7 Days of ‘Mania: The Drew McIntyre-Roman Reigns Tug-O-War

David Levin brings us yet another biting topic for WrestleMania 35. Which way does the Roman and McIntyre match break?

I think it’s safe to say that I am huge fan of both Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre. It’s hard to look at both WWE superstars and not think future champion. Right now, both men are on the outside looking in on what happens between Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins with the Universal Title on the line.

This is one of the harder matches to predict at WrestleMania 35 as both superstars need a victory to continue a tidal wave of momentum that comes with this match. Two gladiators who would do well in the old NWA or AWA may have a match we talk about for the next eight months a beyond.

I’m draw this match for several reasons. One, is the continued story of Reigns and his battle with Leukemia. The other is McIntyre and how he is a man without a title and superstar who is locked in purgatory until the company decides it’s the right time for him to claim singles gold. This has a feel of Barry Windham and Lex Luger, with better self-promotion.

What’s WWE to do with them once Monday night rolls around? Who jumps into the Universal Title picture and how will the Brock Lesnar effect be handled should he once again retain his strap and slither into hibernation?

I have said this before, there are times when belts mean nothing and the moment means everything. This is one of those examples. WWE wants fans to get behind the storyline, not necessarily the title at stake unless you are Kofi Kingston or Becky Lynch.

Does WWE once again give Reigns a chance to carry the banner of the Monday night brand? Will Vince McMahon finally give McIntyre the chance to prove how good he can be as the lead dog? Reigns winning continues a feel-good storyline. McIntrye winning makes more sense.

While everyone is fixated on Kofi and Becky, I’m waiting on this match with much anticipation. If it lives up to potential hype, then WWE has a great feud that becomes evergreen. If it doesn’t meet expectations, it does not matter. Someone’s coming out of this match with a chance to win a world title. The other still remains in the hunt out of necessity.
