For the first time on AEW Rampage, a women’s match opens the show as Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter take on Toni Storm and Ruby Soho!

The teams sort out and Storm starts against Hayter as a sampler of their match. They tie up, go around, break, and then stare down as fans rally up. They tie up again, Hayter headlocks but Storm powers out. Hayter runs Storm over with a shoulder, but Storm is right back up. They get in each other’s face, Hayter kicks, whips and rams Storm. Storm stays up to ram Hayter! Storm goes again, dodges and runs Hayter over! Fans fire up, Storm whips Hayter to a corner. Storm runs in to uppercut, tag to Soho. Soho whips Storm in for another uppercut, then Soho hits a forearm! Ruby facelocks but Hayter picks her up to put in the corner!

Tag to Britt, they mug and choke Ruby, then Britt ROCKS Ruby with forearms over and over! Britt whips, Ruby ducks and whips but Britt dodges to SLINGBLADE! Cover, TWO! Britt gets Ruby up for an Alabama but Ruby sunset flips, TWO! Britt superkicks but misses and Ruby rolls her up, TWO! Ruby gets around, waistlocks, but Britt switches. Ruby holds ropes, Storm tags in and Ruby elbows free. Britt runs into a DOUBLE STO! Storm drags Britt up and bumps her off buckles. Storm stomps a mudhole into Britt, then lets off as the ref counts. Storm goes corner to corner but into a BACKBREAKER and BUCKLE SHOT!

Britt stomps a mudhole into Storm and lets off to cover, TWO! Britt tags Hayter as Rampage goes picture in picture. Hayter bumps Storm off buckles, stomps her down, then digs her boot in. The ref counts, Hayter lets off, and she argues with the ref so Britt can CHOKE Storm! Hayter drags Storm up to snap suplex! Cover, TWO! Hayter drags Storm into a chinlock and grinds her down. Storm endures, fans rally, but Hayter thrashes Storm down to the mat. Storm fights her way up, throws body shots, but Hayter CLUBS her down. Hayter drags Storm up, whips her to a corner hard, and then talks trash.

Rampage returns to single picture as Hayter drags Storm back up. Hayter whips Storm back in and just as hard, then CLUBS Storm down. Hayter CLUBS Storm more, brings her back up and whips her to a corner. Ruby takes the bump for Storm and Storm gets around to SNAP GERMAN SUPLEX! Fans fire up and a standing count begins. Storm and Hayter rise at 4 and crawl towards their corners. Hot tags to Britt and Ruby! Ruby rallies on Britt and Baltimore fires up! Soho stomps, sobats and KICKS! Then she blocks a kick to KNEE back! Britt staggers to a corner, Soho DECKS Hayter then YAKUZA KICKS Britt!

Tag to Storm as Soho keeps going, but Britt dodges. Ruby elbows and DEADLY NIGHTSHADES! Storm runs in, HIP ATTACK! Storm keeps moving, but Hayter BOOTS her down! The ref missed it but sees Hayter in the ring. Britt hops up, but Ruby SUPERKICKS Britt in return! Ruby runs at Hayter, but gets an IRISH CURSE! Storm SUPERKICKS Hayter, then Alabama SLAMS Britt onto Hayter! Storm gets Britt back up, but Britt hits AIR RAID CRASH outta nowhere!! All four women are down but fans fire up! Eddie Kingston tells everyone else to shut up. Jericho knows who this is. Kingston’s been with his lovely wife for 20 years, she’s seen him beat up and in pieces. But when he walked home after that fireball, his wife started crying. Jericho can laugh now, but Kingston seeing his wife cry is burned to his soul. This isn’t about pro-wrestling or sports entertainment. Kingston wants to make Jericho feel the fear and pain his wife felt. Kingston promises he’s gonna hurt Jericho, for her. Kingston hangs up and Jericho doesn’t get what this is about. Is the Mad King coming for more than just a victory in the ring?

Tony Nese and Mark Sterling speak.

