Could WWE Turn A Weakness Into A Strength In 2019?

In 2018, something often highlighted in a negative light in WWE was the over-saturation of its main roster. There have been many solutions to this problem including sending some stars back down to NXT or simply cutting down the roster through contract nullification. But to start the New Year, “The Authority” has declared one thing, something new. Which now brings up the argument, could the over-saturation of the roster actually be a blessing in disguise?

The first thing we know is that there is going to be an influx of superstars coming up from NXT. This group includes Lars Sullivan, Lacey Evans, Nikki Cross, tag team Heavy Machinery, And EC3. NXT has been known to develop and send up incredible talent over the years, so anytime a call-up occurs, it tends to be a big deal and this class is no exception. Each player will add their own flavor to the main roster and be an interesting addition to the “New Year, New WWE”.

WWE has also begun its “New Year, New Me” style of booking by giving midcard title shots to Tyler Breeze and Apollo Crews. Before these two matches against Dean Ambrose, these two superstars had basically been lost in the shuffle. Another young man getting a main roster shot has been Mustafa Ali, who has appeared on Smackdown Live a few weeks in a row working with the likes of Daniel Bryan. Even Rusev has re-emerged in this new era, gaining the United States Championship over Shinsuke Nakamura after being arguably one of the most over characters over the past year with his patented “Happy Rusev Day” gimmick.

So now the question now poses itself: Is the roster’s over saturation a blessing in disguise in this era of new beginnings for the WWE? Will management continue this trend? And if so, for how long? We can only wait and see what the new era of WWE will bring.
