Chris’ Top 5 WWE Moments For New Year’s Week

Welcome, everyone to the first week of 2020 there have been some incredible matches and intriguing storyline developments all over WWE such as the return of John Morrison, The Miz going back to the dark side, The Usos returning, and much more.

Here are my top five moments from this week in WWE.

5. The Miz headed back to the dark side?

It’s hard to believe that The Miz has been a beloved fan-favorite since February of last year and yet not found his way back to the main event title scene but he has. The A-LISTER did get close at TLC but there was no championship on the line. Unfortunately for him, he was booked terribly after turning face.

On this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Miz lost his cool, lost his match, and viciously attacked Kofi Kingston. We’ve watched superstars that have been affected by “The Fiend” such as Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and now Miz that have completely snapped. The A-LISTER plays a much better heel so I’m happy!

4. Sheamus of old is back

“The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus finally made his long-awaited return on this week’s edition of SmackDown, when he interrupted a two-on-one beatdown from The Revival to Shorty G. Seconds later, he took Gable’s head off with a THUNDEROUS Brogue Kick. Seeing Sheamus with his full beard again and Irish appearance makes me so excited!

3. Randy Orton Tricks AJ Styles

The biggest story from last weekend was that “The Viper” Randy Orton was helped to the back during a live event and it appeared he had injured his knee. The WWE Universe was concerned and on this week’s edition of Raw, he delivered a Mark Henry-esque retirement speech. Orton sold this injury claiming he may not be able to return.

So, what did “The Phenomenal One” AJ Styles do? He came down and mocked The Viper and setting himself for an RKO. Orton continued the mind games until he told his presumable WrestleMania opponent that “He’s patient, I’m not!” RKO OUTA NOWHERE!

2. NXT UK As a Whole Is Amazing!

Everything about this whole show is fantastic. There are so many rising superstars that are going to do great things in 2020 specifically: IIja Dragunov I can already see him challenging Walter for the United Kingdom Championship at an upcoming TakeOver. The only thing that the brand is missing is a mid-card title but other than that it’s one of the highlights of my week!

1. Aleister Black & Buddy Steal The Whole Week

Without question, this was the best wrestling match of the week. I cannot stress that enough. Both superstars delivered everything you’d expect from a five-star classic. From nasty-looking strikes, high-octane offense, dozens of counters, and methodical mind games.

Aleister Black and Buddy Murphy are two of the brightest stars on the rise and there are rumors of big pushes for both. Typically, the rematch doesn’t outshine the first encounter but in my opinion, I think it did! I could even go for a trifecta with a title on the line! Book it, Vince!

There you have it, folks, that’s my top five for the first week of the new year. With the Royal Rumble only two weeks away, there are going to be so many exciting storylines to pay attention to!
