PLAY BY PLAY

The Judgment Day heads to the ring!

Fans boo as WWE Women’s World Champion, Rhea Ripley, and the NEW NXT North American Champion, Dominik Mysterio, return to NXT. Mami has a battle with The Morrigan as she was challenged last night after Raw, but she and Dom are in good spirits after Dirty Dom did Sami dirty in retaining the title. Dom holds the belt up as fans boo, and Rhea says, “Just like I constantly say, the Judgment Day, we run all of the WWE! Look at us! Finn Balor, he’s gonna be the new Heavyweight Champion. Damian Priest is Senor Money int he Bank!” Dom says Mami Rhea is the GREATEST Women’s World Champion!

Fans boo Dom but Rhea says “Dirty Dominik” is YOUR NXT North American Champion! The look on everyone’s faces! All the neckbeards freaking out, babies crying, women screaming! And Dom finally made the Mysterio name relevant! Fans boo but Rhea tells him to tune that out. As for Lyra Valkyria- Fans chant “Cut the Mullet!” but Rhea says no, Dom’s mullet is righteous. Now listen to Mami while she’s speaking! And as she was saying, if Lyra wants to step to Rhea, that’s rather courageous. But you wanna challenge- WAIT! Wes Lee shows up! And he says nah nah nah! He is NOT taking this! Wes HATES seeing his title in Dom’s hands!

Dom says on one cuts off Mami but Wes tells him to shut up! “For 269 days, that title represented hard work and opportunity.” Wes lifted that title up, but that title also made him a better competitor, because he put his heart and soul into the title! And to lose it the way he did, to DOM!?! You best believe Wes wants a rematch. Rhea says c’mon, Wes. A new NXT North American Champion is exactly what NXT needed. Wes doesn’t want them to get it twisted. He does agree, we need a new champion, tonight! But wait! Here comes MUSTAFA ALI! And he wants Wes to listen. Ali has love and respect for Wes, but none for “Dum-Dum!”

Dom STOLE that title from Ali! That is all he does! HE steals things! Catchphrases, his daddy’s moves, his other daddy’s moves, and then he stole Ali’s opportunity to become the NEW NXT North American Champion! It was meant to be Ali that beat Wes to take the title, but then “this clown” had to drop the ball- Oh… Ali tries to apologize but Wes says he should drop Ali right now. Fans chant for “TRIPLE THREAT!” as Ali apologizes more. He is just angry! He is frustrated! He was in line, and this dude just shows up and cuts the line! And it’s WES’S fault cuz he let Dom cut the line!

Ali warned Wes but Wes is too stupid- Wes SLAPS the mic down and tells Ali to watch his mouth! Dom says this seems like a “you guys” problem, not a Dom problem. He doesn’t care who is at the Bash. Hell, he could fight both of them! Dom is gonna break all the records, and uh, sorry, Ali, champ coming through. Ali takes a swing, Dom dodges, and Wes takes the hit! Wes TACKLES Ali! Wes fires off on Ali, Ali hits back, and fans boo as Dom just slips away. But then Wes and Ali realize who the real enemy is. They let off each other, still arguing, but will at least one of them be able to bring down the champ that shouldn’t be?

Backstage interview with Tony D’Angelo & Channing Lorenzo.

McKenzie Mitchell is with The Don & Stacks, and she welcomes Tony back. It feels good to be back. And the reception he received, he’ll never forget. Speaking of, Gallus tried to ruin that homecoming. Yeah, how’d that work out for ’em? Stacks says Marky Mark did a nosedive into the cannolies. Now all that’s left is this Sunday. They will reclaim the streets of NXT when they win the tag titles at The Great American Bash! But then in step Bronco Nima & Lucien Price. What streets are they talking about? Where they’re from, they ain’t never heard Tony’s name.

But now that Nima & Price are here, you’ll be hearing their names a lot! Especiamente (Especially) after Sunday, if, and that’s a big if, Tony & Stacks win the titles Oh, that was Espanol? Si. Well, the D’Angelo Family speaks softly, but they carry big sticks. Nima keeps Price back. Tony says Sunday is Sunday, but if these boys are looking to make a name for themselves, Tony wants to shake the rust off. See you tonight. Tony & Stacks head out, will they teach the new kids on the block how things are done around here?

Backstage interview with Lyra Valkyria.

McKenzie is with The Morrigan and asks her about her challenge to Rhea. Why did she ask for this match? Lyra says she’s been back in NXT for just over seven months. She needs to know where she stands. And Rhea, well Lyra’s been watching her since NXT UK! And look where Rhea is now! She is the measuring stick of the WWE! And now Lyra knows Rhea’s been watching her this whole time, too. Lyra needs to know where she stands, not bide her time like Jacy Jayne or the others in the locker room. Tonight, this is not about Rhea or Jacy, but about her. And tonight, Lyra shows the world who she is!

Six Man Tag: Carmelo Hayes, Trick Williams & Ilja Dragunov VS The Schism!

Also speaking of Sunday, the NXT Championship will be defending by HIM against the Mad Russian Dragon. But they and Trick Willy need to defend their honor first against Joe Gacy, Rip Fowler & Jagger Reed. Will Trick Melo Gang be able to work with The Czar to cut down The Schism’s tree? Or will the roots simply grow by feeding off their dysfunction?

NXT returns as Dragunov makes his entrance to join Trick Melo Gang. They step into the ring with The Schism, then the teams sort out. Gacy starts against Melo and the two circle. They tie up, Gacy wrenches and wristlocks but Melo roll,s kips up and arm-drags free! But Gacy sweeps the legs to cover, ONE! Melo sweeps to cover, ONE! Fans boo but Jagger keeps Trick from his corner to CLUB him down!

Jagger then sucker punches Melo! Dragunov is fired up but the ref keeps him and Melo back. Rip joins Jagger and they get Trick up! Double suplex, but Melo makes the save! Trick Melo Gang dodge, FLYING FOREARM and a SPRINGOBSRD LARIAT from the boys! They pass, shoot and score~! Fans fire up as NXT goes picture in picture.

Dragunov wants Trick Melo Gang to take this a little more seriously but Trick says it’s okay. Tag to Melo, and Melo goes after Jagger. Jagger gets away to his corner, and the two reset. Jagger wrenches an arm, whips Melo to a corner, but Melo goes up and over and handsprings to arm-drag! And arm-drag again! And then DROPKICK! Jagger keeps between Melo and his corner, DECKS Melo with a forearm, and then wraps on another SLEEPER! Melo endures again as Jagger shifts position to put on more pressure. Not quite a Bully Choke, and NXT returns to single picture. Melo kicks and moves around, fights up, and he throws body shots. Jagger shoves Melo back but Melo BOOTS him! And DECKS Rip! Fans boo more, but Dragunov BOOTS Jagger and fires off hands on Rip! Dragunov CHOPS and CHOPS and CHOPS, then SPINNING CHOPS Rip! Jagger ROLLING ELBOWS but Dragunov ENZIGURIS! Rip clinches, Jagger ENZIGURIS! Then the Dyad combines, POWERBOMB BACKSTABBER!! Tag to Gacy and he takes aim, but wait, some of the Schism followers trip up The Dyad!? Gacy FROG FLOPS as Dragunov moves!

Ava is confused, who were those two that messed up The Dyad? Dragunov roars, but Melo tags in! Melo is taking the shot himself! NOTHING BUT NET!! Cover, Trick Melo Gang wins!

Winners: Carmelo Hayes, Trick Williams & Ilja Dragunov, by pinfall

The team didn’t fall apart, but it wasn’t an easy win. Trick wants after Dragunov over the misunderstanding, but Melo keeps him back. Dragunov does his best to explain that headbutt was an accident, but will he have no qualms about hitting Melo on Sunday?

NXT shares footage from last night.

It would seem an incident broke out at a bodega! Roxanne Perez attacked Blair Davenport a la Blair attacking everyone else! We see how this all went down later tonight, but is Roxie gonna show the heir is the one who should beware?

Tiffany Stratton speaks.

“When a superstar is born, no one sleeps on it. You don’t need to take classes to learn it, you’re just ‘it.’ And I’m it.” Tiff says that at just 24 years old, she is this fab and nowhere near her prime. She is the “epitome of what a women’s champion is.” She runs faster, jumps higher and lifts heavier, all while looking way hotter than everyone else. The Great American Bash will be he first Premium Live Event as champion, and she didn’t come this far to have it taken away by some 19-year-old brat. The girl has energy, Tiff gives Thea Hail that. Thea’s like a human energy drink, and could probably run from Florida to Texas.

But how catastrophic would it be if Thea became champion? It is Tiff’s responsibility to no one but herself to make sure Thea does NOT get her hands on the title. And lets’ set the record straight: At Gold Rush, Tiff did NOT tap out. Her hand “grazed the mat” a couple times, but the ref didn’t see it, so it doesn’t matter. But out of the goodness of her heart, she is giving everyone what they want, since they all love Thea. ShE’s sO AdOrAbLe~! But really? What does she call attacking Tiff and forcing her into a submission match? That’s not adorable, that’s despicable!

But payback is coming. Thea can bring Chase, Duke, the student section, it won’t matter. After The Bash, the Universe will still revolve around Tiff. And Tiff will still be THE NXT Women’s Champion. Tootles. Tiff is high on herself as always, but will Thea drag her down and tap her out on the record this time?

BREAKING NEWS for Great American Bash!

The fans wanted it, and it is happening! It will be a TRIPLE THREAT for the North American Championship! Dominik Mysterio VS Mustafa Ali VS Wes Lee, will the numbers spell disaster for Dom at The Bash?

Von Wagner w/ Robert Stone VS Javier Bernal!

As “Vicious Von” has been opening up to Suit Man Stone over these past couple of months, there have been those who would still try and belittle him. Big Body Javi made the mistake of being the newest bully, will Von beat him down from bell to bell? Or maybe Von will just put Javi through another table?

The bell rings and Javi runs in to knee low! Javi fires off forearms and CHOPS and haymakers, but Von TOSSES him to a corner! Von SPLASHES, then bumps Javi off buckles! Von fires swatting haymakers but the ref counts. Von CLOBBERS Javi with that last one! Von stands Javi up to whip and BOOT him down! Fans fire up and Von rains down fists! Von stomps Javi, then waits on him to get up. Javi rises, Von hauls him up and URENAGES him down! Cover, Von wins!!

