Pat McAfee has signed on with WWE!

For fans of WWE NXT, you may have noticed a new addition on a handful of occasions to NXT TakeOver Kickoff Panels with former NFL player Pat McAfee taking part at TakeOver: New Orleans, Chicago II, Brooklyn 4 and most recently, War Games.

The former Pro Bowl and All-Pro punter for the Indianapolis Colts has also notably been announced to call his first NFL game coming up on December 30th for FOX Sports when the Detroit Lions play the Green Bay Packers. Of course, this is interesting considering some news regarding McAfee’s work with the WWE today.

According to multiple outlets, McAfee has officially signed a deal with the WWE to continue his Pre-Show Panel appearances, as well as to film some digital content for the company. Of course, fans have already drawn a line between McAfee’s WWE deal and his FOX Sports gig with SmackDown Live moving to FOX in October. However, at this time any word on McAfee’s possible involvement with SmackDown Live is just speculation right now.

EA’s Take: I think it’s fair to speculate that maybe McAfee winds up being involved when SmackDown Live goes to FOX. We’ve already heard that the network wants the program to be more sports-oriented and with less comedy. Here’s the thing for me with McAfee though…he’s more comedy if you watch him on the TakeOver Pre-Shows. He’s very over the top, boisterous and just plain loud. So even though he used to play in the NFL, does he really fit what FOX is looking for? I’m not so sure.
