King: Ellsworth Wasn’t The First!

Chris King went back in history and found out a little nugget of information back in 2010 that changed the game for the first-ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match! 

I was rewatching some of the men’s Money in the Bank matches ahead of Sunday’s pay-per-view, then I saw something unexpected happen. No, I’m not talking about some crazy-ass flip or splash onto the ladder, but an outside interference that took me by surprise. Who could forget when good ole James Ellsworth climbed the top of the ladder and dropped the money in the Bank briefcase to Carmella?

What if I told you that Ellsworth wasn’t the first onscreen partner to try to win the match for their “love interest?” Well back in the 2010 men’s Money in the Bank match, it almost occurred when The Miz’s real-life wife and onscreen partner tried to do the same thing. Maryse began climbing to the top only for John Morrison to get her down. This was all a well-planned distraction that led to Miz climbing it himself.

This may come as a shock to the WWE Universe but, it’s probably because it didn’t affect the outcome of the match. Ellsworth was behind “The Princess of Staten Island” helping her creating buzz all over. Carmella was beginning to make a name for herself on SmackDown Live “The Land of Opportunity.” during the buildup for the highly anticipated first-ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

Mella truly became money when Ellsworth retrieved the briefcase and dropped it down to her. Everyone knows how this story ended with Mella cashing in and becoming one of the most annoying SmackDown Women’s Champions of all time. On this past week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Carmella unsuccessfully challenged for the women’s title. While she is not the topic of discussion for Sunday’s event, who do you think will be the next miss Money in the Bank?
