Last Hurrah For Aleister Black & Ricochet

Aleister Black and Ricochet prepare for one last stand in WWE NXT, and it’s going to be interesting to see what comes next.

The finals of the 2019 Dusty classic took place in the main event of this week’s NXT. It saw the seemingly random pairing of Ricochet & Aleister Black defeat the Forgotten Sons to earn a NXT Tag Team Title shot at Takeover New York. Forgotten Sons try their best to utilise the man advantage with Jaxson Ryker on the outside. However he would interfere once too many causing the ref to kick him out. Once the odds were even Ricochet & Black easily pick up the win.

The win was treated as a big deal with confetti raining from the ceiling before the War Raiders come down to confront their new challengers. These two have been appearing more & more as a team on the main roster as well as in NXT. With it looking like their call up is imminent will Takeover be the last hurrah for both of them?

While Ciampa & Gargano only appeared one week on the main roster Black & Ricochet have been appearing more regularly. Even getting a Raw Tag Team Championship shot at Fastlane. There’s also been rumours of them getting another tag title shot at Mania. If they are going up then it makes sense why they would win the tournament despite not teaming as long as some of the other participants. They’ve jelled in their short time together so it will still be a good match & it’s a big statement for the War Raiders to retain over two of NXT’s top stars. One being a former NXT Champion.

I can see War Raiders giving them their moment in the ring to say goodbye after the match as the crowd chant thank you. It also frees up teams like The Forgotten Sons & The Street Profits to get their shot in the coming months. I see War Raiders holding onto the titles for a while so they’re going to need fresh challengers.

I think once they get called up as fun as they’ve been as a team they should be separated. Almost like a soft reboot for both of them. At the moment they’re portrayed as guys who are only a team because they were in NXT together. Perhaps having them on separate brands gives them the chance to better get over their individual characters to a new audience. We can being to delve further into the dark mysteriousness of Black.
