Hyrule Warrior Workouts!

Hyrule Puro-Resu News Generic

Zelda, Link and Groose share their workout routines!

Ahead of the Akkala event, Hyrule Puro-Resu checks in on how their top stars are preparing! Can you keep up with these workout routines?

Impa coaches Zelda in the HPW Training Center.

The routine has only intensified for the Princess of Hyrule since the Goddess Championship news a few weeks ago. Impa has Zelda bicep wave the battle ropes for a ten count, change to lateral whips for a set of ten, then double whip for a set of ten before topping it off with a jumping whip slam. Impa then passes Zelda a medicine ball and has her head for the next station. Zelda passes the ball around her body clockwise ten times, then counter-clockwise ten times before reaching the speed ladder. She passes the ball back to Impa and starts on the linear jab step. She quickly steps in then out of each square with her right foot all the way to the end of her 10 square speed ladder, then comes back for her left foot to do the same.

Impa tosses the ball back to Zelda the moment she’s made her first lap. Zelda passes the ball back before doing another lap. Zelda does five laps with the jab step, then switches to lateral high knees. She makes sure both feet tap the same square before moving on to the next square. She goes to her left, then back the way she came to her right, and again has to catch and pass the medicine ball back to Impa before starting another lap. Zelda completes five laps this way, then does the same with In & Out steps. Impa tosses Zelda a bottle of milk and Zelda chugs it down. Perfect product placement for Lon Lon Ranch Dairy.

Impa talks with Zelda while she takes a breather. Impa warns Zelda to be wary of The Dark Forces. It’s a guarantee that they’ll be lurking around the ring and even try to get involved. Zelda knows that, but is confident they won’t be a problem. Impa doesn’t want her young protege to get ahead of herself. The moment you overlook a threat, that threat becomes even more dangerous. Just because their focus was keeping Ganondorf from the Triforce Championship doesn’t mean Cia and her faction aren’t just as dangerous. Now, back to the workout!

Impa passes the medicine ball back at Zelda and Zelda goes to the ground for a set of 10 V-Ups, then a set of 10 raised leg crunches. Zelda finishes off with some flash as she puts the ball between her knees and manages a kip up! Will Zelda’s body be forged into something strong enough to overcome the Dark Force’s Sorceress?

Groose and Link are training… in the wilderness?

The Skyloft Stud and the Hero of Hyrule are in a very different setting from the HPW TC. Rosso coaches them as they run down the dirt road. He has them lift any “small” rocks they find along the way. Of course, these rocks are still as big as their heads, but Rosso thinks of them in comparison to the literal boulders they pass by. “Oh, a green Rupee.” Groose picks that up and slips it into his pocket. Rosso then has them run headlong into trees! Both Groose and Link run at full speed and WHAM! “Oh, a blue Rupee!” Groose scoops that up and into his pocket.

They come across another rock and Link looks ready to lift, but Groose notices it sparkles. He tells Link to hit the rock repeatedly instead. Link shrugs and stomps a mudhole into the rock. The rock spits out green Rupee after green Rupee! And of course, Groose scoops them up. Rosso is a bit disappointed Groose is making a fortune instead of breaking a sweat. As they continue jogging, they come across a huge log and a big gap. The log seems thick enough to fill the gap, so Rosso has Groose and Link push the log. It’s mostly Link that gets the log rolling off the ledge. La la-lala, lala-la la. Where did that music come from? But the gap is filled and they go over the log to get to the other side.

Link and Groose swim a river then see rocks on the other side. They throw the rocks into the river then swim back the other way. They go up a hill and then jump down off a ledge to repeat. Link does five laps in the time it takes Groose to do three. Then they climb up a relatively short cliff side free solo style. Groose gets three-quarters of the way up before he tires out and slides back down. Eventually, Groose makes it to the top once, but Link’s made it up a couple more times since.

Rosso and camera crew join them by going up the long way, and the two young champions stand together to address the camera. Groose says, “Now we’re ready! Ghirahim, Igos, Ganondorf, it doesn’t matter! We’re still going to be a couple of golden boys. Ain’t that right, Link? Of course that’s right.” Groose pats Link on the back before he double guns for the photo op. Link joins in, but it’s Groose who has to face the Living Blade. Was Rosso’s regimen enough to prepare Groose for HPW Akkala?

My Thoughts:

This article came about as a bit of a whim, but I wanted to reference a lot of the little things Zelda games are known for. Smashing rocks and hitting trees are classic ways to get treasures. It’s also a bit of reference to Sheamus’ Celtic Warrior Workouts series and to Drew McIntyre’s training video on the road to WrestleMania. It works to show how Link and Groose do things compared to Zelda. Feel free to let me know about these routines I came up with on the fly.
