The action from Double or Nothing Weekend has a Dark ending!

Does Jungle Boy ever stop? He won the Casino Battle Royale to challenge for the AEW world title, but he was on Elevation and now he’s on Dark classic! Will JB build momentum like no one before him as he heads for the Best Bout Machine?

MY THOUGHTS

Only 54 minutes? Now this is a Dark I can get behind! Gunn Club’s Billy and Colten starting with The Wingmen’s Nemeth & Bononi was good. Having the Jacksonville Jaguar cheerleaders was a nice touch since the Gunns are using the Jaguar’s colors in their gear. And I guess AEW has made the decision to call the faction “The Wingmen” over The Pretty Picture because it’s the more confusing and therefore hilarious name. Gunn Club continues as an undefeated group within the Nightmare Family, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re in the top 5 tag teams. Gunn Club VS Young Bucks would be a pretty good match, honestly.

Statlander had a very good match against Robyn, and Robyn’s putting in some work having been on both YouTube shows this week. Statlander might need to be careful about her own piercing, that alone gave her a bloody lip. Statlander is certainly going to be top 5 in the women’s division with (as it stands right now on AEW’s site) Thunder Rosa, Tay Conti, Nyla Rose and Red Velvet. But Abadon and Leyla Hirsch are just on the outside of that, too, so Britt will probably choose to face anyone and everyone but Rosa, until she has no choice but to face Rosa at All Out. I would love if many of those contenders crashed Britt’s celebration on Dynamite to help establish the new top 5 and the build to All Out.

Though this is AEW Dark classic and not Elevation, I really like that we got some matches that were not so easy to call. The Dark Order VS the hybrid trio of Serpentico & the Hybrid2, Diamante VS Red Velvet, both matches are tricky on paper because, well, they were showdowns of midcarders. Stu, Angels & Reynolds was a fresh combination for Dark Order, they matched up very well with Serpentico, Angelico and Evans, both in style and in heights. The win was big, the promo was a lot of fun, but I feel like they didn’t make a big enough deal about Vance talking, because I don’t think I’ve heard him talk before.

Diamante VS Velvet was also very good, and given where Velvet is/was in the rankings, it works to think of it as an “on the bubble” match. AEW really should make more out of those since wins, losses and rankings are supposed to matter. Then, in another main event, Jungle Boy really is the workhorse of this company. He won the Casino Battle Royale after a considerably long time in the match, but he also had the great Elevation main event against JD Drake “last night” and tonight’s main event with the even bulkier Bear Bronson. That short video package hyping JB VS Bronson was great, and JB had a good promo to add to that.

JB’s promo was also a clever spot to advertise that JB and Christian are teaming together against Private Party, given how Elevation showed us the post PPV confrontation we saw. I’m sure Hardy will try to interfere and fail so that JB can stand tall going into the world title match. Now, Kenny Omega isn’t losing that title on television, but JB is putting in the work worthy of a champion, so maybe he can fall back to the TNT Championship. JB VS Miro would be awesome, and if JB wins, he can actually take it easy with just one awesome match a week instead of three really good matches a week. That way, the future of face AEW and perhaps wrestling as a whole can last long enough to actually be that future face.