Winner: Von Wagner, by pinfall

Maybe Javi would’ve preferred the table to how he got dominated here! But then Von looks over at the desk as Javi writhes on the outside. So Von goes out and the fans fire up! Von nods and Stone says go ahead with your bad self! Von drags Javi up, and POWERBOMBS him through the table!! But then BRON SPEARS VON!! Fans boo as Badass Bron turns into jackass Bron and beats down Von! Bron then brings out a chair! Bron looms over Von, and then SMACKS Von on the back! Fans boo, refs rush out to tell Bron to back off, and Bron soaks up all that heat. Bron says he’s #MeanerThanEvil, but is he poking a bear he shouldn’t be provoking at all?

Dragunov and Melo talk backstage.

Melo says good W there, but that’s as far as they go. Dragunov says he’s okay with that. Only one leaves on Sunday with the championship. Yeah, MELO’s championship. Trick storms into the room and gets in Dragunov’s face. Melo has Trick back off and Dragunov says sometimes “collateral damage” happens. Trick says they can skip the collateral and get right to the damage. Dragunov tells Melo to calm Trick as Dragunov does his best to be respectful. Respect? Trick ain’t looking for respect! Just watch where you throw that big-ass head of yours! Dragunov warns Trick that he still likes him, but he has to understand that if you come at him like a man, “I BREAK YOU!!”

Dragunov takes his leave, Melo asks what’s going on. Trick says they saw what happened. Melo did see but he’ll handle it on Sunday! Trick says it’s not about Melo, this is about Trick! And Dragunov pissed Trick off! Okay, okay, but they can’t be unprofessional. Lead by example! Melo wants professional? Cool. But Trick’s gonna call Dragunov’s punk ass out! Trick storms off and Melo sighs, will the heat die down so Melo can focus on GAB?

Gable Steveson is here!

He said last week that he would officially announce his decision for his wrestling future, and he is back on NXT to do that here! Gable gets in the ring, gets the mic, and fans cheer him on. Gable says, “Thank you to everyone in NXT. Many of you may not know who I am.” He smirks, that’s probably not true. But he still would like to introduce himself. He is Gable Steveson, and fans chant “U S A! U S A!” Gable thanks them for that, and says he is the 2022 Olympic Gold Medalist, and a two-time NCAA Champion. And next year, in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he could be the USA’s first-ever two-time Gold Medalist. Fans like the sound of that!

Gable thanks them again, and says he could go back to college to become a three-time NCAA Champion. Fans are less fired up about that. Gable says he could even make his choice right now. And that decision is- Wait, Baron Corbin steps on stage. Fans boo as Corbin wants Gable to be careful. What he says next could determine his entire future. So man to man, Corbin has some advice. He’s just trying to help Gable. Gable should go back to college and win another NCAA Championship. Go back to the Olympics and win another gold medal. Gable said it himself, he’d be the first ever two-time American gold medalist.

But just don’t come back to NXT. Because if he does, well, Corbin will make Gable do what he’s never done before: fail. Look where you are! This isn’t amateur wrestling! These ropes will show you who you are, this mat will humble you. These fans will make you question your entire existence! So much so that if you step back into this building, you will step to an Olympic Gold Medalist, and tell him that he doesn’t belong. For eight years, Corbin has done everything they’ve asked, towed the line, never stepped over it, but now he doesn’t care. Corbin understands Gable is a bad man, but this is a different game, and Gable will be swimming with sharks.

And right now, Gable is staring eye to eye with a Great White that is starving! And Corbin smells blood. Fans boo but Gable smiles. Gable tells Corbin, “You just made my decision that much easier. How about this? Me VS you in my first match, at the Great American Bash.” Corbin says okay, and then Gable GERMAN SUPLEXES him! And then BELLY2BELLY SUPLEXES him! Security rushes out as Corbin is furious, but the match is on! Will Gable start his NXT career by ruining Corbin’s NXT callback?

Dom helps Rhea prepare for her match.

That is to say, he lets her put a leg on his shoulder to stretch… But he asks her if she thinks it was really a good idea to go with a Triple Threat at the Bash. Yeah, because Mami is always right. Just like how she’s always on top, like she will be against Lyra. Be right back. Dom stays in the back to watch, will Mami be the one on top in tonight’s main event?

Kendo Stick Match: Cora Jade VS Dana Brooke w/ Kelani Jordan!

The Generation of Jade keeps telling everyone she’s special, she’s the best, and if they don’t agree, she hits them with her kendo stick. But now she won’t be the only one swinging around bamboo! Will the Flex Appeal humble Cora once and for all by giving her a taste of her own medicine? Or will Dana just end up Jaded?

But whoa, Dana takes the fight to Cora at the ramp! Dana dodges a kendo stick swing to RAM Cora into the apron and fire off fists! Dana pushes Cora into the ring, the bell rings, and Dana runs in to TACKLE Cora! Dana rains down fists, chases her out of the ring, and Kelani moves aside to Dana can RAM Cora into steel steps! Dana mocks Cora, eggs her on, and pats Cora on the head. Dana drags Cora up, brings her around the way and SMACKS her off the apron! Dana then TOSSES Cora over the desk! Booker and Vic almost don’t get outta the way in time! Dana then grabs herself a kendo stick and waits on Cora.

Cora rises up, Dana goes up onto the desk, but Cora trips her! Dana lands hard, and Cora laughs at her! Cora gets the stick, and she SMACKS Dana across the ribs! And then again! Cora drags Dana off the desk, SMACKS her off the apron, and then again! Cora SMACKS Dana again! Cora pushes Dana in the ring now, grabs herself a few more sticks, and puts those in the ring. Dana flounders to grab one, but Cora stands on it! To then SMACK Dana with another stick! Cora puts the sticks together in a little pile, then drags Dana up. Cora scoops to SLAM Dana on the sticks! Then she CHOKES Dana with one and stretches her back!

Fans rally and duel, Dana endures, and Dana powers her way up! Dana grabs the stick, and it’s a tug-o-war! Cora RAMS Dana into the corner and jams the stick in! Then she SMACKS Dana again! Cora stands Dana up, and uses the stick to trap Dana! SHINING WIZARD! And then the stick helps int he underhooks, but Dana RAMS Cora into the corner! Dana frees herself of the scarecrow position, Kelani rallies the fans, and Dana has the stick! Dana swings, misses, but keeps swinging! Cora kicks low, but Dana rocks Cora with forearms! Dana whips and CLOBBERS Cora! And again! Fans fire up as Dana goes corner to corner to handspring and ELBOW!

Dana then BULLDOGS but Cora slips out! Cora reels Dana in, FUTURE SHOCK!! Cover, TWO!?! Dana survives and shocks everyone! Cora is pulling at her hair in frustration, and she goes to the outside. Cora drags in a chair! Are those allowed in a kendo stick match? Well, technically it is a No Disqualification match so… Cora sits Dana in the chair, and then grabs a kendo stick. Cora tells Kelani to watch her teacher. Cora tells Dana to go back where she belongs. But then Kelani shouts at Cora! Cora swings on Kelani, misses, and Dana drop toeholds Cora into the chair! Both women are down and fans rally up again!

Dana grabs the chair, and JAMS Cora with it! Then SMACKS her on the back with it! Cora brought the chair in and now she’s paying for it! Dana sees Kelani and Kelani brings out a HOT PINK KENDO STICK! Dana SMACKS Cora with the Barbie stick over and over and over and over! Cora writhes, Dana blows her a kiss good night, and SMACKS her again! And again! And again and again and again! Cora is down in the corner, pieces of that pink stick broken off! Dana then puts the chair in the middle of the ring, fans rally for “NXT! NXT!” and Dana even adds kendo sticks to the chair. Cora crawls, but Dana brings her up.

Dana brings Cora over, suplex onto the sticks and chair!! Cora writhes but Dana goes up a corner! SWANTON BOMB!! Cover, Dana wins!

Winner: Dana Brooke, by pinfall

Cora didn’t just taste her own medicine, she got beat at her own game! Will Dana and Kelani be a dynamic duo that climbs to the top of NXT?

Melo talks with Dragunov again.

Melo tells Dragunov that Trick is not happy about that headbutt, accident or not. Dragunov says in that case, man to man, Melo knows what happened, right? Yeah, this is just about the two of them and the title at GAB. They don’t need to do this. Dragunov says he admires the friendship of Melo and Trick. But please, please tell Trick that if he wants to call Dragunov out, Dragunov will answer. Just know, Dragunov isn’t looking for a match. Well Trick isn’t looking for that, either! Good! It’ll be so much easier for them. If Trick sticks to this challenge, Dragunov will break Trick tonight. And then on Sunday, he breaks Melo.

Dragunov heads out, is he about to take down Trick Melo Gang all by himself?

Charlie Dempsey is “teaching” the prospects.

And that means putting one guy in a short arm scissor that really, really hurts. Drew Gulak says that’s good. Dempsey lets off and Gulak says these guys are all built for speed, not toughness. Hear that? resilience, tenacity! This is unacceptable! But then Damon Kemp says, “Hey! You looking for someone with toughness?” Yes! See, Miles, this is what Gulak is talking about. Kemp says if Gulak’s looking for someone with grit, then he’s looking for training partners that can push him. What do you say they work something out? Gulak and Dempsey say okay, they’ll see what he’s got. Sounds good. Did this dangerous duo just become a trio?

Tony D’Angelo & Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo VS Bronco Nima & Lucien Price!

The Don and his Underboss are ready for a tune-up so they can be sharp for Gallus, and the new kids on the block are looking to make a statement. Will Tony & Stacks be more than ready for Mark Coffey & Wolfgang? Or will Nima & Price make them pay the price for looking down on them?

NXT returns as Nima & Price make their entrance. And Scrypts is on commentary! Seems he is hanging around Nima & Price after they all set Axiom up for a beating last week. Anyway, the teams sort out and Nima starts against Stacks. The two tie up, Nima puts Stacks in the corner and digs his forearm sin. The ref counts, Nima lets off but then he puts Stacks up top. But then Stacks BOOTS! Stacks fires off forearms and chops, whips but Nima reverses to then CLOBBER Stacks! Tag to Price, he and Nima double whip to DUOBLE ELBOW! Then double stomp! Price covers, ONE!! Price rains down forearms, then runs, but Stacks avoids the stomp!

