yeah, on my rent-a-car and then you got people that was saying it was Shawn, some said it was Steve [Austin]. I don’t know which one it was, but they was too cowardly to stand up to it.”
