Andrew’s Impact Wrestling Final Resolution Results & Match Ratings: 12.12.2020

Impact Wrestling’s last ImpactPlus app special is here! We have a decent sized card with Ethan Page having one more opportunity to try and get The North another tag title match and 3 singles titles matches.

Does Larry D go to jail? Does Henandez get his money back? Will TJP switch to his Manik personality? How many titles change hands tonight?

Those are the biggest questions, so let’s get to the show!

Results:

Old School Rules Match: Larry D vs Tommy Dreamer

Well no one is surprised at how this match played out. Larry started off with the early advantage utilizing different weapons and a bag filled with wood…or French fries…not really sure. But either way, the match was a typical Dreamer match until Acey Romero interfered to try and win Larry’s freedom. As it looked like XXXL were going win thanks to assistance, John E. Bravo shows up to even up the numbers.

Bravo did have a few moments where he got the best of them, but since he’s a former referee and comedy character, they can only give him so much. Larry knocks him out, goes to finish Tommy but Tommy takes the kendo stick to the groin and then hits the DDT for the victory.

Larry is put in handcuffs and will go to…jail?

Sea Stars (Delmi Exo & Ashley Vox) vs Havok & Nevaeh

Nevaeh starts for the larger power based team, and as far as the dynamic goes, Nevaeh is more of the bumper since Havok is such a monster in the division. Sea Stars have a lot of good early offense, but when Ashley turns her back to gloat, Havok tags in and Delmi does the over the shoulder cute comedy point. Ashley played up a lot of personality before getting tossed around by Havok.

Surprisingly Ashley finds a little space to rock Havok after a Fishing Line Superkick, a nice Code Breaker/Senton tandem move puts Havok in danger for the first time in the entire match. Havok does kick out at 2, and drives Delmi into the corner, Nevaeh gets the blind tag, a Wheelbarrow/Cutter combo puts the match away for Havok and Nevaeh!

Sea Stars did actually look pretty solid though.

Tenille Dashwood & Kaleb with a K vs Eddie & Alisha Edwards

Kaleb starts off with great Komedy with a K. He plays up the a very good sissy character who shakes his hands after chops and punches and looks fairly out of place. Which is great dedication to his character. Kaleb is not known for his personality, and I love how Tenille and Kaleb are doing great work in that department.

Tenille chokes Eddie a little, poses for a selfie and Eddie just shoves her off the apron, Blue Thunder Bomb gets some space and the two Knockouts get tagged in. Lish…looks awesome. Low Flatliner, whip to the corner, running lariat, Bulldog, great stuff. Low Bridges Kaleb who tries to interfere and looks like a spitfire. Kaleb has to trip Lish to give Tenille an opportunity.

After more great character work, including the great dive from Kaleb, not wrestling Dive either. Eddie was jawing with Tenille, cocked his fist and Kaleb dives to try and protect Tenille but Eddie stops and they both just watch Kaleb crash to the mat. Eddie stacks them up in the corner and hits the Machine Gun Chops on Kaleb while he was piled in the corner with Tenille.

Callihan’s lights and music hit when it seems like the Edwards were going to win, Tenille takes advantage of the distraction, drop Lish, Spotlight Kick and Tenille wins!

Kiera Hogan Guest Referee: Fallah Bahh vs Hernandez

Somebody’s Tio versus a Panda who dresses like Winnie the Pooh. Tasha’s announcing is amazing. This was such an amazing mess of a match. Hernandez and Bahh put of a decent match, but Kiera and Tasha stole the spotlight. Kiera favoring Hernandez, twerking mid count or just getting to the count late was amazing. Fallah telling her to “Stop being ratchet” was great dialogue.

Somebody’s Tio took advantage of the ratchet distraction and landed the Air Mexican Splash for the win and the money. But when Tasha checks her fanny pack, the money isn’t there. So Hernandez pulls out, something from his kneepads and looks like he’s about to cut em, but they bail and run away.

Kiera and Tasha are the best!

Eric Young w/Joe Doering vs Rhino

Eric Young did his Flair spot very early where he does the up and over in the corner, runs to the other corner and gets tossed. This allows EY to roll out, talk to Doering a little and devise a game plan. Rhino got in good offense and this was a solid back and forth. Rhino has EY in his sights for The Gore, but Doering climbs up to the apron to distract the referee.

EY has an opportunity, but Rhino fights back out of the corner, hitting a TKO for a close near fall. One ref bump later and we expect things to go easily EY, but Rhino defends against Doering, and then The Deaners run down to stop EY from using the mask. Cody screams at EY “I’m not a NOBODY!” and clocks…Jake. He lays out his cousin, stares down EY, and walks off. EY just smirks, grabs the mask, hits Rhino and the referee pulls it together enough to count to 3.