But Nese interrupts his lawyer to ask why THE hottest free agent signing in AEW’s history have to force his way onto the show? He doesn’t know the right people? Well he does now. Nese wants a match with the kid who knows all the right people. The undefeated phenomenon and the idiot that everyone loves for who knows why. Next week, Dynamite in Long Island, Nese’s hometown, Nese gives this man his first loss! He wants AEW to send… DANHAUSEN! Wait, what? Danhausen hasn’t even had one match in AEW! Will Nese take out his frustrations on the very nice, very evil Danhausen? Or will he just end up cursed?

Hook VS JD Drake!

The Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil is undefeated, and he won’t let that change any time soon. Will Scrap Metal end up exactly that? Or will this Workhorseman end Hook’s streak?

The bell rings, Hook and Drake circle as fans rally up. They tie up, Hook gets around and trips Drake, but Drake scrambles to the ropebreak. The ref counts, Hook lets off at 4, but Drake pie faces then CHOPS Hook! Hook shakes that off, and he seems to actually like it! He wants another, so Drake CHOPS into a headbutt! Hook gets around, drop steps then trips Drake! Drake kicks Hook away but runs into an EL CAMINO!! Fans fire up for Hook as he paces around. Hook gets Drake up, wrenches, reels him in, but Drake counters with a facelock. Drake makes it a dragon sleeper, inverted suplex, but Hook slips into the REDRUM!! Drake taps, Hook wins!!

Hook won’t let go of Drake until he’s satisfied, but once again he is undefe- Oh, here comes Danhausen! He introduces himself and says Hook decimated “this super fool.” Quite wonderful. Now, just in case Hook wasn’t watching earlier, but that Tony Nese has challenged Danhausen. Nese no doubt will have “Menacing Mike” in his corner, so Danhausen has a proposal. Fans already anticipate it and chant, “Hookhausen! Hookhausen!” Yes, Hookhausen sounds good. So perhaps Hook will be in Danhausen’s corner against Nese? What says Hook? Fans want him to say, “YES! YES! YES!” But Hook SHOVES Danhausen!

Danhausen picks himself up, and magically produces a bag of chips! It has a bow on it? Hook picks up the chips, only to throw them aside! What will convince Hook to help Danhausen?

Lexi Nair notes last week’s match, Cash VS Dax, an all-time classic. Dax won and moves into the Owen Hart Men’s Tournament, and Cash says Dax did win. Dax will win again and again to win the whole thing. Dax says that it is well noted the wrestlers Adam Cole looks up to, and Dax says the Harts mean a lot to him. Cole is a great pro-wrestler, but as a person, ain’t no respect for him. These fans are chanting for FTR and Dax loves that. But before that love, the fans hated him, and Dax admits he deserved that hate because he was a nasty bastard. Dynamite, the Owen Hart opening round, Dax promises to bring that nasty bastard back to beat Adam Cole.

Dax will be damned if Cole goes on ahead of Dax and win the tournament! Dax is going to do this for himself, for his best friend, for his family, and for the Hart Family. #TopGuysOut. But will Dax the Ax chop down Cole and go to the semifinals?

Owen Hart Women’s Tournament Qualifier: Riho VS Yuka Sakazaki!

It has been awhile since these two have met in an AEW ring, and it was very heated when they did. But with such a big honor on the line, will it be the inaugural AEW Women’s World Champion or the Magical Girl Wrestler making history here tonight?

The bell rings and the two rivals circle. Fans rally, they tie up, and Yuka headlocks. Riho throws body shots, powers out but Yuka wrenches to a wristlock. Riho rolls, wrenches back to a wristlock, but Yuka rolls to wrench and hammerlock. Riho reaches back, but Yuka fights her off to a headlock takeover. Riho headscissors, Yuka kips free and fans fire up for the standoff. The two reset, tie up, and Yuka headlocks again. Riho throws more body shots, then powers out. Things speed up, Yuka rolls and runs to arm-drag Riho! Riho sweeps, covers, ONE! Yuka sweeps and covers, ONE as Riho goes Matrix!

