Andrew’s Impact Wrestling No Surrender Results & Match Ratings: 2.13.2021

Impact Wrestling gives us one of their classic PPV names as an ImpactPlus App Special! Continuing a theme of the older generation receiving a championship shot, Rich Swann offered a shot to Tommy Dreamer!

Will Tommy have a happy 50^th birthday? Does Rich fall to an upset? Does Moose get involved?

We also get to see if Private Party can abscond with the Impact titles over to AEW! Is Black Taurus just too strong of an addition to Decay for XXXL and Tenille? And lastly we have Rohit Raju, the third best heel in wrestling at the moment (behind Jay White and Randy Orton). Can he finally get the ghost of TJP gimmicks past out of his life, or does TJP have a way to retain?

Let’s find out!

Results:

Tenille Dashwood & XXXL w/Kaleb vs Decay (Rosemary, Crazzy Steve & Black Taurus

This was intergender rules where even though we didn’t see Tenille and Rosemary mix it up much with the male combatants, there was nothing really stopping them. Early on we saw Crazzy Steve trying to run Larry and Acey exhausted since they are big boys. Decay was mostly in control until Tenille introduces a red t-shirt and starts to mock Taurus as if he were a real bull. Funnily enough, Taurus does charge and chases whoever has the t-shirt for a hot minute until Larry dives out and wipes out Taurus momentarily.

We get some fun outside, it looks like Tenille was about to dive, but thinks better of it. Until, Acey just grabs her and powerbombs her to the outside on top of everyone. Acey tries to get Larry back in the ring, Rosemary green mists Acey and Taurus hits a Escalera Twisting Moonsault followed by the Rodeo Driver to pick up the win.

Solid match, just nothing flashy.

Eddie Edwards & Matt Cardona vs Brian Myers & Hernandez

Myers wants nothing to do with Cardona at first, and that plays nicely through the match. As Eddie proves his wrestling prowess, while Myers gets in some character work while also reminding anyone who hasn’t watched IMPACT that he can go a little.

Hernandez does a good job legitimizing Cardona in the perspective of the match since Cardona is a little taller than Hernandez (who ain’t small) and doesn’t go down very easy. After an early tag cut off, we finally get the Cardona/Myers hot tag moment.

Cardona gets the better of most of the exchange, Eddie and Hernandez take one another out; so Cardona goes for Radio Silence (Ruff Ryder) but Myers pops him over his head into the exposed turnbuckle from earlier. So the rocked Cardona stumbles, Myers hits Roster Cut (Charging Lariat) and they steal a victory from the babyface team.

Deaner w/Eric Young & Joe Doering vs Jake Something:

We saw Cousin Jake’s rebirth as Jake Something on the previous IMPACT. So logic led us all to assuming Jake would beat the weakest link of this team, and it never seemed to move from the obvious.

That said, Deaner did do a damn good job showing that he knew how to wrestle and could stay in tight and use logical moves without being a Larry the Cable Guy walking reference. Jake got tripped up by outside interference but finally was able to wipe out both EY and Doering with a big Suicide Dive.

Jake comes back in, lands the Blackhole Slam and picks up the pinfall! Almost right after the 3 was counted, EY and Doering are on top of him, EY introduces a table and Doering Avalanche Powerbombs Jake through the table.

Triple Threat Revolver Match: Trey Miguel vs Ace Austin vs Willie Mack vs Blake Christian vs Suicide vs Chris Bey vs Josh Alexander vs Daivari

So to describe this, it’s a Triple Threat gauntlet match. Suicide, Blake and Trey start the match, as soon as someone is eliminated, a replacement comes out gauntlet style. Tons of fun X Division action, until Suicide gets caught in Trey’s new Hourglass submission for the first elimination; Chris Bey is next out. Blake has a great moment where he catches both stomping opponents, kips up, Double Frakensteiners and starts feeling the momentum. Blake takes out Trey, hits him with a Running Spanish Fly on the outside to keep Trey out of the match a while. Springboard 450, but Bey gets the knees up, VerteBEYker, and Blake Christian is eliminated. Daivari goes out next, has a brief moment of advantage, but since he thinks Trey isn’t up yet, he gets cocky and gets caught with the Meteora from the top rope. Daivari is eliminated, Josh Alexander is next up.

