Andrew’s Impact Wrestling Results & Match Ratings: 10.12.2023

Well last week was a very painful episode to sit through. Nothing really good happened, it felt like a giant filler episodes with lame matches and corny segments. But we’re 9 days away from Bound for Glory, so hopefully something cool happens.

I didn’t even want to look at the match rundown, because I really am hoping to be entertained and I don’t want to have any preconceived notions.

Results:

Tag Team Championships: Sami Callihan & Rich Swann vs The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz) (c)

Given the fact most of us know that Sami Callihan is a free agent, it’s safe to assume that these tapings were his last contracted dates and this is a stone cold loss for Sami and Rich.

Starting quick at the bell, Trey tries to seize the opportunity but eats Rich’s foot and Sami takes the tag and we get some working over Trey early on.  A few quick tags from Rich and Sami keep the heels on the receiving end and the crowd is into it so far. Wentz finally gets a blind tag, and Wentz makes Sami pay. A quick Rope Assisted Stunner, tandem kicks and strikes and Wentz just makes it look easy. Trey tags in, tries to continue the momentum but takes too long jawing and posturing, misses a Dive, gets rocked by Sami and Rich gets a hot tag and starts taking out both Rascalz.

Beautiful combinations from Rich, including a Frankensteiner that launches Trey into Wentz, and then punctuates things with two big Sentons. Took too long pandering with the fans, the Rascalz block a High Risk shot from Rich and lay him out for a 2 count. Commercial break comes in right after Wentz hits a nice Crossbody Dive. When picture comes back, Trey is in control but Rich seems to be trying to find an angle, but a Grounded Octopus Stretch keeps Rich on the receiving end and looking like he lost his burst of energy. Trey then tags in Wentz, Rich tries to fight back, Wentz blocks a few early attempts but the Busaiku Knee from Rich finally gives Sami the chance to tag.

Callihan has Chokeslams for both Rascalz, but merely a near fall. Stereo corner spot with 10 Count Punches that get face bites on number 10. Rich and Sami try the Irish Whip, mixed reverses so Sami and Wentz dosido, lay into the corner, then meet each other with flying Lariat/Bulldog combos, so everyone is down. Rich and Trey fight back and forth, Trey hits a combination, tags in Wentz, Street Sweeper combo move! But only for 2. Trey tries to use the belt to distract the referee and then Spray Paint Rich, but Rich ducks and Trey sprays Wentz. Rich and Sami hit the assist Cactus Driver, but Wentz kicks out! Callihan calls for 1 more, Trey picks Rich’s foot, Wentz hits a Low Blow, tags in Trey and executes Hot Fire Flame to retain.

Bound for Glory Gauntlet Seeding Match: Eric Young vs Champagne Singh vs Jordynne Grace vs Dirty Dango w/Alpha Bravo vs Jake Something

Everyone except Singh got their entrance music played, so that tells you who’s probably eating the pin. But for any who don’t know, Winner gets the #20 spot in the gauntlet, person who gets pinned gets the #1 spot. 

All the men tie up early which leaves Jordynne looking for a chance. She plays nice with Eric and Jake, they celebrate a bit until Jordynne tries to put one over on the other two, but EY and Jake hit a Double Shoulder Tackle which forces Jordynne to powder. So we get a little EY and Jake one on one. Mostly simple corner moves from Irish Whips, strikes and bouncing the face off the turnbuckles, so nothing crazy, just two dudes throwing hands. EY does the Flair Flop and it actually works for him because he manages to get some space on Jake and land the top rope Lariat before Singh and Dango jump them. Jordynne again is picking at two people and it backfires.

Dango and SIngh start working over Jordynne a little, EY slides in to try and even things up but they throw EY to the outside for a little and team up against Jordynne. Singh and Dango’s teamwork is a bit of “Anything you can do, I can do better”, so the competitive stupidity gives Jordynne a small reprive as Jake rolls in and lands a few Thesz Press spots before getting double teamed; Jordynne is fighting out of the corner, but the team up is keeping her down.  So to be a bit reductive, the heels are guarding the ring from the babyfaces and beating up on the girl. Classic heel stuff. Dango gets too comfortable in the alliance, tells Singh to hold her while he goes to the top, and Singh crotches Dango. So with the two idiot heels not working together anymore, Jordynne is laying into both. Juggernaut Jackhammer on Singh, but Dango breaks up the pin.

