IMPACT News: Company Was Close To Deal With Kenny Omega

There has been much speculation where Kenny Omega will land once his NJPW deal runs out next month, and most signs point to him signing with AEW. However we know that WWE and NJPW have/had made strong pushes for Omega’s services.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that IMPACT was close to signing both Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho. Jericho, as you may already know, revealed on his podcast last week that IMPACT made him a great offer. (Read that story HERE)

Meltzer stated that if signed, Omega would split time by working 30 dates per year for IMPACT, while leaving the rest of his schedule open for NJPW dates. Jericho would also continue to work for NJPW and have creative control.

Jason’s Take:
I take things that Meltzer says with a grain of salt, but I think he is right on this time. However, I have to wonder if the move to Pursuit, instead of a major network, did not hurt the chances for IMPACT to sign both stars. While a company could offer the world in terms of money, without proper distribution for their product, would it even matter? On the flip side, signing Omega and Jericho would have changed the landscape for IMPACT.
