WWE News: SmackDown Women’s Title Match Not Official For Royal Rumble

WWE issues a correction on a match announced for Royal Rumble!

Earlier today, it was noted that on this week’s episode of WWE’s Main Event on Hulu Plus it was announced that SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka would be defending her title against Becky Lynch at Royal Rumble on January 27th (see the story here).

However, the match was never mentioned on any of WWE’s social media or website, leaving some doubt as to whether the announcement was a mistake or not. Now, it looks like either that was the case or the company has decided to change directions as former SmackDown General Manager Paige tweeted out the following in regards to the match:

Soooo I tried to make one last match before my time as #SDLive GM came to end…but unfortunately @BeckyLynchWWE vs. @WWEAsuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship is NOT official for #RoyalRumble. #Oops