Fans fire up and Riho dropkicks Yuka down! Yuka flounders to a corner, Riho runs corner to corner, JUMP KNEE! Yuka flounders, Riho goes out and up the corner. Fans fire up as Riho leaps, CROSSBODY! Cover, TWO! Yuka narrowly gets out, but fans rally behind Riho as she reels Yuka in. Yuka blocks with a facelock, throws down elbows, and she whips Riho to a corner. Riho reverses and runs in, but Yuka BOOTS her! Yuka goes up top, cartwheels to avoid Riho, then runs to dropkick Riho out of the ring! Fans fire up with Yuka now and she builds speed. Yuka goes up and up and CANNONBALLS! Direct hit and fans fire up again!

Rampage goes picture in picture and Yuka drags Riho up off the floor. Yuka puts Riho in the ring, then hurries to cover. TWO, but Yuka keeps cool. Yuka drags Riho by a leg, and drops an elbow on the knee! And another! Yuka pulls on the toehold but Riho pulls Yuka’s hair. Yuka gets up to hit a SPINNING TOEHOLD! Riho endures the twist, but Yuka hits another SPINNING TOEHOLD! Yuka gets up again, ties up both legs, and turns Riho over for a TRAILER HITCH! Riho endures and scrambles around while fans rally up. Riho drags Yuka along, Yuka pulls on the leglock, but Riho gets the ROPEBREAK!

The ref counts, Yuka lets go, but she stalks Riho to the corner. Yuka drags Riho up and puts the bad leg in the ropes. Yuka pulls but stops as the ref counts 4. Yuka runs in but Riho UPPERCUTS her! Then BULLDOGS! Cover, TWO!! Yuka survives again and Riho grows a bit annoyed. Riho shakes out the bad leg, drags Yuka up but Yuka shoots around to shove Riho to a corner as Rampage goes to break.

Rampage returns and Riho is up top. She leaps but Yuka moves to avoid the double stomp! Riho rolls, runs back in, but into a scoop and EXPLODER! Cover, TWO!! Yuka grits her teeth and she drags Riho to center. Yuka goes to the apron, climbs the ropes, MAGICAL GIRL SPLASH onto knees! Riho clutches the bad leg while Yuka flounders. Fans rally up, Riho reels Yuka in, DRAGON SUPLEX! Yuka flounders to a corner and Riho goes corner to corner, but Yuka ducks the meteora! Sunset flip, TWO! Riho sits on it, TWO!! POINT-BLANK DOUBLE KNEES! Cover, TWO!! Yuka survives and no one can believe it!

Riho argues with Aubrey but that count was fair. Riho puts Yuka in the drop zone and climbs up the corner. Fans rally again as she reaches the top, but Yuka springs up after Riho! Yuka fires forearms, but Riho hits back! They brawl up top, Yuka gets the edge and stands Riho up! SUPER COMPLETE SHOT!! Cover, TWO!! Riho survives and Yuka is beside herself! Yuka drags Riho up, “This is Awesome!” and Yuka wrenches and hammerlocks to a pump handle and lift! MERRY-GO- NO!! Roll up, TWO!!! Riho dodges to ROCK Yuka, but Yuka comes back to ROCK Riho! They go back and forth, forearm for forearm, Riho wobbles but ROCKS Yuka back!

Yuka smiles through as she fires off boxing elbows! ROLLING- NO! Body scissor clutch and a cradle, RIHO WINS!

The seventh seed is found! And with that, we have our bracket! Riho VS Ruby Soho, Red Velvet VS Hikaru Shida, Toni Storm VS Jamie Hayter, and Britt Baker VS… A JOKER! Who will be the wild card dealt in the Owen Hart Women’s Cup? And will the Doctor be ready to see them?

Shawn Spears speaks.

He applauds and says, “The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Well done, Wardlow. I say your name now because I need you to listen.” Being Wardlow’s accountabilibuddy and mentor, Spears sees Wardlow has a false sense of invincibility. But even Superman has Kryptonite. But Wardlow knows Spears. Spears does very bad things for good reasons. He doesn’t align with the deepest pockets, but with the darkest intentions. Spears made Wardlow feel 50 feet tall and he has put down every other giant put in front of him. Now Wardlow stands atop the mountain as the number one giant in the industry today!