Stacks fires forearms, Price pushes and scoops but Stacks slips free! Stacks ELBOWS and UPPERCUTS! Tag to Tony, he and Stacks double whip to body shot and knee lift! Fans fire up but Price ROCKS Tony! Tony gets around to TACKLE Price, and he stomps away on Price’s stomach! Tony drags Price up, talks some trash, and gives Price hockey punches. But Tony and Nima talk trash, allowing Price to wrench and HOOK KICK! Tag to Nima and he and Price double whip. Kitchen sink knee to a JUMP STOMP! Nima says these are their streets now! Nima hauls Tony up but Tony fires hands and kicks!

Tony tags Stacks, they mug Nima, but Price runs in! Tony kicks Price, Stacks DROPKICKS Nima, and then Tony HALF HATCH SUPLEXES Price! Stacks runs in, HIP TOSS SENTON onto Price! HIP TOSS SENTON onto Nima! Fans fire up with the Family and Stacks covers, TWO! Nima hangs tough but Stacks wraps on a chinlock. Nima endures, fires body shots, and Price tags in. They whip Stacks, to ALLEY-OOP and GUT BUSTER! Nima kicks Stacks around, Price slithers like a snake and watches Stacks rise. Price runs in to LARIAT in the corner! Stacks falls, Price covers, TWO! Stacks hangs tough but Price keeps on him.

Price CHOKES Stacks on ropes, tags in Nima, and Nima STRADDLE ATTACKS! Fans boo as Nima adds on, and then Price gets a cheap shot in! Cover, TWO!! Nima whips Stacks hard into a corner, but Stacks BOOTS back! STacks FLYING UPPERCUTS and both men are down! Scrypts is frustrated for his guys, but then AXIOM JUMPS IN OUTTA NOWHERE!! Axiom goes after Scrypts, chases him into the ring, and Stacks KICKS Scrypts out! Axiom DIVES to take Scrypts out but Nima sneaks a tag. Stacks dodges Price, hot tag to Tony! The Don rallies on Price, dodges Nima and DECKS him!

Tony clinches Price BELLY2BELLY! Then another! Tony whips Price to SPINEBUSTER! But Nima stomps Tony down! Stacks DROPKICKS Nima, then pushes him out of the ring! Tony whips Price, he and Stacks hit BADA BOOM!! Cover, Tony & Stacks win!

Winners: Tony D’Angelo & Channing Lorenzo, by pinfall

The Family saw through the game plan and came out on top! But wait, Gallus is on the tron! They “congratulate” the Family on the win, but warn them not to expect the same on Sunday. If Tony has learned anything from dealing with Gallus, it’s that he shouldn’t get too comfortable. This could all change in the blink of an eye. If Tony thought being locked up was bad, just wait until the Gallus boys are through with them! Their freedom will amount to nothing, because when it comes to the tag titles, it is always and forever, GALLUS BOYS ON TOP! Will that be proven true at the Great American Bash? Or will Tony & Stacks just tell ’em FOGEDABOUTIT?

Dijak speaks.

“Eddy Thorpe. You survived NXT Underground, and now you’re walking around with your chest puffed out. What’s worse, tough guy, is you think that qualifies you for championship contention, which is why I made you taste the shoe leather. Slow your roll, kid. Because one win doesn’t prove anything to me, especially when I’m chasing the same gold. In that ring, I’m the law. A clear streak of justice. And I hand that down with great conviction and reckless abandon! That’s something you do not want, and cannot beat.” Will Hard Justice put the Alpha Wolf on lockdown?

NXT shares more of the Perez-Davenport incident.

Blair herself was vlogging, claiming she knew Roxie would lean on her “best friend,” Booker T. And Blair says she is calm, collected, vicious, and proved everyone why she- AND THEN ROXIE ATTACKED! Roxie knocked Blair to the floor, snatched Blair’s phone and says “This live is over.” Security cam footage, as well as phone footage from the cashier, caught the rest. Roxie SMACKED Blair all around the tables, bowled her through the tables, and dragged Blair back up to bring her towards the back. Blair turned things around to send Roxie into the freezers! Blair shouted, “You wanna play games, Roxanne?!”

Blair opened the freezer and brought Roxie over, but Roxie fought back! Roxie ROCKS Blair with forearms, Blair returns then, ands ends Roxie into the shelves! Roxie tumbled, Blair stomped her, and sent her into the wall! And then into more shelves! But Roxie got up, got a shopping cart and RAMMED it into Blair! And again! And again! Roxie says “Clean up on aisle three!” Roxie then threw Blair into crates, threw those crates at Blair, and shouted, “This is what you wanted?! This is what you wanted!? Get your ass up, Blair!” Roxie then SMACKED Blair with the fridge door!

Police sirens could be heard, and Roxie says this is want everyone wanted! This is just a taste of the Roxie Blair gets at the Bash. The Prodigy is showing she can be just as bad as the Number One Gaijin, and now the stakes have been raised! It will be WEAPONS WILD at the Great American Bash! Will Roxie give Blair more brutality than she ever wanted?

The Meta Four is in the ring.

And in her best Scottish Accent (which still isn’t the best), Lash Legend uses Noam Dar’s catchphrase, “Hello hello hello,” and she welcomes us to Supernova Sessions. Dar is still comatose as Oro Mensah says the guest tonight is NOT that idiot, Eddy Thorpe! It is the man that inspired The Meta Four to victory last week, NOAM DAR! They shake and hug Dar, and Jakara Jackson says they should cheer the REAL Heritage Cup Champion! Fans boo instead. But Lash says that is right, Dar is the REAL Heritage Cup Champion! Nathan Frazer thinks he can go around calling himself champion? No, you got another thing comin’, boo.

Because Meta Four did some research! Six weeks ago, Dar was set to defend HIS Heritage Cup. But unfortunately, he was not medically cleared. So of course, Oro stepped forth to defend his guy, his brother, Dar! Oro pushed Nathan to his limit, but Nathan is a snake, a criminal! And he STOLE the last fall and then ran away with the cup! Jakara says Nathan never beat Dar. To be the man, you must BEAT the man! And when it comes to the cup, Dar IS the man! So with that said, they finally found a way to fix this all! They tell Dar that they have a great surprise. Look, look! It’s the HERITAGE CUP! Dar blinks, rubs his eyes, and he revives! He falls out of the wheelchair and stands right up!

Dar almost can’t believe it! But this isn’t a dream, this is REAL! Dar hugs his baby and stands on the couch. Jakara says this is the UNDISPUTED NXT Heritage Cup, Noam Dar~! Fans boo as Dar holds up the cup and says “HELLO HELLO HELLO! HEAR ME NOW! LIVE FROM THE MOON! I AM YOUR SENSEI! I AM STILL THE STAR PLAYER! AND I AM STILL THE ONLY REAL CHAMPION THAT’S HERE! AND IT’S SO SWEEEET~!” But wait! Here comes Frazer!! Frazer asks Dragon Lee if he is going insane, or is he seeing double? Dragon is seeing it, too! Two Heritage Cups, two annoying women, and someone too delusional to see he is NOT a champion.

Dar says no no no no no. He didn’t lose the cup! This is what a real champion looks like! Thank you, buh-bye, get outta here! Frazer wants Dar to put on deodorant first. Just like that cup in the ring with Dar, Dar is a MASSIVE FRAUD. No no no, Frazer’s the fraud! That is all counterfeit! Get security! Frazer says Dar clearly recovered from whatever injury befell him six weeks ago, so how about this? They sort this out here and now! Oro says that’s good, there are four of the Meta Four, and only two of them! Tranquilo, tranquilo, tranquilo! What makes you think they came alone? Yuilsa Leon drags Jakara outta the ring!

Lash freaks out and Valentina Feroz gets in to RANA her out! Oro and Dar swing on Frazer & Dragon, but they DOUBLE SUPERKICK them out! And then DOUBLE TOPE!! Direct hit on the boys of Meta Four, and the Frazer Squad stands tall! But will the real Heritage Cup Champion be sorted out soon enough?

NXT checks in with Chase University.

Andre Chase says we are just five days away from history! Duke Hudson echoes “History!” Five days from Thea Hail becoming the YOUNGEST Women’s Champion of all time! “OF ALL TIME!” From Thea making Tiff tap out! Yeah, tap out that BIIII- WHOA! WHOA! But is Thea ready to train? Yes, sir! No, is she ready to train!? LET’S GOOOO~! And so the team steps into the gym. Chase says the recruitment started three years ago, when Thea started wrestling school at just 16 years old. And she’s blossomed into Chase U material. Her parents had to drive her to independent shows cuz she was still too young to drive. And when National Signing Day came around, and Thea put on their hat, Chase U was ecstatic.

Theta hits the bag with Tiff’s face on it, then rips the face off it! Duke says Thea IS the future NXT Women’s Champion. Duke is the Chase U MVP, he’s like her mentor, motivator, best friend even. He was there when she won her first match ever! Chase knows Thea may not be the biggest or strongest, but she’s got heart! And that heart is like a lion’s, with a spirit second to none. She can put that Kimura on anyone at anytime! The school jogs with Thea as she has her own Rocky Balboa moment. If Thea clamps on the Kimura Lock, she will be champion. Do not doubt Thea. You doubt her, she wins the battle royal. You doubt her, Gold Rush happens. And last week!

And if you doubt her at the Great American Bash, you will hear “AND NEW~!” Miracles don’t happen every day or else they wouldn’t be miracles. But Thea doesn’t need a miracle, she just needs a chance! And she has that chance to prove people wrong, and that is the most fun thing to do. Thea doesn’t think she can win, she KNOWS it! And she’ll become THE YOUNGEST Women’s Champion ever!! Then will Thea make history happen this Sunday in Texas?

NXT shares footage from after last week’s episode.

NXT Media kept with Los Lotharios as Angel Garza chased after Humberto Carrillo. Garza wants his cousin to talk to him already! What is going on!? They argue, and Humberto says to listen to HIM for once! What are they doing? Are they chasing women or glory!? Y’know what, Humberto is not doing this anymore. Not until Garza wakes up! Garza gets m ad and he punches the wall! Is Los Lotharios falling apart? Or will they both get serious about being a top tag team?

