Mitchell’s Hyrule Puro-Resu News Report! (11/10/20)
Zelda has a father-daughter chat with the GM!
Zelda visits HPW Headquarters!
It seems there’s more stirred up by the Hebra event news than just Ghirahim’s temper! What will Zelda say to her father, the HPW General Manager?
The Princess of Hyrule knocks on King Nicolas’ door.
He says, “Come in,” clearly not knowing who is visiting. Zelda walks in and Nicolas is happily surprised. He gets up and hugs her. If she was going to visit, she could’ve called to let him know. How is she doing? She’s fine. But this isn’t just a friendly visit as his daughter. There’s some business she wants to discuss first. Oh, well, alright. What does she want to talk about?
Well, it should be obvious, this is about the Hebra event. Why is she in another contender’s match? What does she mean? She doesn’t understand why, after losing to Ganondorf, she’s immediately back in a Goddess Championship contender’s match. It’s because Midna chose her to be. Is that really all there is to it? Was it really just Midna’s choice? Or was she encouraged by “management,” aka him? Does Zelda really think Midna would listen to anyone on this? He assures her that the four choices were all Midna’s. It’s obvious that Midna does what she wants, so there wasn’t anything he or the rest of management had to do but agree to it.
But that’s just it, isn’t it? He isn’t going to say no to her being suggested as a contender because he’s her father. This is what she’d been talking about before Clash of Fates! She wanted to be someone who wasn’t Zelda of Hyrule because people will think she’s getting her opportunities based on name alone! And yet that’s what seems to be happening time and time again! No, that’s not it at all! “You won the Bracket of Wisdom in the Triforce tournament. You won the Eventide Challenge. Sheik, Zelda, whatever name you go by, your wins are your wins. I respect you, management respects you, and obviously Midna respects you since she named you.” The only one who doesn’t seem to think Zelda is good enough is Zelda!
King Nicolas hugs his daughter again and reassures her that if she wins- No, when she wins this opportunity, it will be because she earned it. She has to accept that this really isn’t about her name, but about her as a person. Zelda nods and takes a breath. She thanks him for talking her through that. She promises not to waste this opportunity.
My Thoughts:
I’m probably laying it on pretty thick, huh? But even if it’s a predictable outcome, it has to be built properly or else it just feels worse. Instead of a negative sounding, “I knew they’d do that…” you can have a positive, “YES! I KNEW IT!” if the story surrounding it works. Of course, I’m not trying to say I’m doing the best job of it but I hope I’m not doing the worst job. I really want Zelda to have some depth because of how she’s dealing with her family legacy in conflict with her personal goals, as well as her personal mission of bringing women’s wrestling in Hyrule to a new level.
