Andrew’s Impact Wrestling Results & Match Ratings: 8.12.2021

So I missed last week mainly because I was a little irked as the 2/3 day notice that Twitch wasn’t going to be carrying the simulcast because of some weird premium subscription. It’s only 99 cents a month, so I suppose there’s worse things to spend 12 dollars on a year.

No matter how you look at it, last week and this week were similar enough with setting the stages for multiple different big events. Tonight we maybe get a little justice for Taylor Wilde since she finally gets her hands on Tenille. But the main event is a 20 Man Battle Royal for Number One Contender for the World Title.

That means at least the end of the show will be important to storylines. Let’s see how the rest of the show looks!

Results:

Tenille Dashwood w/Kaleb vs Taylor Wilde

The match starts off with Taylor wrestling Tenille in circles. Quick switches and a big arm drag sends Tenille into the corner. She tries to regain her sense, but Taylor continues to prove she’s a more talented mat wrestler. Even with Tenille taking the Alita awkwardly, the camera angle protects it and Kaleb’s interference finally pays off. Taylor gets distracted and then caught in a Neckbreaker in the ropes, which kind of spikes her.

After that part, we get a little awkward offense. A sloppy Lariat from Tenille that almost looked more like a Shoulder Block, but eventually the match smooths out. We see Taylor slowly get the momentum back, but Kaleb sprays the referee in the eyes and Madison Rayne hits the ring and throws Taylor into the post! Tenille hits the Spotlight Kick and wins.

After the match Tenille and Madison hug it out. Possible Beautiful People reboot with the IIconics? Maybe?

Daivari vs Josh Alexander

Alexander definitely handled most of the offense here. A little bit into the match, Jake Something postures at the top of the ramp and just watches the match. After Alexander notices, it feels like he’s trying to prove something to Jake…through Daivari.

Alexander goes for the C4 Spike early, and then gets caught for trying to end things too soon. Daivari hits a slew of offense, punctuated with a snapping DDT, but only for a 2 count. Daivari goes for a wraparound Lariat, but Alexander counters, hits the Triplicate German Suplexes, follows with the C4 Spike, and is victorious.

After the match, Jake heads to the ring, lifts the championship and makes his challenge known.

Kiera comes out to address the Fire ‘N Flava meltdown, says Tasha better come get her before she gets fed up and goes after her. But then Su Yung’s music hits, Su sends Kimber after Kiera, Kiera fights off Kimber which irritates Su. Su pulls out the glove, but apparently Kimber has a glove too and she’s up. So Kimber hits the Mandible Claw on Kiera, Kiera gets dragged out kicking and screaming.

Are they gonna kill off Kiera? I mean we all know she’s out of the company after these tapings, but can we just…like…NOT kill everyone?

BeyBlade vs FinJuice

This is a really solid tag match, which we all knew was a way to set the table for the NEVER Openweight match at Resurgence. Bey and Jay both take quite a few bumps, but also have clever ways to get the edge over “by the books” babyfaces. My favorite aspect of this match was that Juice actually came into the match like a human. He needs to stop with the over the top dorkiness and just relegate it to a few amusing moves or taunts.

Entertaining match, nothing crazy, but everyone looked solid in it. The fact that Jay broke up a pinfall with a chair for the DQ protects everyone, and also helps Jay’s heat. He Sabu’s Finlay towards the end, does the mocking cocky pin as the crowd counts to about 7 before Jay just gets across that he’s superior.

Well set up everything.

Matt Cardona vs John Skyler

They portrayed Skyler as a journeyman, and he wasn’t exactly a push over, but things definitely looked uneven. However, as Cardona was setting up the Broski Boot, Rohit and Shera walk out, cause enough distraction for Cardona to eat a Jumping Knee from Skyler, followed by bouncing off the ropes into a School Boy. Skyler gets the upset victory!

20 Man Battle Royal #1 Contender for Impact World Title

Morrissey eliminates Suicide and Johnny Swinger pretty quickly. Then Hernandez goes after Massive Cassidy and Super Mex is eliminated! All of the smaller guys try to gang up on the Massive one, but he shrugs them off. Then the bigger guys bum rush Morrissey and eliminate him next!

Petey Williams, Deaner, Rich Swann and Rhino are the next ones out. No Way Jose counters Ace Austin’s flying move with a Knockout Right Hand. But Fulton eliminates No Way, Fallah eliminates Fulton after Fulton saves Ace, Moose eliminates Fallah. Myers yeets Sam Beale into Trey Miguel and eliminates stupid ass Trey.

Moose eliminates Eddie Edwards after Eddie left a huge hand mark on Sam Beale’s chest. Beale then gets unceremoniously tossed out by Myers, but Callihan is behind him to show him the error of his ways. Myers eats a Piledriver, but then Ace Austin goes after Callihan, and Myers is left dead on the mat. Ace and Sami fight to the apron, cool spot where Fulton is back out, Freak the Mighty’s Ace Austin so his feet don’t touch, but Sami is relentless, so effectively uses Fulton to Doomsday Device Ace’s elimination. Moose then knocks Sami off, and we get Sabin and Moose scuffling. Sabin fights off eliminates and climbs on Moose’s back like a Spider Monkey. So we see Moose wearing a Sabin backpack and then Myers comes behind Moose and dumps them both out!

Brian Myers is Number One Contender!?

Overall Score: 7.25/10

Who would’ve thought in 2021 we’d have Edge back in WWE, one Edgehead is the world champion of a deathmatch company and the other is now number one contender, possibly against Edge’s former tag team partner if Christian wins on Rampage. Nice to see Edge giving back to the boys across 4 different promotions.

Aside from that, the show was pretty solid. They’re effectively prepping 4 different shows, New Japan Resurgence, AEW Rampage, their own Emergence and NWA’s Empowerrr. So this is like a go…home, extra base hit? It was definitely unique as they were setting aspects of four different shows. It helps to definitely make Impact feel more important, almost like a linchpin in all of these different shows. That’s also not mentioning that technically Kenny Omega and Deonna Purrazzo are going to be on Triplemania on Saturday. So sheesh…a lot of roads diverge and converge at Impact Wrestling.

Kinda neat, not gonna lie.
