NXT Minus 6: Prove Me Wrong

Some of the top stars in NXT have proven me wrong. One more wrestler adds their name to the list.

6. I actually enjoy being proven wrong. It means someone else is doing something right. I was ready to tell you that the best part of Ember Moon was her old theme music. Then she and Dakota Kai turn in an absolute blaster of a match, Takeover worthy on a Wednesday night, 4.5 stars. I’m still not fond of her character, but her in-ring has me excited for more. This bad Moon is rising. Ember restarts the fire. 

5. On the other hand, the next good Toni Storm match I see will be the first good Toni Storm match I see. It’s Toni’s Time to prove me wrong. Moon did it. Rhea Ripley did it. Swerve Scott did it. Damian Priest did it. Toni, show me you’re more than just a pretty face. Prove me wrong. 

4. Austin Theory and Velveteen Dream deserve each other. Dare I say they need each other. Two young guys oozing with talent who seemingly have fallen out of favor, reduced to high profile jobbers. I could see Dream Theory battling for the NXT Tag Team Titles. And disregard whoever she is. Do you know how hard it is to find a graphic for a made up tag team? 

3. Am I really supposed to believe that Pete Dunne is still angry at Roderick Strong for turning on him 2 years ago? That the Bruiserweight has been patiently waiting for the right moment to exact revenge on his former tag team partner? Because I will absolutely do that. In one crisp moment, I went from “Why is Dunne here” to “Holy Crap, this takes long term storytelling to a whole new level.” Wrestling is inherently silly, but I do love when it makes sense. And I’m also going to love when super buff, angry Dunne goes back home to get his revenge on WALTER.  

2. Remember when Aleister Black would sit in a closet waiting for people to knock on his door? Man, that sucked hard. I’m feeling that way about Thatch as Thatch Can Wrestling Clinic. I don’t see the point. Unless they are using it to cover up an injury, then let the guy actually wrestle actual wrestling matches. And now I can’t stop thinking about Thatcher versus Black. And this is what I got when I Googled “Thatch as Thatch Can,” so this is what you’re getting.

1. This week’s That’s Why I Love Wrestling goes to…Cameron Grimes!!! Two weeks in a row, he’s delivered the line of the night. Last week it was the Bar Mitzvah Triangle. This week, “Whatever happened last week was weeks ago.” And I still can’t explain the physics of his flying, twisting, cross body block powerslam. This talented goober is going to…the…moooooooon!!!