Did Cody Deaner just join EY or is he just trying to prove he’s not a joke? Por que no los dos?

Defeat Rohit Challenge of 2020: X Division Championship: Rohit Raju (c) vs Manik

Now I typed Manik in this article before the reveal, but this was a great match. Manik comes out hot with high flying moves, a nice Tornillo to the outside, and just wrestling at a dizzying pace to begin with. However, when Rohit finally found some openings, the match slowed down and we saw some great story telling.

Rohit’s an old school style heel, so his moves and his actions are deliberate for his story. He clawed at the mask, kept reiterating that he knew what TJP was up to, and you could see it torturing Rohit during the match. Rohit managed to have a great sequence where he hit the Dragon Stomp, but surprisingly only for two!

There were two near miss ref bumps. Rohit drove Manik back into the corner, but put the brakes on just in time. Then he passes Manik’s foot to the rope like he thinks his name is EVIL, hits a jumping Knee, then goes for the Tiger Knee, but Manik moves and Rohit has to pull up to not kill the referee. So Manik takes the spot to roll up Rohit high on the legs for the pinfall!

Knockouts Championship: Deonna Purrazzo (c) w/ Kimber Lee vs Rosemary w/Taya Valkyrie

Something that stuck out immediately to me was how willingly Rosemary went along with early armbar attempts from Deonna. Given what we all know of the AAA situation from a few years,  I’m impressed it all worked itself out and she worked with no hesitation.

There were mirrored moments with the seconds, when Rosemary was dumped out, so Taya backed down Kim. And then vice versa when Deonna got dumped out.  Things went well, we saw a lot of solid moves, good work and after Rosemary hits the Red Wedding, Kim pulls the referee out. This allows for the distraction of Taya going after Kim, so Deonna lands a Pump Kick into Rosemary’s chest and then Gotch Style Piledriver for the pinfall ! Deonna retains and we get a lot of insinuation that Taya is next on the docket.

Ethan Page w/Josh Alexander vs Karl Anderson

Now the little Kenny Omega moment with Karl seemed to actually get across lighting a fire in someone and not making them look dumb. Anderson comes out to prove that he’s still the singles Machine Gun, Match of the Year with Kazuchika Okada, Power Struggle great match with Shinsuke Nakamura in 2014. Can Karl regain the Bullet Club magic?

Ethan was actively frustrated with the referee and any time Karl kicked out. You could see it all over both Ethan Page’s and Josh Alexander’s faces, when a kick out happened or Karl countered the momentum, the stress was tangible. Ethan hit a nice High Round Kick, had a driving Power Slam for an early near fall, and it was just solid work. Karl however had a brief opening where he got a Diving Neckbreaker in, followed by an energized Gun Stun and Karl possibly puts the nail in The North’s coffin.

Post-match Josh takes off The North jacket, walks off and Ethan pleads with Josh through the camera. He repeats Everything’s Fine, but this looks to be the beginning of the end.

Impact World Championship: Rich Swann (c) vs Chris Bey

Bey and Swann came out swinging making this really seem like an old school Mortal Kombat mirror match. They both hit great strikes and high flying moves after one another, countered a ton of attempts with back slides, cradles or we got one great exchange of kicks that went Round Kick, Superkick and then Rich hit the Trouble in Paradise dropping Bey fast.

We saw Bey lose his cool a little when the Rock-a-Bye Bey (Fisherman Buster Hold) didn’t put the champion away. So when he took too long seething and trying to figure out what to do next, Rich counters the Art of Finesse with a handstand, then he hits that slow Thrust Kick he started using lately, but only for 2. So another Thrust Kick and Phoenix Splash later give the champion the victory!

Moose comes out after, to grab the Impact title, stand there ominously for a moment and then hand the title to Rich. Sends a visible message and I’m definitely here for Moose to finally get the main title, he’s come a long way.

Overall Score: 6.75/10

This was a solid show, but honestly it was all pretty middle of the road. Nothing was terrible, and nothing was drop dead amazing. The lowest rated matches were still entertaining and work for story line to either pay on off or keep one going. The strongest matches were at the end, which was great, but not entirely surprising. Ethan Page having his foot halfway out the door made most people figure that Ethan was losing the match, but that doesn’t stop the match from being pretty damn good. Bey proved he could hang with anyone, if there were still questions, but Moose is the real thing we care about.

To reiterate, this show was fine. Nothing swung low and nothing blew the roof off, so it’s hard to really complain when everything mostly worked.