“Well, Superman, Wardlow the Giant. Here comes Kryptonite.” Spears’ chair has “Giant killer” plastered on it, will he get to splatter Wardlow all over the mat before he ever has a shot at MJF?

Dan Lambert and the Men of the Year are in the ring.

Lambert starts with, “I’m not here looking for some cheap hometown pop, but I am from Baltimore. And coming back here after all these years to an AEW ring in Oriole Country, makes me sick to my stomach. Because just like this company ruined professional wrestling, you Balti-morons have destroyed this once great city!” And to top it all off, Lambert went out for crab cakes last night, and they were disgusting! When he’d rather bring home Baltimore crabs from a downtown hooker than a bayside restaurant, it’s time Dynamite Dan says he’s from Miami!

Ethan Page says they had a team meeting in regards to the mixed tag match they signed on for with Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti. Dan made a very good point: As much as Ethan Page would love to get his hands on Sammy and scar him for LIFE…! Dan asked how Ethan would feel knowing his daughter saw daddy wrestle in a match that would subject her “to those two nitwits” sucking face! It makes Ethan SICK!! And those two have the audacity to call this pro-wrestling? Sammy, you don’t seem like a guy who keeps his word, so neither is Ethan! The mixed tag match is DENIED!

Frankie Kazarian storms out and says while they’re talking about Sammy, it’s funny because Sammy and Ethan have a lot in common. They both have very high opinions of themselves, have very stupid vlogs, and all Ethan would need at this point is a really annoying girlfriend at his side and he’d BE Sammy Guevara. Thinking about it, he has Dan Lambert, it doesn’t come more annoying than that. Kaz joins them in the ring and says he doesn’t care about Sammy, about Lambert or about Ethan Page. He’s here for Scorp. Kaz has always believed in Scorpio. Fans chant for “S C U!” as Kaz says while he’s been Scorpio’s biggest fan and supporter, he’s now Scorpio’s biggest threat.

All Kaz wants is for Scorpio to deliver on the promise: A TNT Championship match! Fans like the sound of that! Ethan stops Scorpio and steps up to Kaz. Ethan is glad Kaz is dressed for a funeral. Because SCU is DEAD, dude! Scorpio steps in and speaks up. Before this goes off the rails, he said things would be different. He’s bringing respect back to the TNT title, and he’ll do it as a fighting champion! That means every worthy contender gets a shot. Scorpio also vows to be a dominant champion! The days of the TNT title being passed around like Tay Conti are OVER. And with all due respect, Lambert, that means the other belt goes in the trophy case where it was supposed to be.

Fans rally for Scorpio and he tells Kaz that he gave Kaz his word. Next week, Kaz has his shot! Fans are ready to see these two inaugural AEW World Tag Team Champions battle for the TNT Championship! Who comes away with the belt, and the title “Face of TNT?”

Jungle Boy walks out to commentary!

And he stares down Ricky Starks! Starks was talking trash, will he back it up? He pie faces JB, so JB TACKLES Starks! They brawl right by commentary! JB KICKS Starks, has him on the stage and then DECKS him! Fans fire up as JB chases Starks away, then picks up the FTW Championship! Taz tells JB to put that down, it ain’t his yet! But will it be after Dynamite?

Konosuke Takeshita knows Jay Lethal’s work, but is he worried about facing him? Konosuke says he respects Jay Lethal-san, but he’s not afraid of him. Whoa, whoa, whoa, Takeshita isn’t afraid? Sonjay says Takeshita isn’t afraid of Satnam Singh, a seven foot four giant? Takeshita isn’t afraid of Sonjay Dutt? Takeshita isn’t afraid of Jay Lethal, former ROH World Heavyweight Champion and longest reigning ROH World Television Champion? Lethal hopes  Samoa Joe heard that part! And Takeshita, after tonight’s disrespect, Lethal will give you a reason to be very afraid! Then it looks like there’s been enough talk. It’s time for the main event!