Alexander changes the tone of the match once he gets in. Trey and Bey try to gang up on the power guy, but they fail. Trey jumps on his back for a bad Rear Naked Choke, Josh grabs Bey for a Vertical Suplex and falls backward taking both out. Bey counters the Jay Driller, but Josh catches him during the Art of Finesse into the Torture Rack. Goes full release spin cycle, stomps on Bey’s leg after he lands, locks in an Ankle Lock with a grapevine and Bey taps out. Willie Mack is next, meaning Ace Austin is in the catbird seat so to speak. Willie gets decent offense in, hits his standing Moonsault on both, but when he has Josh Alexander up for a slam, Trey catches him with a Meteora, and the two of them pin Willie to make sure he’s eliminated.

Ace tries to take both of his opponents out quick, but that backfires fast, since they both have issues with him. So they take turns beating on Ace, but they start throwing the other out of the way. So Ace went from getting smothered, to having an opening since the others started fighting. Trey tries to keep Josh on the outside, so Ace and Trey keep fighting in a solid back and forth, that Trey starts to get the best of.

Josh slides back in, Double Fireman’s Carry Slam, that Trey turns into more of an Avalanche Piledriver on Ace, but Josh makes sure to lay out Trey. Ace tries to fight off Josh, Fulton tries to get involved, but the Canadian Walking Weapon won’t be stopped. Jay Driller equals Josh is new number on contender.

Texas Tornado NO DQ Knockouts Tag Team Title Match: Fire N Flava (c) vs Havok & Nevaeh

With the tornado aspect, there were definitely a few clunky spots. But Kiera and Tasha actually looked better in this match than in their title win. The fact they could be a little more playful, emotive and vocal with the weapons seemed to have helped their style.

Havok got screwed by the chair she placed in the corner, so Nevaeh grabs a handicap sign and Striker even says how the sign is appropriate given the current dynamic. So that was funny, Nevaeh put up a solid effort, but Tasha knocks the sign out of her hands and hits her Okurrr on the sign, and our favorite mouthy little team holds on to the Knockouts tags!

X-Division Championship: TJP (c) vs Rohit Raju w/Shera

Rohit took it to TJP early, honestly a little too early. He dove out before TJP came into the ring, and they brawled for a while, and Brian Hebner kept imploring them to get into the ring. After some solid outside the ring work, Rohit did a damn good job.

Rohit had a wonderful counter wrestling strategy. TJP went for a Tornado DDT, Rohit countered it into a Northern Lights. TJP tried his 3 Amgos homage, and Rohit turned them into his own homage with a Perfect Plex for a two count.

Almost everything TJP threw, Rohit had an answer for. The story was gorgeous with how much Rohit knew TJP’s playbook and how well he could counter it. The rub was, when Shera tried to restrain TJP behind the referee’s back, TJP got away and malfunction at the junction. That gave TJP the chance to drop Rohit with a Detonation Kick and then Mamba Splash.

So Rohit alone could’ve possibly won, but the insurance policy he introduced, ended up backfiring.

Susan, Deonna Purrazzo & Kimber Lee vs ODB, Jordynne Grace & Jazz

This was entertaining. Jordynne got focused by Deonna’s group, which makes sense to try and weaken the assumed eventual challenger for the Knockouts title. ODB got involved with Susan and there was good comedy there. Especially when ODB ripped off Susan’s sleeves, which she acted like someone stripped her whole shirt off at first.

Dirty Dozen from ODB, Jazz got tagged in and then things broke down a bit. Bodies flying everywhere, Susan pokes Jazz in the eye which causes Jazz to clock Jordynne. Kimber Swanton’s into the bodies on the outside, but Jazz can tell when Susan is trying to do, counters it into her STF and gets Susan to tap out.