Rhea Ripley w/ Dominik Mysterio VS Lyra Valkyria!

With her Latino Heat by her side, Mami looks to eradicate the Morrigan in their first match-up ever. Will Rhea prove why she is the most dominant woman in WWE today? Or will Lyra shock the world by beating the most dominant woman in WWE today?

NXT returns and Lyra makes her entrance. The bell rings and the two stare down. Fans rally, the two circle, and they tie up. They go around, Rhea puts Lyra in a corner, and she talks trash on Lyra. Rhea dares Lyra to show her what she’s got, and she lets off. Lyra and Rhea circle again, tie up and Lyra headlocks. Rhea blocks the takeover, lifts Lyra and TOSSES her, but Lyra lands on her feet! Fans cheer, Rhea eggs Lyra on again and the two circle. They approach, Lyra gets around to waistlock but Rhea elbows free! Rhea headlocks and grinds Lyra, but Lyra powers up and out. Rhea runs Lyra over and fans cheer.

Rhea dusts herself off, looms over Lyra, and drags her up. Rhea grins, whips Lyra but Lyra ducks ‘n’ dodges and directs to trip Rhea up! Rhea lands hard, and Lyra steps all over her! Rhea gets mad now, and Lyra eggs Mami on. Fans duel, Rhea swings but Lyra dodge! Lyra flips through the hip toss, wheelbarrows to a victory roll, TWO! Rhea rushes in to kick low! Rhea is annoyed and she CLUBS Lyra. Rhea bumps Lyra off buckles, then stands her up to RAM into her! And again! And again! The ref counts, Rhea lets off, and she CHOPS Lyra down! Dom likes what he sees as Rhea stalks Lyra to a corner.

Rhea whips corner to corner, but Lyra goes up and over and keeps moving. Lyra slides under then tilt-o-whirls, to RANA Rhea away! Rhea staggers up but into a victory roll! Rhea blocks it, brings Lyra up in a wheelbarrow, and GERMAN SUPLEX! Fans fire up as Rhea DROPKICKS Lyra out! Lyra checks her chin, Rhea says this is WHY she’s the Women’s World Champion, and she gives Dom a little kiss on the head while NXT goes picture in picture.

Rhea goes out to fetch Lyra, but she tells the fans to “SUCK IT!” first. The ring count starts but Rhea SMACKS Lyra off the apron! Rhea drags Lyra up, brings her around, and she puts Lyra in the ring. Cover, TWO! Rhea drags Lyra around, and HIP DROPS her! Rhea stands over Lyra, brings her up, and HIP DROPS her again! Dom smirks as Rhea HIP DROPS, but onto knees! Dom stops smirking and Rhea hurries after Lyra, but Lyra HEADBUTTS! And fires off forearms! Lyra keeps after Rhea but Rhea kicks her low! Lyra goes to ropes and Rhea CHOKES her! The ref counts, Rhea lets off, and she soaks up the cheers and jeers.

Lyra goes to the apron, Rhea drags her up, but Lyra HOTSHOTS Rhea away! Lyra catches her breath on the outside while the ring count climbs, and she slides in, only for Rhea to stomp her! Rhea drags Lyra around and KICKS her on the back! Rhea stalks Lyra to ropes, stands her up, and NXT returns to single picture as Rhea shoves and ROCKS Lyra in the back! Rhea shoves Lyra to ropes again, to ROCK her in the back again! Rhea storms up on Lyra, brings her up and shoves her again, but Lyra blocks forearm to hook the arms! Rhea fights the backslide, turns it around but Lyra flips through! Rhea whips, but Lyra tilt-o-whirls again!

Rhea elbows Lyra to stop the rest of that, then SMASHES Lyra off her knee! Then hits an ATOMIC FACEBUSTER! Cover, TWO!! Lyra survives and Rhea is shocked! Dom cheers Rhea on, Rhea drags Lyra up and pump handles! RIP- NO, Lyra slips out to have a SLEEPER! But Rhea RAMS Lyra into buckles! Lyra holds on, but Rhea throws her away! Lyra comes back, into body scissors and HEADBUTT! Rhea glares at Lyra, drags her around, and then goes up the corner. Rhea looks to copy Latino Heat, but Lyra rises first! Lyra trips Rhea up! And shoves her down to the floor! Dom panics, Lyra builds speed, and Dom gets Rhea outta the way to take the DROPKICK!

Lyra then LEAPS to RANA Rhea away! Fans fire up as Lyra puts Rhea in the ring! Lyra hurries up top now, fans tell Dom “YOU DESERVE IT!” Lyra CROSSBODIES, but Rhea catches her! And pops Lyra up, but Lyra turns it to a SATELLITE DDT!! Lyra hurries up top again, fans fire up for the DIVING SPLASH!! Cover, TWO!! Rhea survives and Lyra is shocked! Dom has both belts in his hands, is he planning what it looks like he’s planning? Lyra storms up on Rhea to OSBAT, front kick, and HEADBUTT! “This is Awesome!” as Lyra ENZIGURIS! Rhea wobbles, Lyra gets in her face and gives some trash talk back!

Lyra KICKS Rhea around and around, and fires up with every shot! Lyra runs to dropkick a leg out! Rhea flounders, Lyra runs up, but Rhea ducks the heel kick! Rhea back suplexes but Lyra lands out of it! Lyra shoves, runs, but Rhea BOOTS her down! Pump handle, RIPTIDE!!! Cover, Rhea wins!!

Winner: Rhea Ripley, by pinfall

The Morrigan gave the Eradicator one hell of a fight, and almost had it, but she’s still not there yet. Even so, Rhea sits Lyra up, and tells her “Prove me right and beat Jacy Jayne.” Mami still respects Lyra, and Lyra says she’ll make her proud. Will the Toxic Traitor pay for riling up both Lyra and Rhea?

Trick Williams heads to gorilla.

He wants that fight with The Czar, but will he get it? We find out, after the break.

NXT returns and Trick is in the ring.

“Ilja Dragunov! This Sunday, Melo’s gonna take care o’ business like he always does. That means he’s gonna take your jersey, add it to his collection, and put it in the rafters. But tonight’s not about none of that. Tonight’s about me, you and this fight! So Dragunov, bring your ass out here!” Trick throws down the mic, and here comes Dragunov! Trick meets Dragunov at the ramp to CLOBBER him! And CLUB him, and CLUB him again! And send him into barriers! Fans chant ‘WHOOP THAT TRICK!” but for who? Trick fires off on Dragunov more and more, the fans torn on this, but Trick then scoops to SLAM Dragunov!

Trick talks trash, he looms over Dragunov, and he RAMS Dragunov into steel steps! Dragunov hobbles up, Trick leaps off the steps, but Dragunov ENZIGURIS him outta the sky! And then GERMAN SUPLEXES him! And again! And again! Trick flounders and Dragunov looms over him now. Dragunov puts Trick in the ring, fans duel, and Dragunov powers Trick to a corner. Dragunov MACHINE GUN CHOPS Trick until he sits down, and even then he still CHOPS! Dragunov tells Trick to stand up, and the CHOPS continue! Dragunov then TOSSES Trick, stalks him, and fans rally. Dragunov stands on Trick, but Trick grabs a foot!

Dragunov kicks free to then FALLING HAMMER!! Fans are torn as Dragunov aims from the corner! RUNNING HAMMER SMASH!! Dragunov isn’t done, he drags Trick up again, despite Trick being a ragdoll! Dragunov DUMPS Trick into a corner, stands him up, and says Trick wanted to fight! Dragunov goes to the far corner, “UN! BE! SIEG! BAR!!” Dragunov runs back in, but MELO takes the TORPEDO MOSCOW!! Melo saves his best friend from demise, and that seems to surprise Dragunov. But in the end, Dragunov has the title and the mic, and he tells Melo, “You are a man of honor. And loyalty is very rare nowadays.

“So hang onto your friendship with Trick. Because after The Great American Bash, he will be all you have left after I TAKE YOUR NXT CHAMPIONSHIP!!” The ultimatum has been sent, but will Dragunov win this ultimate battle with HIM?

My Thoughts:

A great episode for NXT, especially as a go-home. Great bookending of the night with the NXT Championship story, with the Six Man Tag opening. Great match, for one, and then those two Schism follower guys trip Dyad. Those two are clearly Julius & Brutus in disguise for a big reveal that they’re defying the Losers Leave NXT ruling. And then with the “misunderstanding” spot, they took that to a logical extreme where Trick is still mad and still wants to fight. Trick getting whooped was definitely the best way to close the go-home cuz no way was Trick whooping Dragunov. But with Dragunov standing tall, he is most likely to lose per go-home math rules. Which is fine, Melo is a great superstar and deserves to keep going, but I just wonder where Dragunov is to go next.

We saw where Bron is going next, and that is finally feuding with Von. Bron VS Von is going to be great stuff, especially now that they’ve swapped, Bron is the Heel and Von is the Face. And they are both second generation superstars, so they can play that up, too. Speaking of second generation superstars, Dom had a good promo with Rhea, Wes and Ali. And just as I was hoping, we’re getting a Triple Threat for the North American Championship for Great American Bash. This way, someone can win while all three parts still look strong. Personally, hoping Ali wins so he finally gets a title in WWE, but he or Wes can win by pinning the other, Dom loses the title and can complain he never got pinned for it, but then too bad, so sad, he moves on to another feud before getting a rematch.

And speaking of never being pinned to lose their championship, I’m glad they saw the story I did with Noam Dar! The Meta Four Sessions wasn’t the best way to start this but it did give the faction a platform to bring up how Oro lost the cup to Frazer, not Dar, and then they get Dar a replica cup to revive him. Great brawl between factions, with Frazer’s side standing tall. One, I want a 8 Person Mixed Tag, and then that will lead into two, the Undisputed Heritage Cup Championship match. That could go either way, as it is hard to say what Dar would do after “truly” losing the cup. But Frazer would be fine, cuz he could still hop into the NAC or top title scenes.

Great stuff from Tony & Stacks VS Nima & Price, and Scrypts did alright on commentary, but he was obviously just there for Axiom to go after. Axiom VS Scrypts one last time has to be coming, and that will be great stuff. Good win for Tony & Stacks to go into the tag title match, and good promo from Gallus on the tron. But I think with Tony & Stacks winning here, they’re going to fall short at GAB. And really good promo from Los Lotharios, I really like that Humberto is saying they should be a serious team and actually try for titles. Those two are great at all parts of pro-wrestling as they’re from a family of wrestlers, so those two really could be busting out amazing matches in NXT, and it’d be awesome to see them go up against Gallus.