The bell rings and fans rally up for Lethal as he circles with Konosuke. They tie up, Konosuke gets to a waistlock then SLAMS Lethal down. Konosuke facelocks but Lethal reaches out to get a ropebreak. Fans cheer the exchange as the two reset. They circle, tie up, and Konosuke wants an arm. Lethal rolls, wrenches, wristlocks, but Konosuke wrenches and snapmares. Konosuke chinlocks but Lethal fight sup. Lethal powers out of the headlock but reels Konosuke into a takedown! Konosuke kicks him away, but Lethal CHOPS! And CHOPS! Lethal whips, Konosuke reverses to run, but into a hip toss! Lethal cartwheels to basement dropkick!

Fans fire up and Lethal struts around. Konosuke keeps his cool, and he CHOPS Lethal back! And CHOPS again! Lethal ducks the third but Konosuke arm-drags him around! Then CALF KICKS! Fans fire up and Konosuke struts! “WOO~!” But Lethal ROCKS Konosuke! Konosuke hits back, Lethal KICKs the leg! Konosuke throws more forearms but Lethal knee and whips. Konosuke reverses, forearm smashes in the corner, then whips. Lethal reverses but Konosuke rebounds for a FLYING SHOULDER! Lethal bails out while fans fire up and Konosuke aims. PLANCHA! And a big one! Konosuke then fetches Lethal up and into the ring.

Satnam gets in Konosuke’s face but Konosuke backs up. Konosuke gets in but Lethal KICKS his leg! DRAPING DRAGON SCREW! Then Lethal DIVES! Direct hit and Konosuke is sent into barriers! Sonjay cheers Lethal on as Rampage goes picture in picture.

Lethal soaks up the heat, then gets back in the ring. Lethal distracts the ref and Sonjay mugs Konosuke! Sonjay puts Konosuke in and Lethal ROCKS Konosuke with a forearm. Lethal ROCKS Konosuke again, then brings him around to trip Konsouke up. Lethal lets out a “WOO” but Konosuke kicks him off the figure four! Konosuke gets up but Lethal trips him again! Jackknife bridge, TWO! Lethal has the legs, to CATAPULT Konosuke into buckles! Konosuke staggers into a scoop and BACKBREAKER! Lethal then stands Konosuke up for a SHINBREAKER, and DRAGON SCREW! Konosuke clutches his bad leg, Lethal covers, TWO!

Lethal keeps cool as he then runs and handsprings, into a basement dropkick! Konosuke denies Lethal the cutter and Lethal flops out of the ring! Konosuke gets that bad leg moving, then goes out after Lethal, only for Lethal to SLAM the bad leg on the apron! Lethal then whips Konosuke into railing! Lethal runs in, but Konosuke drop toeholds Lethal into railing! Konosuke ROCKS Lethal with a forearm, puts him in the ring, and fires up with Baltimore. Konosuke climbs up a corner but Lethal hits him first! Lethal CHOPS Konosuke, talks trash, then CHOPS again! Lethal climbs up, brings Konosuke up, but Konosuke blocks the superplex!

Konosuke ROCKS Lethal back with forearm after forearm, but Lethal hits back! Lethal gets up with Konosuke as Rampage returns to single picture. Konosuke fights Lethal off, SUPER LARIAT!! Both men fall, Konosuke covers, TWO!! “This is Awesome!” and far from over! Konosuke gets up, drags Lethal up and reels him in. Fans rally and duel, Lethal victory rolls to get the FIGURE FOUR!! Konosuke drags himself over, ROPEBREAK! Lethal lets go in frustration then drags Konosuke back. Konosuke cradle counters to a deadlift BRAINBUSTER! Cover, TWO!! Lethal survives and Sonjay is freaking out!

Konosuke drags Lethal up but Lethal clubs the bad leg. Konosuke ROCKS Lethal with a right! Konosuke whips, Lethal ducks the rolling elbow to hit the LETHAL COMBINATION! Fans fire up, Lethal runs and handsprings, but Konosuke lets Lethal roll off his back! Wind up, LARIAT!! Then he gets Lethal up for a RUN JUMP KNEE!! Cover, Sonjay distracts the ref!! Konosuke would’ve won twice over! The ref makes it back and counts, TWO!!! Konosuke still almost had Lethal!! But Konosuke shakes it off to get Lethal up. Lethal KICKS Konosuke’s leg! But Konosuke DECKS Lethal with that right!