Maybe we get more between Jazz and Jordynne in coming weeks to build off the errant punch.

.@MATTHARDYBRAND and Private Party plan to win the IMPACT World Tag Team Titles and never return to IMPACT again. #NoSurrender @IsiahKassidy @Marq_Quen pic.twitter.com/l4NYVxcwCb

Impact World Tag Team Championship: Private Party w/ Matt Hardy vs Beer Guns vs The Good Brothers (c)

Private Party did most of the work in this match, one member of the team was almost always legal in the match. Marq Quen led off against James Storm, it was a nice clash of styles with Storm pulling early veteran savvy acting like he’s gonna feed out of the corner, Quen goes for a Dropkick, but Storm puts on the brakes and watches the youngster crash.

Sabin tries to talk some sense into them that Matt Hardy is poison, but they pretend to acquiesce just to bait Sabin into offense. Good Brothers pick and choose their spots, basically just allowing their opponents to do most of the lifting, as is perfect for their personas. Hell Gallows tries to introduce a chair, the referee stops it, Matt Hardy gets into the ring to hit a Twist of Fate on James Storm.

It looks like Private Party will win, but when Quen goes to the top rope for his Shooting Star, Anderson taps his foot, the referee calls it a tag, so the Bullet Club member takes the opportunistic moment to dump out Quen after the move is hit and run out giggling as they retain doing very little work.

Impact World Heavyweight Championship: Rich Swann (c) vs Tommy Dreamer

Dreamer starts off with actually following Rich with some mat wrestling, some lucha style hand lock overhead recovery spots, just generally pulling off a few moves we haven’t seen him try in a while. Where he usually backs off from apron moves, he missed a Lariat from the Apron, but hits a Spicoli Driver to the floor. This is where the match gets a little odd.

Brian Hebner throws up the X since it looks like Dreamer dislocated his pinky, the doctor comes out, Dreamer pulls the “this is probably my last shot, I can’t go down like this” moment and set the pinky himself.

The match visually gets sloppy at times, but you can also chalk it up to Dreamer just trying whatever he can to stay on top of the younger wrestler and shock the world. Rich tries to do his own impression of “I’m Sorry I Love You” but Dreamer catches the foot and makes him pay. Rich’s feet are what really kept him a step above in the match since a nice Back Kick to counter an Apron Powerbomb, and the Hesitation Thrust Kick landed flush on Dreamer’s face.

We get a bit of a locomotion cradle spot with both men trying to get one over, but Rich over rotates and then tries to lock in a Rings of Saturn. Dreamer gets out of it, tries to mount a comeback but gets dropped by Rich’s feet again. A Phoenix Splash later, and Swann retains.

Before any words can be said or feelings really let out, Moose charges the ring looking like a million bucks stacked out in change. He destroys Swann, focusing the bad ankle and Lights Out on Dreamer for good measure. Moose poses with both the TNA and Impact titles as we fade to a video package.

OH WAIT…David Finlay and Juice Robinson are coming to Impact Wrestling? So does New Japan realize their Strong show sucks and just need to be friends with everyone now? Oh…too soon? Well at least it keeps the tag division fresh but neither Finlay nor Juice will pop a rating.

Overall Score: 7.5/10

I feel like this show did a good job getting us to where we needed to be, while sprinkling in some legit matches to make my Top 5 interesting this week!

FinJuice being a good excuse to take the titles from the Good Brothers and “chase them back to Japan”could be fun. Jazz versus Jordynne should be good since Jazz is far from washed, especially if the implications are true that Taylor Wilde might be coming back to Impact soon, just allows for some fun possible matches. But we all know what the lasting image was right? No not Dreamer’s pinky…stop it.

Moose NEEDS to win the Impact title off of Swann. He’s figured it out so well over this past year. If 2020 was the year that Go Shiozaki proved himself as an ace, 2020 and so far in 2021 have been breakout for Moose. Give me Moose beating Swann, and then Moose versus Omega. Moose is the goddamn hype in Impact right now, and we all need to believe in it.
