Andrew’s Judgmental Albums Reviews: Screamer – Kingmaker (2023)
Kicking of 2023 with some Swedish classic heavy metal! Screamer is up for Judgment!

So the beginning of a new year is weird for music. Usually December is a mostly barren wasteland, and January takes a few weeks to find something interesting. This week I had options, and decided to stick in my favorite vein of music; Heavy Metal. A more classic/power flavored band out of Sweden caught my attention.
The name of the band may be meme-worthy (hence why it caught my eye), but they seem to have a solid sounds. Clean vocals, classic riffing and a generally palatable display of their talents. I’ve only heard a smattering of things before coming into this album, so lets get things started!
Screamer is: Henrik Petersson (Drums), Dejan Rosic (Guitar), Andreas Wikstrom (Vocals), Fredrick Svensson Carlstrom (Bass), Jonathan Mortensen (Guitar)
- Artist: Screamer
- Album: Kingmaker (2023)
- Label: Steamhammer
- Total Track Time: 39:41
Kingmaker guitar tone and the general tone of the vocals reminds me heavily of En Force era Queensryche. Though not showing off a Geoff Tate level of vocal range, the control and harmony with the guitars and some mob vocal effects still sounds good. Rise Above this song shows a little more Iron Maiden flair with the dual guitar harmonies, a little bit of a gallop on the rhythm section and a driving rocking song. Very solid song about rising above society to become a new foundation for something. The Traveler really steers into the 80s sound with what sounds like a little chiming synth effect on the guitar part during the verses. I feel like watching Night Rider or…something with David Hasselhoff. Lyrically its surprisingly deep while grooving and rocking as it paints the picture of someone being the lonely traveler doing his job for someone else. Could be an allegory for being a rock band, doing it for the fans; or a more country aspect of doing it for someone back home. Not overly clear, but the different paths makes it a more fun song.
Hellfire fairly simple song about hell fire cleansing liars. It kinda just happened, felt like a filler song honestly. Not offensive but nothing noteworthy either. Chasing the Rainbow hits the correct notes with a name like this. The vocal harmonies with the guitars, rhythm driven verses and general sound gives me the Dio vibes they were probably going for. Lyrics are in the fantasy realm, so not worth noting, but its a cool song. Ashes and Fire now this already catches my attention because its a slower tempo with a nice audible bass line. The song reminds me a bit of Dead London off that Jorn album I loved last year. Burn it Down picks the pace back up, and we’ve got a bit of Maiden mixed with a King Diamond style chorus line. The singer finally shows a King style falsetto, and now I want to hear him use it more. This song splices tempo shifts well and finally unveiling that falsetto makes this unique in a great way.
Fall of a Common Man this has a little more of a Quiet Riot or Twisted Sister vibe with being a little slower, simple and a very fist up while headbanging gang vocal on the chorus. Not a bad song, just very basic and very 80s bar banger. Sounds of the Night seems to be a song, about exactly what you think it is. While trying to cloud the plot with a few fantasy elements, there’s one line, something to the effect of; “In the sounds of the night, you’re as soft as a kiss, in the sounds of the night, you’re still louder than hell”. So I don’t think spells and werewolf imagery can really distract from what exactly you’re under the “spell” of. Renegade is not a song about the knock-off WCW Ultimate Warrior or Lorenzo Lamas. Actually…nope…definitely not either of them.
I mentioned it earlier, so we all know I enjoy classic style heavy metal; Jorn was my number one album last year by a solid margin. However, this misses the mark a little. The singer is good, but rarely showing any range hurts the soaring and epic vibes of fantasy elements and guitar driven music. The fact it just gets sprinkled in at the tail end of Renegade and during Burn it Down; its more like an irritating tease than trying not to spoil the listener.
The album is solid, and starts the year off more positively than what I picked for 2022. Its not amazing, but its a solid rocking listen and at just under 40 minutes; it never wears out its welcome.
Final Judgment: 7.3/10

Set a course for Treasure Island, again!
Kage won the Beat the Clock Challenge, but he wants a shot at a title that’s already spoken for! How will HPW Management address his demands?