Kemp joining up with Gulak & Dempsey is a nice surprise, and that trio feels like what Diamond Mine could’ve/should’ve been, would love to see them go for tag titles and the Heritage Cup at the same time. Really good promo from Tiffany, and great vignette from Chase U to really hype up Thea. Tiffany has only complained that this is a submission match now instead of preparing for a submission match, I wonder if she doesn’t so much win as gets disqualified and uses Champion’s Advantage to retain. At the same time, she could spam basic holds like the Boston Crab and somehow make that work.

Good promo from Dijak to call out Eddy Thorpe, they’re going to have a really good post-GAB match. So much hype for Gable Steveson’s “decision” when we knew he’d choose NXT. But it’s almost disappointing that Corbin is his first opponent. It almost feels like it should’ve been Kemp since they’re brothers in reality, and Kemp could blame Gable for why Thorpe won in NXT Underground. But Corbin is the most experienced guy on the roster, he needs something to do to keep his callback going, and I guess Corbin being fed to Gable is that thing.

Great Kendo Stick match out of Dana VS Cora, and Kelani ending up the distraction for Dana was a fitting move. It’s tricky for a mentor-student duo to be Face because such situations like this can happen and people question how they’re the Faces. But in this case, it was karma on Cora for always using cheap tactics. And likewise, Roxie brawling with Blair in that bodega, Roxie is still Face cuz this is karma on Blair for her sneak attacks. It was almost Stone Cold VS Booker T in the grocery store, and that was kinda fun, too. Weapons Wild for these two is going to be wild, and I cannot wait.

And great main event match out of Rhea VS Lyra, with Lyra really holding her own. Rhea wins, of course, but her encouraging Lyra to settle things with Jacy was a nice detail. It was both Rhea and WWE management showing that they see a lot of promise in Lyra. Assuming Thea doesn’t win at GAB, I would think Lyra is next up and she dethrones Tiffany. Lyra herself mentioned she got her start in NXT UK, and as far as I’m concerned, she’s been building herself up since then, none of this “NXT white ‘n’ gold is a clean slate for her” stuff. She should be seen as a contender, she should be a champ, and she will get there before the end of the year.

My Score: 8.8/10

Mitchell’s WWE SmackDown Results & Report! (4/26/24)

It’s Draft Day!

on

And with the first overall pick of the 2024 WWE Draft, SmackDown selects…

The WWE Draft returns for 2024, the first four rounds being right here on Friday Night SmackDown! With champions protected, who ends up where to challenge them?

OFFICIAL RESULTS

  • Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee w/ Zelina Vega & Carlito VS Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo; Rey & Dragon win.
  • Bron Breakker VS Cedric Alexander; Bron wins.
  • WWE Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Naomi VS Tiffany Stratton; No Contest.
  • Cody Rhodes VS Carmelo Hayes; Cody wins.

PLAY BY PLAY

Backstage interview with Paul Heyman.

Kayla Braxton is with the Wise Man and says that here on night one of the Draft, there are already rumors circulating, including those about The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns. Heyman will clarify these are not rumors regarding The Tribal Chief, Roman… Reigns. These are facts! Ladies and gentlemen, Your Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, has voluntarily withdrawn from eligibility for this year’s Draft. That is not a negative but a positive. Who built SmackDown since the Pandemic? Roman Reigns. Who is the biggest star in the entire industry? Roman Reigns. Why would Roman Reigns hog the number one draft pick spotlight when he won’t be returning in the immediate future?

Read into his words, Kayla, that is not what a real Tribal Chief would do. Instead now, the pressure is on Nick Aldis. Because if Roman Reigns isn’t the first draft pick, then who is? The first two picks make history in a brand new era. And Heyman doesn’t know about you, but he is intrigued. No Tribal Chief up for grabs, who gets their opportunity to shine in the spotlight?

SmackDown throws it to the NXT Performance Center.

Jackie Redmond says the emotion down here is palpable! There is excitement, hope, and a little bit of nerves. But for these NXT Superstars, tonight is the culmination of a lifetime of hard work, dedication, a little bit of luck and a whole lot of self-belief. It was just last year that the NEW WWE Tag Team Champion, Grayson Waller, was hoping his name would be called. And it is funny this is NXT, but time to buy a vowel, throw in an E! Who is next? We find out tonight! The draft pool is deep, who rises to the top of the list?

Corey Graves is in the ring.

Corey welcomes Cincinnati and all of us at home to night one of the 2024 WWE Draft. Understandably, the GMs have their hands full, so Corey will be moderating the contract signing for the WWE Championship match that takes place next Saturday for Backlash: France. Without further ado, it’s the #1 contender, The Phenomenal AJ Styles! Styles makes his entrance, taking a seat at the table on camera right. And now, the Undisputed WWE Champion, the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes! Cincy fires up and sings along, “WHOA~ OH~!” as Cody makes his entrance and gets his pyro before joining everyone in the ring.

Styles looks over the contract, absolutely tuning out the fans going wild for “CODY! CODY!” Styles then gets the mic to say before he signs, he doesn’t know if we realize that we’ve got two Georgia boys about to mix it up for the first time, and for the biggest prize in the game. Styles understands why they boo, but they gotta know that he doesn’t respect LA Knight, LA Knight got under his skin. He accepts that. But that’s why Styles lost at Mania. But what happened? Styles got his composure back and realized that he is Phenomenal. Styles BEAT Knight to earn the right to face Cody Rhodes at Backlash.

Now unlike Knight, Styles does respect Cody. They hadn’t crossed paths yet, but they’ve been down the same roads. They had to prove themselves outside of the WWE. And Styles is willing to believe that the same man who gave him advice a long time ago gave Cody the same advice, on how to stand on their own two feet and be the men they are today. That man was The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes. The fans cheer for “DUSTY! DUSTY!” Styles learned a lot from Dusty. Styles gets a little emotional thinking about Dusty, he was a good man. Dusty taught Styles how to carry himself, and to carry the weight of a championship.

And Styles looks at this WWE Championship here. The weight of this isn’t just the leather and gold. And at Backlash, we see if Cody can carry it. Styles goes back to his table, signs the contract, and then hands it off to Corey. Corey brings that to Cody, and Cody picks up his mic. “So… Cincinnati…! Whadda we wanna talk about? Certainly, we can talk about respect. There is not a locker room on Earth that you’ll find where everyone in it, every single person, they all respect AJ Styles. Last week, I went on to say you are the modern day Excellence of Execution. I respect the roads that you have traveled down to get here, the parallel paths that perhaps you and I have.

“Mutual respect, much respect. But that respect goes by the wayside at Backlash. I can feel it in your words to a degree. You’ve been here before. And it seems you’re implying that I cannot carry the weight of that championship. Well, good thing the man who trained me not far from where I sit now used to tell me all the time, it’s not about winning the title, it’s about keeping it.” The fans cheer that. Cody says boy does he respect Styles’ familiarity with Cody’s last name. But when you put C O D Y in front of it on this paper, that means they’ve never touched before. That means Backlash is a level playing field.

That means no matter how Phenomenal Styles is, this isn’t a dream match for Cody. It’s a must-win! Cody signs while the fans cheer, and it is official! Cody even throws the pen to the crowd as a free souvenir. Cody then offers a handshake, and Styles says y’know what? It was a beautiful thing to see Cody #FInishTheStory and win the title. But it’s a shame that Cody’s title reign will end at Backlash. Styles still shakes Cody’s hand, and then walks away. Cody picks up the belt and holds it high, will he get to hold it high again in Lyon, France?

Triple H is here!

Just as Cody was on his way to the back, The Game makes his way out here! HHH raises Cody’s hand, then invites him over to the podium. HHH welcomes us to the first round of the 2024 WWE Draft. It is a night that changes the landscape of the WWE going into the future, and things are a bit different this year. As the GMs ponder their next steps, they have to understand it is about protecting the roster they have as it is making the roster they want. Meaning that when they use their picks, they have just as much of a chance gaining a superstar as they do losing one they already have.

HHH just felt that since champs are protected and Cody will be staying here on SmackDown, maybe Cody could help read the SmackDown picks and HHH can read the Raw picks. And since SmackDown goes first, Cody reads first. Cody takes the card to say that with the first pick of the 2024 WWE Draft, SmackDown selects… The E S T, Bianca Belair! The stongEST, fastEST, roughEST, toughEST stays on Friday nights! HHH reads that for the second pick of the 2024 WWE Draft, Raw selects… YEET! JEY USO! Monday nights will still have Main Event Jey Uso! And the fans “YEET!” Cody says for the third pick, SmackDown selects… NXT’s Carmelo Hayes!

The fans fire up as SmackDown manages to snag… HIM! The former NXT Champion makes history again by being the first NXT superstar to be chosen this high in the Draft! HHH says that’s a hell of a pick. But then the fourth and final pick of this first round, Raw selects… SETH! FREAKIN’! ROLLINS! It is still going to be Monday Night Rollins as the Visionary stays on the red brand! Cody and HHH shake hands, and then Melo makes his way out! Melo has the mic to say when they talk about who’s next up, about who’s the hottest out, they don’t call them “the hottest out,” they just call him “Carmelo Hayes.”

The fans chant “WHOOP DAT TRICK!” to remind Melo how he’s leaving NXT. Melo says okay, okay. But then to Cody Rhodes, ever since Cody won the title, he’s been talking about “If you aim for the king, you best not miss.” Well, funny how that works. Because when Melo shoots, Melo don’t miss. And as a first round draft pick, what better way to shoot his shot on SmackDown than to shoot it right at Cody? Melo leaves the mic with Cody but Cody picks it up to say, “Fortune certainly favors the bold, but I dunno. You folks don’t wanna see me in action tonight, do ya?” The fans go wild! Oh, but what if Cody forgot his gear?

Oh that’s right! He didn’t forget his gear! And this title right here, for Cody, means absolutely 100%, Melo’s on! They shake on it, and we’re about to see a huge first-time-ever showdown! But will this bold first move work out for… HIM?

Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee w/ Zelina Vega & Carlito VS Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo!

