King: The Importance of Storytelling

Chris King brings to light how crucial it is for continuity to be used in storylines in any promotion, and how it seems like many stories are coming full circle in the WWE.

There are many times where the fans are made to feel stupid and “forget” things from the past, but not this time as the “Rated-R Superstar” Edge reminded Seth Rollins that he remembers what happened back in 2014.

Ah, the good ole Authority days where the obnoxious Rollins rolled with the higher cards in his deck aka J&J Security. Who could have forgotten the night when the self-proclaimed “Future of the WWE” came so close to Curb Stomping Edge’s skull in to ensure The Authority went back into power?

John Cena was then forced into making the most difficult decision of his career either sacrifice his longtime rival who was forced into retirement whose head was about to get caved in by a Curb Stomp onto the Money in the Bank briefcase, or bring The Authority back in business?

Unfortunately, we had to endure almost two more years of the corrupt authority figures but hey we got the arrival of Sting! So I don’t feel like it was all terrible. Here we are almost seven years later, and Edge is back as an active superstar, and he looking to dethrone “The Head of the Table” Roman Reigns at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

Rollins, though, is not too happy that he had to qualify just to get into the ladder match, as he feels he should be challenging for the universal championship. On this past week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, both rivals came face to face after their incident back in 2014. Edge then told Rollins that he didn’t forget about what happened on that fateful night.

WWE is not typically great about including continuity in storylines in the past storylines, but it’s amazing to see this trend dying. It’s even happened recently when Kevin Owens obliterated his longtime friend and rival Sami Zayn on the ring apron with a multitude of Pop-up Powerbombs. Zayn exclaimed how did we get here as Owens responded “Karma,” in regards to their epic rivalry in the early days of NXT.

On Monday Night Raw currently former 3MB members Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre are going to war for the first time. Both superstars have never faced each other one on one since their paring alongside former band mate Heath Slater. Of course, Mahal is jealous of McIntyre’s success over the pandemic era.

Hopefully, continuity in storylines is something that we will begin to see more and more often as we return in front of live crowds. I am so excited to see Edge vs. Seth Rollins shortly and see where this story goes!
