John Cena/Samoa Joe No Longer Happening At WrestleMania?

WrestleMania matches are being finalized left and right with the conclusion of Fastlane. If you have been following the news shuffle the past few days, I commented on the rumored John Cena vs Samoa Joe WrestleMania match up. According to Dave Meltzer and the latest addition of Wrestling Observer Radio, the match is not planned for the card.

Jason’s Take

I am hoping this match still happens as both have wanted to face each other for awhile and the history is there to make for a great match.

Current WrestleMania Card

With the above in mind, WrestleMania has currently 3 known matches including:

WWE Universal Championship
Brock Lesnar (Champion) vs. Seth Rollins

WWE Raw Women’s Championship – Triple Threat Match
Ronda Rousey (Champion) vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Buddy Murphy vs. TBD (Winner of cruiser weight tournament)

While not yet announced, the following are anticipated matches based of more recent storylines

WWE Championship
Daniel Bryan (Champion) vs. Kofi Kingston

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
Sasha Banks and Bayley (Champions) vs. Natalya & Beth Phoenix vs. Tamina & Nia Jax

Batista vs. Triple H

Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles

Shane McMahon vs. The Miz

Jason’s Take

A very stacked card so far. It will be interesting to see if Undertaker or John Cena are involved in any fashion.

Harlem Heat A Part Of The Hall Of Fame

It was announced today that Harlem Heat will be the latest induction revealed for the WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2019. Booker T will be joining some elite company being in the Hall Of Fame as both a singles wrestler (inducted in 2013) and as part of Harlem Heat. Ric Flair is currently the only wrestler in the Hall of Fame twice. Shawn Michaels will also been inducted twice with this years induction of D-Generation X.

Jason’s Take

Booker T had a great run as both a singles and tag team competitor. Many fans haven’t liked the choice of inductees this year, but I can’t see how anyone has a problem with this one.

Latest On Dean Ambrose

Many have speculated with WWE driving home the fact that Dean Ambrose is leaving after WrestleMania that it may be a work. However, Dave Meltzer said on the latest addition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Ambrose still plans to leave the company and that it is not a work

Jason’s Take

Who knows what Ambrose truly has planned. There is still a lot of time left between now and April for Ambrose to reconsider. If he does leave WWE, I don’t expect him to sign anywhere else, and wouldn’t be suprosed to see a return to WWE at some point. Royal Rumble 2020 perhaps ?

WWE Announce 3 New Signings

WWE has announced 3 additions to the company.  They are MLW’s Stokely Hathaway, Cal Bloom (who happens to be the son of former WWF/AWA star Wayne Bloom), and Robbie Strauss. Strauss would be Robbie from TNA/IMPACT.

Mitchell’s AEW Continental Classic Update! (11/27/23)

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