The LWO is still not convinced Legado Del Fantasma had nothing to do with the beating that took the Boy Wonder out ahead of WrestleMania. Will the King of Lucha help get to the bottom of things? Or will Angel & “Berto” make it as easy as ABC, 1-2-3?

The teams sort out, Dragon runs up on Humberto but Humberto LARIATS him down! Humberto drags Dragon up, tears the shirt away and CHOPS! Humberto whips, Dragon ducks ‘n’ dodges to RANA! Humberto tumbles out, Dragon builds speed and FLIES! Direct hit and down goes Humberto! The fans fire up as Dragon pushes Humberto into the ring, goes up a corner, and then CROSSBODIES! Cover, TWO! Dragon facelocks to drag Humberto up, but Humberto wrenches out to CLUB Dragon down. Humberto waistlocks but Dragon throws elbows. Angel tags in as Humberto shoves Dragon. Dragon ducks but Angel holds ropes open, and Dragon tumbles to the floor!

The fans boo and LWO hurries to check on Dragon! Angel & Humberto just soak up the heat as SmackDown goes to break.

SmackDown returns and both Dragon and Humberto are down! They crawl, hot tags to Angel and Rey! The fans fire up as Rey ducks ‘n’ dodges and tilt-o-whirl RANAS! Angel ends up in a corner, he puts Rey on the apron, but Rey ROCKS Angel! Rey goes up to SEATED SENTON! Rey keeps moving, wrenches and kicks, then hops on! CODE RED! Cover, Humberto breaks it! The fans boo but Humberto hauls Rey up. Rey fights and RANAS Humberto up and out! But Angelo kicks, scoops, but Rey slips free! Angelo kicks low, reels REy in, and underhooks, but Rey fights those to RANA Angel onto ropes! Rey dials it up to 619!

Tag to Dragon and he takes aim! Angel stands, into the tilt-o-whirl, PROJECT DRAGON!! Cover, LWO wins!

Winners: Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee, by pinfall

Carlito and Zelina hug it out with the team, but then Santos Escobar & Elektra Lopez walk out here. Santos says whoa, whoa, whoa, hold that celebration. Because Santos is many things, but a liar is not one of them. And when Santos said he did NOT attack Dragon that night before Mania, he meant it. Elektra has been working for weeks to track down the security footage from that night. And Rey… Oh, Rey. What you’re about to see, you will find very, very interesting. The footage plays, and it was CARLITO!! Carlito throw Dragon around backstage! No one can believe it, because of how well Carlito fooled even Dragno.

Speaking of, Carlito RAMS Dragon into Rey, then hits a BACKSTABBER! Never has that move’s name been more fitting! Carlito runs away in a panic, and Rey stands back up in a rage! Santos says he told Rey that he was right all along. They were supposed to be family, and yet look how that turned out. How will the LWO recover from this shocking development?

Bron Breakker VS Cedric Alexander!

The Big Bad Booty Nephew has been making a case for himself ever since showing up on SmackDown, and he’s already bringing the straps down! Is he going to break PRIMED Alexander while also breaking match time records? Or will Cedric prove he’s too fly for Bron?

The bell rings and Cedric dodges Bron to CHOP and ROCK! Cedric whips, Bron reverses and Cedric handsprings, into a SPEAR!! Cover, Bron wins!

Winner: Bron Breakker, by pinfall

Well, hard to say if that’s an all-time fast match, but that was a fast match! QR Code stuff going on, but will we all see Bron take the world by storm?

Nick Aldis heads out.

And waiting is Tiffany Stratton. She asks if he saw what she did last week. Wait, of course he did. Because she is the Center of the Universe. She dropped Naomi and Bayley, where is her title match? Aldis tells Tiff to look at his watch. It is NOT set to #TiffyTime. And he was this close to sending her to the back of the line. But then someone convinced him otherwise, good for her. Tonight, she goes 1v1 with Naomi again, and the winner faces Bayley for the title at Backlash. Whose stupid idea was that?! Bayley says DING DONG, it was hers. It is a win-win situation here. If Naomi wins, she gets the match she got cheated out of.

And if Tiff wins, then she’ll find out when she attacks the Role Model. Tiff gasps as she has a #TiffanyEpiphany. Bayley should be ringside for that match so she can see Tiff do what Bayley couldn’t, and that’s beat Naomi. Tootles. Tiff leaves, but will the only thing she gets is to #FeelTheGlow?

Michelle McCool and Torrie Wilson are here!

One is a former WWE Women’s Champion, the other is a WWE Hall of Famer, but they’re both here to present Draft picks! Michelle says with the first pick of the second round, SmackDown selects… The Viper, Randy Orton! SmackDown will still have to watch out for an RKO outta nowhere! Torrie says that with the second pick of the second round, Raw selects… BRON BREAKKER! We just saw Bron make quick work of opponents here on SmackDown, but now he’s gonna be rampaging on Raw!

Michelle says that with the third pick of the second round, SmackDown selects… NIA JAX! The Irresistible Force may have to change targets from the Women’s World to the Undisputed Women’s title, but will she be unstoppable all the same? And with the fourth and final pick of this round, Raw selects… LIV MORGAN! The Revenge Tour will still be part of Monday nights, will we watch Liv rise to the top?

The Bloodline arrives backstage.

Paul Heyman is there to greet them and open the door to the SUV. He apologizes for not being faster about that, but Solo Sikoa asks The Bloodline if they’ve been drafted. Not yet. Then give Solo the details. Okay, well, Roman Reigns withdrew right before the show began, and then Solo keeps adding members, so no one really knows what they’re getting if they draft The Bloodline! Solo sighs, and here comes Tama Tonga. Heyman asks they be patient but Solo wants Heyman to repeat that for him. Heyman gets scared, but then KEVIN OWENS jumps in! Kevin fires off on Tama, security and refs rush in to stop it!

The Prizefighter wants Solo’s “MFT” to bring the fight like he did last week! Security still drags Kevin away, but will he get that fight he wants?

Kayla Braxton is on stage.

SmackDown returns and Kayla welcomes us back to the show. And please welcome out the first overall pick, Bianca Belair! The fans fire up as The EST walks out on stage, and Kayla congratulates her on being the first overall pick. But let’s talk Backlash. Breaking news, Bianca and Jade Cargill are going to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, against the Kabuki Warriors. How satisfying would it be to dethrone them on the stage of this magnitude? Bianca says so satisfying. She really hopes Jade gets drafted to SmackDown because given all this history with Damage CTRL, all the partners by her side, Bianca has never been the one to finally end it with them.

For everything they’ve done to her and this division, Bianca feels Jade is the perfect woman to help her end this. Now, DMG CTRL is falling apart piece by piece, and that final piece is the tag titles. So once Bianca & Jade take the gold at Backlash, the Kabuki Warriors won’t even have a reason to come back to SmackDown. But wait, they’re here now! Asuka & Kairi walk out here and Kayla moves aside. The Empress of Tomorrow and the Pirate Princess taunt the EST, but here comes The Storm! Jade makes her way to stand right by Bianca’s side. The four shout and argue, but this will be settled on May 4th!

WHOA! Tama and Kevin are brawling their way out here! The ladies move aside so the gentlemen can brawl all the way down to ringside! Tama hits low, gets in the ring, but Kevin pursues! Kevin TACKLES Tama, but Solo CLOBBERS Kevin! The fans boo as The Bloodline beats Kevin down! The refs hurry out here but clearly Solo’s Bloodline won’t listen! Tama DECKS producers, DECKS guards, HEADBUTTS them, throws hands and even THROWS the guards! Tama and Solo beat Kevin down again, but here comes Randy Orton! The Viper is still on SmackDown and he’s still pals with Kevin, so here he comes!

Orton DECKS Tama, fires hands on Solo, then RK- NO, Solo gets free and gets away! Orton wants to pursue, almost runs Jamie Noble and refs over to do it, but the Bloodline has gotten away! The fans cheer Randy on, and KAevin even hugs him! But then Kevin and Randy try to give chase! Security stops this, when and where will we see #RKKO strike down Solo and Tama?

The Dudley Boyz are here!

The fans fire up as Bubba Ray & D-Von are both here for the next round of picks! Cincy chants for “E C DUB! E C DUB!” Bubba and D-Von look at the cards, it’s hard to read. So out come the glasses! Bubba says with the first pick of the third round of the 2024 WWE Draft, SmackDown selects… L A KNIGHT! YEAH!! The Mega Star stays on Fridays! D-Von says with the second pick of the third round, Raw selects… RICOCHET! Mondays still has the One and Only, is Ricochet going to bring that WWE Speed Championship home to Raw, too?

Bubba says with the third pick of the third round, SmackDown selects… THE BLOODLINE! That means Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga and Paul Heyman are staying right here on Friday nights. And D-Von says with the final pick of this round, Raw selects… SHEAMUS! The Celtic Warrior just got back, but he won’t have to worry about going anywhere else but Monday nights.

WWE Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Naomi VS Tiffany Stratton!

It’s time to run it back once again! The Glow got robbed by the Spoiled Rich Girl, but supposedly, it’s #TiffyTime. Will Naomi prove there’s no such time on the clock? Or will Bayley be the one feeling the Backlash over giving Tiffany one more chance?

The bell rings and Naomi hits a THESZ PRESS! Naomi rains down fists, Tiffy shoves her away and goes to ropes, but Naomi gets up in Tiff’s face. Naomi whips, Tiff holds ropes to bail out and fans boo. Naomi scowls, runs in and WRECKS Tiff with a dropkick! Naomi then gets Tiff up, SMACKS her off the apron, and then SMACKS her off it again! And again! Naomi puts Tiff in, goes up a corner, but Tiff gets under the jump! Naomi runs back up but Tiff YANKS her into ropes! Tiff runs to HIP ATTACK! Naomi sputters, Tiff scowls and drags Naomi up, to then put through ropes. But Naomi RAMS into Tiff!

Naomi reels Tiff in, for a HEATSEEKER! Tiff flops to the floor, and then Naomi SPLIT LEG DROPS! Naomi says it’s #NaomiTime, but SmackDown goes to break.