View this post on Instagram
The Eventide Challenge is set!
While the Hero’s Shadow won the Beat the Clock Challenge, Riju, Sidon, Onox, Donny B. Kool, Thunderbird and Ghirahim still won their matches, and are therefore entered into the annual Treasure Island tradition, the Eventide Challenge! But learning from last year, HPW will take no chances with the island and the weather, so it will once again be a Ladder Match! Whoever can climb above the others will be the NEW #1 contender to the Undisputed HPW Triforce World Championship, that title match set at Clash of Fates in October. Gerudo, Zora, Draconic, Geru, Rito, or… Uh, ghoul? Who will be headed for Hyrule Coliseum?
It’ll be all or nothing for the Desert Colossus!
As she and Shabonne discussed during Termina Velocity, Tali gets one more shot at Ladrona and the HPW Goddess Championship. If Tali loses, she can’t challenge for the title again until Ladrona loses it to someone else. Will Tali be able to take this title from The Thief Girl? Or will Ladrona tough it out to keep this treasure just out of Tali’s reach?
The MagicaLadies defend their gold!
Midna, Cia & Lana won the HPW World Trios Championships during ThunderStruck’s Blood & Thunder, and they’ve been showing off the side plates ever since. However, titles must be defended, and the Faces of Evil want their belts back! Will the titles go right back to where they were? Or can the Twilight Princess, Dark Sorceress & Blue Haired Goddess dispel the Dark Forces?
Osphala claims controversy!?
The Gleaming Yellow Light lost his gold when he fought Igos du Ikana for the HPW Termina Championship. But reviewing the match, he points out the ropebreak violation as a point of contention. Osphala feels Igos won that match under rather disputable circumstances. If the Gravestone hold had been broken when Tiger Sahasrahla told Igos to, the match would be very different. Well, that’s a very coulda/shoulda/woulda argument, but Osphala is standing firm by it. Osphala wants a fair rematch! In fact, Treasure Island is all about titles, he deserves a rematch!
Igos du Ikana responds.
“Osphala… You didn’t like how you lost? Well, aren’t you special? No one likes how they lost, because no one likes losing. You may not like that I was bending the rules, but that’s all I did. I didn’t break the rules by not breaking my hold, or else I would’ve been disqualified immediately. But if you can’t get over it, if you can’t accept it, if you can’t forget it, then I shall offer a compromise. I will put up both my titles, both Termina and Death Mountain, for you to fight for. But it won’t be in any ordinary match. If avenging this apparent injustice means so much to you, then you will be willing to face… IKANA DEATH!”
A quick highlight reel of the most brutal moments in TCW history goes by, then the screen goes black. Then, with an echo going on, Igos adds, “Dead men tell no tales. But legends never die.” The Ruler of Ruin has raised the stakes, will Osphala call? Or will he fold?
Everyone wants the Undisputed Triforce World Championship!
Well, controversy seems to be common these days! Ganon won his shot at HPW’s top title with help from Zant, but then Zant lost to Kage in a minute and change! With that, the Hero’s Shadow won this year’s Beat the Clock Challenge. And while HPW Management was hoping he’d choose the Death Mountain title, the Termina title, or maybe even the Million Rupee Championship, he stubbornly demanded a shot at THE Undisputed Triforce World Championship. Nicholas Foolyere tried to talk him into one of the other titles, Kage shoved him, so Zelda came to her father’s aid.
Kage is still owed a title match for winning the Beat the Clock Challenge, which was meant to make up for Ganon’s deception. Nicholas Foolyere didn’t want to after how Kage treated him, but between Humpback Hook Halibut and Starfish McMaguro agreeing in the meeting, and even Zelda wanting after Kage, the decision has been made. Treasure Island will now see a TRIPLE THREAT for the Undisputed Triforce World Championship! Zelda VS Ganon VS Kage, first fall to a finish! Will the Hero’s Shadow continue to copy his brother and take this title back? Will the Princess of Hyrule win this gamble? Or will the Gerudo Ace be highest of all?