Konosuke fires up but Lethal kicks the leg from below! Konosuke stays up, tries again, but Lethal gets around to O’Conner Roll! TWO!! Lethal handsprings, LETHAL INJECTION!! Cover, Lethal wins!

Lethal survives thanks to Sonjay and Satnam, and Sonjay has a mic. “Hold on, hold on!” Remember what Lethal said? How this kid wasn’t afraid? Sonjay and Lethal start stomping, but here come the BEST FRIENDS! They want payback for getting literally tossed aside by Lethal and company! Trent and Chuck hold up for a moment, but then figure what the heck. They blast past Satnam’s defense to go after Lethal and Sonjay! Satnam FLAPJACKS Trent, then choke grips Chuck! Satnam DRIBBLES Chuck on the mat! Orange Cassidy finally gets to the ring, and he puts the sunglasses away!

Fans fire up as Satnam stares Cassidy down. Cassidy puts his hands in his pockets, then hops away. Because here comes SAMOA JOE! And he has his steel pipe! Fans fire up but refs and security rush out to stop this! Lethal and crew taunt Joe but Joe dares them to come after him. Will Lethal prove he has the guts to go toe to toe with the Samoan Submission Machine?

My Thoughts:

A great Rampage, and I kinda like it being earlier. No overlap with how SmackDown is right before it and I never get to it live. And for once, AEW has two women’s matches on a card! The opening tag match was great stuff to push things story wise in the women’s tournament, especially with Storm VS Hayter being already decided. Storm and Soho win here but I can’t say that’ll affect the math. Hayter and Britt are on the same side of the bracket, so I don’t see them facing off. Storm can win against Hayter to face Britt, but that also depends on who Britt’s opponent is. A joker for a surprise entrant, can’t wait to see who AEW gets, even just for this one match.

Riho VS Yuka was awesome stuff, especially as the last qualifier. Riho’s new all black gear looked good, but there wasn’t a real change in her style, like Heel behavior. Riho winning made a lot of sense, too, as she is a big part of AEW Women’s Division history. Riho VS Soho will be great, too, and could go either way. Shida lost in the Philly Street Fight, she might redeem herself against Red Velvet. Good “phone call” promo from Eddie Kingston, good backstage promo from FTR to call out Cole, and great interaction from Jungle Boy and Starks to hype up the FTW Championship. But JB touching the belt, that’s bad luck, Starks finds a way to retain.

Good swerve in the promo from Nese and Sterling, making us think they want Hook but they are chickening out to go for Danhausen first. And great interaction from Danhausen and Hook to further the #Hookhausen team-up. I definitely want to see that happen, so maybe Hook shows up late to Nese VS Danhausen and that gives Danhausen the encouragement to win. Oh and of course Hook destroys his opponent again, it’s his thing. Good promo from Spears, I bet one of the “conditions” in the Wardlow VS MJF contract is that Wardlow faces Spears first, Spears is the only one allowed weapons.

A very good and very intriguing promo from Lambert, Men of the Year and Kaz. It seems Men of the Year/American Top Team is just done with SamTay, mostly to let the heat on Sammy die down. But Scorpio is the only one staying Face as he gives Kaz that title shot and vows to be a workhorse with that belt. Scorpio will likely retain, but I bet it’s because Ethan and Lambert continue to be Heel on his behalf. There could be a break-up of Men of the Year with the TNT Championship on the line, but we’ll wait and see.

Great promos before the main event and what a great main event. Awesome showing for Konosuke but naturally Lethal and team Heel a way to a win. Likewise, I figured we’d see Joe, but it was great for Best Friends to show up and want their own payback. Best Friends might be key to keeping Sonjay and Satnam at bay while Lethal and Joe have it out in an ROH World TV Championship match. Depending on how deep into the Owen Hart Men’s Cup Joe is going, he might drop that title to Lethal and Lethal leads the way for whatever eventual ROH weekly show they come up with.