SmackDown returns and Naomi runs, but into a SPINEBUSTER! High stack, TWO! Naomi survives and Tiff is frustrated but the fans rally up. Tiff drags Naomi up, whips her to a corner, but Naomi goes up and sunset flips! TWO! Tiff escapes, knees Naomi low, then whips. Naomi slides under the lariat to then mule kick! Then she headscissor SPIKES Tiff down! Cover, TWO! Tiff survives but barely, and Naomi keeps her cool. Naomi headlocks, but Tiff shoves her into buckles! Tiff runs, but Naomi follows, DOUBLE RUNNING FACEBUSTERS take them both down! The fans fire up as the two rise!

Naomi KICKS, ROCKS and ROCKS Tiff again! Naomi fires shots again and again but Tiff knees low! Tiff reels Naomi in, but Naomi wrenches out to ENZIGIRI! And then BUCKLE BULLDOG! But then NIA JAX attacks Bayley!? Nia SMACKS Bayley off buckles, rains down fists, and this momentarily distracts Naomi. Naomi refocuses, but by now, Tiff’s slipped away! Nia KICKS Bayley in the side, so Naomi goes out to ROCK her! Nia POSTS Naomi and that throws the match out!

No Contest

The fans boo as Nia ruins the fun, then runs Bayley over! Nia smiles as she blows kisses to Cincy. Tiff smiles, she drags Naomi up and puts her in the ring. Then she drags Bayley in! Tiff wants a repeat of last week as she puts them side by side in the drop zone! Tiff then goes up and up for the PRETTIEST MOONSAULT EVER!! Tiff says it’s her time, but the #1 contendership is still in question. Who gets their shot at the Role Model at Backlash?

B-Fab and the Street Profits meet up backstage.

Angelo Dawkins has a “WHO-DEY” sign, but Montez Ford is wondering where Bobby Lashley is right now. B-Fab says calm down, he’ll be here. Byron Saxton walks over and apologizes for interrupting. He doesn’t know what the Draft destination for this group will be until Monday Night Raw, but we do know that The Profits will challenge A-Town Down Under for the WWE Tag Team Championships. YESSIIIIIIR~! B-Fab says it doesn’t matter where they get drafted. The Profits are going to take down A-Town Down Under and take those titles. Then they’ll have their first class tickets right back to SmackDown.

SmackDown? Did someone say SmackDown~? In walk Austin Theory & Grayson Waller, showing off the titles. And Theory says you can’t have SmackDown without the GREATEST undefeated tag team of all time. And sorry, Dawkins, but these are championships, something the Bengals know nothing about! B-Fab keeps Dawkins back, but then in steps Bobby Lashley! The All Mighty scares Theory & Waller right off, and Dawkins says see y’all next Friday! Will there be nothing keeping these Profits down the night before Backlash?

The Final Testament speaks.

Karrion Kross says good evening. What’s going on here? You guessed it! More random acts of violence! Just follow him. Kross & Scarlett lead the way to show The Authors of Pain beating down New Catch Republic! Rezar beats down Pete Dunne while Akam victimizes Tyler Bate! Paul Ellering says they will know about sacrifice! Kross says whether they get drafted to Raw or stay on SmackDown, the violence will continue until they get what they want! So sayeth The Final Testament!!

Teddy Long and JBL are here!

The Hall of Famer General Manager and the Hall of Famer WWE Champion are both here, ready to give us the fourth and final round of picks tonight! Teddy gets right to it! The first pick of the fourth round, SmackDown selects… AJ STYLES! The Phenomenal One is really an obvious choice, because one way or another, the WWE Championship stays with SmackDown! JBL says the second pick of the fourth round, Raw selects… THE ALPHA ACADEMY! Raw keeps Chad Gable, Otis, Maxxine Dupri & Akira Tozawa, A THANK YEW~!

Teddy says with the third pick of this round, SmackDown selects… ANDRADE! A big move as now El Idolo will be part of Friday nights. And with the final pick of this fourth round, Raw selects… NXT’S Kiana James! The Calculator, the former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion, has the Raw hat to put on, and after a quick hype package, Jackie Redmond is there to interview her. Kiana, congratulations! You are heading to Monday Night Raw! How much does this mean to her? This means the world to her. She is filled with gratitude, but also knows every decision she has made up to this point has been by design to get her here.

Kiana is so proud of her time in NXT, but she’s ready to show Raw why she is the One Percent. Was she surprised? Of course she was! HBK is here to wish her luck and congratulations. Is Kiana going to start the hostile takeover of the Raw Women’s Division?

Backstage interview with Nick Aldis.

Kayla is with the SmackDown GM and says that with night one in the books, how does he feel about SmackDown’s selections? He feels really good about them. SmackDown’s future is bright, he can’t wait for the new recruits to show up and show out for the blue brand. But he also wants to turn attentions to Backlash, because he’s got some new matches to announce! The first PLE in France, this is exciting stuff, Kayla. Aldis says that the WWE Women’s Championship will now be on the line in a Triple Threat! Bayley VS Naomi VS Tiffany Stratton! Will the odds make it that much harder for the Role Model to succeed?

There’s one more match to announce, but Aldis will let the GM GOAT take it from here. Teddy Long steps in, and don’t forget. We’ll talk about this tag team match. The Bloodline VS Kevin Owens & Randy Orton! Holla, players. Solo & Tama will have to face The Viper and the Prizefighter, will #RKKO strike fast and strike hard?

Cody Rhodes VS Carmelo Hayes!

The American Nightmare just put pen to paper for his match with the Phenomenal One, but he isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. The former NXT Champion is shooting his shot, but will this be nothing but net? Or will it be a frustrating airball?

The bell rings and the two circle. They tie up, the fans rally for Cody as he puts Melo in a corner then arm-drags him away. Melo runs up, Cody headlocks, Melo powers out then drops. Melo hurdles, but Cody kicks low to RHODES UPPERCUT! Melo staggers to ropes, the fans fire up, but then melo throat chops and springboard FLYING LARIATS! Melo says that’s why he’s a first round pick! But then Cody CLOBBERS him! Cody asks if Melo’s ready for this, and SmackDown goes to break.

SmackDown returns once again and Cody has a headlock. Cody hits a takeover, Melo flails and kicks around, but Cody grinds him down. Melo pushes with his forearm, then headscissors, but Cody kips free. Melo CHOPS, the fans “WOO~!” but Cody brushes himself off. Melo pie faces Cody! Cody fires forearms on Melo, then whips, but Melo reverses. Melo ELBOWS Cody, then runs up to KICK him in the side! Melo fires forearms and CHOPS in a corner, then throws body shots. Melo digs his boot in, the ref counts, and Cody goes to another corner. Cody eggs Melo on, Melo storms up, but Cody puts him in the corner to CHOP!

Cody swings, Melo dodges and CHOPS! Cody turns things around to CHOP! The fans rally, Cody whips corner to corner, then he back drops Melo away! Melo staggers up, Cody runs, and he rallies on Melo with forearms! Cody goes up and over in a corner but Melo tilt-o-whirls, LA MYSTICA! Melo springboards, FADE AWAY! Cover, TWO! Cody survives that flying DDT, but we see the NXT roster all fired up watching Melo take it to the champ. Melo sits Cody up, drags him into a facelock, but the fans rally for Cody. Cody fireman’s carries but Melo slips free to dragon sleeper! Melo grins, but Cody cradles! TWO!!

Melo swings, Cody boots, then Cody springboards to BEAUTIFUL DISASTER! Melo flips inside-out, Cody covers, TWO! Melo is still in this and he snarls up at Cody. Melo gives a forearm, Cody gives it back, and the fans rally up. Cody scoops Melo, storms around, and then hits a RUNNING POWERSLAM! Cover, TWO! Melo survives and Cody grows frustrated. Cody pounds the mat, the fans rally up, and then Cody goes to ropes. Cody springboards again, CODY CUTTER! Cover, TWO!! Melo survives yet again, proving why he’s a former NXT Champion, on top of NXT North American Champion! But then Cody drags him up!

Cody back suplexes, Melo lands out of it, then FIRST 48! Doe goes Cody and Melo goes up! Melo is setting up for the game winner! NOTHING BUT- NO, Cody avoids the flying leg drop! Melo rolls through, Cody dodges to SUPERKICK! Cody brings Melo around, but Melo gets free! They both run, both springboard, but completely miss each other, and Cody takes a rough landing! Melo drags Cody up, reels him in, but Cody wrenches out to dragon sleeper! CROSS RHODES!! Cody shakes out the bad arm but still makes the cover, and Cody wins!

Winner: Cody Rhodes, by pinfall

Melo took his shot but it was blocked! Even so, Cody sits Melo up to show him respect and tell him he’s still the future. But did this match end up more of a trap game for Cody after that crash landing? Or will he be alright in time for Backlash and his phenomenal opponent?

Speaking of, Styles sneaks right into the ring! Cody sees him in time and Styles stays back. Cody and Styles stare down, but Styles says it was that close. Styles offers a handshake, and Cody takes it. There’s still respect here, for now. But will nothing stop Styles from turning Cody’s story into a tragedy after all?

My Thoughts:

A great SmackDown to open the WWE Draft but to also set up Backlash. To recap, SmackDown took Bianca, Melo, Orton, Nia, LA Knight, The Bloodline, Styles and Andrade while Raw took Jey, Rollins, Bron, Liv, Ricochet, Sheamus, The Alpha Academy, and Kiana. Many of those choices made sense, as picks won’t be wasted on keeping champions on brands, and just need to be used to keep most stories alive and change up a few others. Kiana is perhaps one of the more surprising moves, but well-deserved. She has been a solid character and solid in-ring performer almost from the start, she’s a solid addition to Raw.

Bron of course demolished his opponent tonight, it’s just a shame it was Cedric and not local enhancement talent. But Bron will also be a good addition to Raw, but maybe he can move past his squash match phase and get right to story. Melo being a first round pick was great stuff, and he had a great promo with Cody to give us tonight’s main event. That double springboard whiff was definitely a timing problem, but at the same time, a Fade Away countered into a Cody Cutter would’ve been way too epic just for TV. Cody with a great win, and we got a really good contract signing segment, but you can bet Cody retains.

