Sarpraicone: Ben-K, The Star That Dragon Gate Needs

Dragon Gate is coming off it’s biggest show of the year! Finally, they decided to push one of their shining young guns!

Crazy week for wrestling this week as Ben-K would defeat PAC to win the Open the Dream Gate Championship on the July 21st show called Kobe Pro-Wrestling Festival 2019. If you haven’t seen the show yet, I highly recommended as it was a great show with great matches and unforgettable moments, making it one of my favorite shows this year. I was very happy to see this win take place as it did it not only mean that PAC can go to AEW and maybe lose a couple of matches, but it also meant that Dragon Gate will be moving forward with a future star.

Dragon Gate’s problem was usually not having a defined Ace, while relying on more of an Ace by committee consisting of, Shingo Takagi, Masaaki Mochizuki, Masato Yoshino, and YAMATO. Not only was it sometimes hard to tell who was getting the main focus, but they also tended to stay with that generation regardless of any youth momentum. However, after the most recent show, this could be the opportunity to create someone for the long run. That man’s name is Ben-K.

The reason why I say Ben-K is not only  because of his age (27 years old) but, he also has shown his great wrestling ability in his three years as a professional. Beginning his training in the Dragon Gate Dojo he knows what the company looks for in a wrestler and he was able to thrive on it to be where he is now. Also aesthetically, his shogun appearance is a great look with a commanding presence.

Ben is also someone that has performed beyond peoples expectations when in high caliber matches. When he fought Masaaki Mochizuki and Masato Yoshino in previous Open the Dream Gate Championship challenges he more than held his own, giving brief moments of doubt for the champions at the time. Plus his undefeated run through King of Gate this year, solidifies his understanding of how to conduct himself in big matches.

Getting the belt on Ben-K was the easy part as it was the right time for PAC to move on and for Dragon Gate to create an actual future for the promotion. Now booking him as a champion is where the challenge is going to be since he would need to keep the same level of performance as the champion. This is the perfect opportunity to for Dragon Gate to create something new and they have the right person to test this out since Ben is already well-established for the short time he’s been wrestling. If done right, he’ll be a life long star in the company.

If you wish to see more matches of Ben-K if you’re not familiar with him, then I got some for you down below to feast your eyes on.