Really good tag match from LWO VS Legado but naturally Rey & Dragon won. I knew it was only a matter of time before Carlito was outed, and how he handled being exposed was pretty good. And with Andrade being drafted to SmackDown, you just know that means Andrade joins the LWO. The Final Testament attacking New Catch Republic was a wild moment, I almost thought Ellering was going to use the pliers in his hands to grab at fingers. Maybe we get that next week for SmackDown in France. Good promos from A-Town Down Under and the still technically unnamed faction of Bobby Lashley’s. As great as The Profits are, it feels like Theory & Waller will cheat to retain.

Really good promo with Tiff and Bayley to set up Naomi VS Tiff round 3, but I did not think Nia Jax would disrupt all that. A Triple Threat at Backlash is good stuff, it will protect Bayley if she loses, but can also protect Naomi and Tiff if Bayley uses them against each other to win. Good promo from Bianca that then turned into the shouting match of Bianca & Jade with Kabuki Warriors. Their tag title match is official, and I’m pretty sure Bianca & Jade win. I also liked that this segment ended up having Kevin and Tama brawl right through it. Orton saving Kevin was a great move, RKKO VS Solo & Tama is going to be awesome stuff, I can’t wait to see it.

My Score: 8.8/10

Andrew’s TNA iMPACT! Results & Match Ratings: 4.25.2024

We just got done with Rebellion, and Under Siege is two weeks away! Gotta see how these dots connect!

Published

on

Rebellion had quite a few returns, Mike Santana, Sami Callihan and Broken Matt Hardy. All three of these guys could easily be main event players, and its nice to mix up and expand what felt like a rather small pool of potential challengers.

Under Siege is only like 2 weeks out, so we’ll see how the dots connect in such a short period of time.

Ratings:

  • Mike Santana vs Myron Reed w/Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz: Santana wins via Spin the Block – ** 1/2
  • #1 Contender: Frankie Kazarian vs Josh Alexander: Josh wins via Grapevine Ankle Lock – ***
  • ASH by Elegance vs Xia Brookside: Xia wins via School Girl Roll-Up – ** 3/4
  • Sami Callihan vs The Good Hands: Sami Callihan wins via Cactus Driver ’97 – SQUASH
  • Eddie Edwards w/Alisha Edwards & Brian Myers vs Nic Nemeth: Eddie wins via Boston Knee Party – *** 1/4

Results:

A weird opening that is just framed to put Nemeth and Hardy together against The System. Feels a little awkward, but who knows how it will play out.

Mike Santana vs Myron Reed w/Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz

Ahh I didn’t really pay attention to Santana’s theme at Rebellion, but its pretty damn cool. Good stuff.

Rascalz blindside Santana early, but the heel advantage doesn’t last more than a few moves. Santana whips Myron from corner to corner, hits a few Hip Attacks before Myron finally dodges one and starts using his unique offense and agility to his advantage. Matrix dodge, into an Leaping Outside Back in Slingshot Codebreaker. Some more offense and Santana powders to the ramp, Myron jumps over the rope and tries a Flying Cutter, but Santana blocks it, turns things around, gets pushed forward and hits the Rolling Cutter. Santana takes out the Rascalz, heads back into the ring, Myron tries to catch him unawares but eats the Spin the Block off the rope run! Santana wins fairly quickly.

Maclin’s music hits, he tries to employ the help of The Rascalz to attack Santana, but as soon as Maclin positions himself to get in, The Rascalz bail and flip off Maclin. Maclin makes it out of the confrontation relatively unscathed, but at least we know where he’s going for Under Siege probably.

OH FUCK ME WITH RUSTY KNIVES. Because Cardona is hurt Kon is paired with SDL, and she just challenges Jordynne and PCO to a tag match. WHY!? STOP IT. This is hot garbage.

Josh Alexander comes out…I wonder who’s Super Finisher he’s gonna conveniently kick out this time? Brian Myers? Frankie Kazarian? Rich Swann? Because yes, I’m still annoyed that Hammerstone has been in TNA for half a sandwich, he already connects with a Super version of his finish on tacks, and that’s not a finish. Oh Kaz’s music hits. Okay, so time for Josh to kick out of Fade to Black or Flux Capacitor. Kaz talks smack, says he won his match too so he should have a say in who’s number one contender. Josh challenges him, Kaz says not right now, but a referee runs out and says the match is official.

#1 Contender: Frankie Kazarian vs Josh Alexander

Kaz throws his jacket on Josh’s head, and attacks him with some strikes before Josh fights back and throws Kaz out. Commercial break, we see Kaz misses his Apron Guillotine, Josh goes for the Low Crossbody but Kaz dodges and Josh goes flying. Kaz starts throwing some chops and claws at the cauliflowered ears of Josh. Russian Leg Sweep from Kaz for a near fall. Josh swings wildly and Kaz ducks the strike and levels Josh with a Lariat.

Josh blocks a Vertical Suplex attempt, but Frankie pulls off a Fisherman’s Suplex after a few overhead strikes for a near fall. Josh stands up and connects with a straight right, rocks Kaz, Back Body Drop, into a Charging Forearm, Rolling Senton, 2 count! C4 Spike attempt countered into a Back Stabber and then Chicken Wing, but Josh fights it off, rolls through and into an Ankle Lock, Kaz kicks off and into a Head and Arm Cradle for a near fall and then the Guillotine Leg Drop into Slingshot DDT spot from Kaz for another 2 count!

Fade to Black, but its fought off, Big Boot but then Kaz counters the next move with a Power Slam into the Springboard Guillotine Leg Drop, but Josh grabs the Ankle Lock! Locomotion German Suplex time from Josh, Halfhatch Suplex after the Germans, floats over for a 2 count! C4 Spike attempt again, but Kaz fights it off, dumps him over the top rope, slingshots him in and into the Cutter for a near fall for Kaz! After the 2 Kaz grabs a chair and chain, the referee stops the chair of course, so he tries the chain, EY runs down and grabs the chain so Kaz pulls the Eddie Guerrero and the referee admonishes EY, but doesn’t DQ Josh. So as Kaz is busy laughing at EY, Josh picks the ankle, Ankle Lock with the Grapevine, Kaz taps.

ASH by Elegance vs Xia Brookside

Both are jawing at each other and then throw hands before Xia gets the upper hand with a Headscissors from the Top Turnbuckle, Charging Knees, a Flurry of Kicks, but when the ref forces some space in the corner, ASH is finally able to dodge and work over Xia with her Twisting Body Splash, a few choking moves, a corner Stomp into a Snap Suplex for 2. ASH is in charge elegantly, but the referee keeps forcing space on both of them when they go for corner attacks. Xia manages to take advantage a little, but ASH regains control, kicks Xia up the ramp and then lands her Cartwheel Back Elbow up the ramp. It actually looks pretty cool executed like that.

Headlocks and Hair Pulling to keep Xia down and using energy to kick out. ASH is getting frustrated but Xia is remaining persistent. ASH goes back to the Headlock, but Xia fights up, Jawbreaker, Back Elbow, Kick to the gut and Drop Toe Hold sends ASH face first into the middle buckle. Xia rips off 4 Double Knee Smashes to the back of ASH’s head into her Flying Crossbody for a close 2! Xia pulls her up, but ASH spins out, then Xia slips it, but ASH kicks her in the chest and deposits her to the outside and demands a count from the referee. Iceman puts Jeweled Knuckles/Rings on ASH’s hand, the referee catches her, removes the stuff from her fingers and Xia hits the School Girl Roll-Up for the flash win.

Sami Callihan vs The Good Hands

So the Good Hand Jobs are about to do their job to Sami. I’m just gonna assume Sami beats the hell out of both and wins with a Cactus Driver ’97. If anything interesting happens I might actually cover it, but come on now.

Kaz makes a Metallica reference with the “Wash Your Back So You Won’t Stab Mine”…and Sweet Amber is the only good song on St. Anger. So…I ain’t mad.

Eddie Edwards w/Alisha Edwards & Brian Myers vs Nic Nemeth

A little early ground wrestling and headlocks for control from both men. Nothing super flashy to start until we get to the rope run and Nemeth goes for the Flying Body Press to drop Eddie. Before Nemeth can follow up, Lish grabs his foot. Nic does have his brother Ryan in the crowd, trying to get chants going and do the old school ‘power up the babyface’ thing, but Eddie has been in control since Lish got involved. Simple offense, chokes, strikes, Snap Suplexes, Knee Drops, simple yet effective. But then Eddie ducks his head too early, Nemeth kicks him in the face, bounces his head off the buckles a few times, Dropkick sends Eddie reeling to the corner, Nemeth starts the 10 Count Punches but Myers hits the apron to distract and Eddie manages to slip the situation and push Nemeth to the floor.

Commercial break happens, Nemeth is trying to fight back with Chops, but a Kitchen Sink from Eddie puts Nemeth on the floor again! Clubbing blow from Eddie, but Eddie then misses the Hip Attack in the corner and Nemeth counters with the Rude Awakening into the 10 Count Rain of Elbows. Fame Ass-er miss, Eddie tries something but Nemeth turns it into that hesitation DDT for 2! Tuning up the band starts to build and Eddie powders to avoid it. Nemeth throws Eddie back in, goes to the top, but Eddie crotches him, rises up and hits the Superplex into Tiger Driver for 2! Eddie starts mocking with Tuning Up the band but Nemeth hits his own Superkick into an Olympic Slam for 2!

Both men just trade strikes Fighting Spirit style, Eddie says “Always Trust the System” and Nemeth shuts him up with a Headbutt. Danger Zone is blocked, Boston Knee Party gets ducked, they level each other with Lariats! Myers and Ryan Nemeth start fighting to distract the referee, Moose hits the ring and hits Nemeth with the belt. Eddie lands Boston Knee Party and The System wins again!

Overall Score: 6/10

A lame opening segment, a squash match, ASH by Elegance getting her first loss, and a weird way of just pulling the number one contender out of mid air makes for an awkward show. Also Kon still be involved in, literally anything, is negative. However, I can say there was a ton of stuff thrown at the wall this episode, so there’s a chance that some things landed better with other people than myself. The ballot segments were amusing, they overused the “I need to talk to you Santino” gimmick a bit much and personally I feel like having Jake versus Hammerstone is booking yourself into a weird corner.

But hey, the main event was fun, Nemeth getting laid out to the point that there could be a story reason to take him out of the Under Siege match. Kaz with the Metallica reference was pop worthy and I guess its a lot of ‘let’s see where it goes’ kind of angle creation. So it wasn’t complete trash, but its definitely a wait and see episode.