Jake slides back in and starts beating the hell out of Dango, Kneeling Powerbomb from Something, Singh disposes of Jake and tries to steal the pinfall, but Dango kicks out. Jake with a Haymaker to drop Singh, Jake hits the top rope, Singh blocks him, goes up for a Superplex, but Jordynne assists with the Powerbomb. Jordynne looks for a pinall, but Dango hits the Last Dance Guillotine Leg Drop to break the pinfall. EY Macho Man Elbow on Dango, for another 2 since Bravo pulls EY out. EY drops Bravo, but then Singh attacks from the blindside.

Wait…VLADIMIR KOZLOV! He takes out Champagne and EY, then gets on the apron and stares down Jake. Dango shoves Jake into Kozlov, Kozlov connects on a headbutt. Scorpion Death Drop, and Dango wins! Jake will be #1, Dango will be #20 with his new henchman!

Courtney Rush w/JesSICKa  vs Tasha Steelz w/Deonna Purrazzo

One of the few times I’m completely in Tasha’s corner for this match. I can’t stand the Death Dollz gimmick with both Courtney and Jessika doing their dumb retro day glow weirdos gimmick. I miss the supernatural crazy crap. Death Dollz just feel super “indie-riffic” right now, and I hate it.

Early stuff is a lot of lame close quarters just roughing up. Nothing high risk or really “wrestling” oriented. Deonna does distract Courtney and allows Tasha to avoid a move and land a Super Kick. Three Amigos gets executed from Tasha and then she…twerks in Jessika’s direction. Tasha tries to continue the twerking but Courtney attacks, a few forearms and punches before Tasha kicks Courtney out of the ring. Jessika follows her partner over to detract Deonna from interfering, its effective, so when they’re both in, Tasha and Courtney drop each other.

Courtney puts her hand toward Jessika and Jess tells her its not a tag match, but then goes on a tear. Lariats, punches, Jessika’s version of the Flip Flop and Fly, Courtney sinks in a Sharpshooter, but Tasha gets to the ropes. Courtney tries to pull her off the ropes, Tasha turns it into a Codebreaker, but only a 2. Steelz misses in the corner, then Courtney also misses, Okurrr Cutter on the recoil and Tasha wins.

Not worth the time I wasted watching this.

Killer Impact Match: Eddie Edwards vs Frankie Kazarian

First finish is pinfall, second is submission, third if needed is Last Man Standing. 

They get in each other’s face at the bell, Kaz starts peppering in jabs, short strikes and ducks in and out of the ropes landing the Leg Drop on Eddie very quickly. Thumb to the eye evens things from Eddie, Back Body Drop also keeps Eddie in charge. Kaz tries to fight out from underneath, but Eddie is being calculated. Scoop Slam gives Kaz some life, but it takes him too long to attempt the Springboard Leg Drop, Eddie moves and connects with the Boston Knee Party! First fall goes to Eddie!

Eddie is big brothering Kaz as the second fall starts. Mouthing off, scraping his boot on Kaz’s face, and just generally smothering Kaz while making sure all of his offense is slow and deliberate. Commercial Break to see Kaz slipping a Suplex and trying to grab a desperate Chicken Wing, but Eddie blocks, fights towards the ropes and flips Kaz over the top, sending his face careening off the apron. Eddie’s Noah Chops have actually busted open Kaz. So Eddie is having fun chopping the chest and then rubbing Kaz’s own blood in his face. Kaz is getting ping ponged off of everything on the outside. The Chops send him falling into tables, posts, guardrails, Kaz looks destroyed. Eddie rolls in Kaz, takes a little time to enjoy his domination, tries to lift Kaz up, and Kaz fires out of nowhere. Kaz rocks Eddie and tries to sink in some kind of wrist capture Leg Triangle, but Eddie gets out of it. Avalanche Codebreaker sends Frankie crashing to the mat, and a Single Legged Crab forces Kaz to the ropes. Eddie perches Kaz, Enzuigiri, Backpack Stunner! Eddie poses a little after his domination, Kaz sits up like the Undertaker and applies the Chicken Wing. Eddie taps quickly to not take too much damage, but now its Last Man Standing.

Fall starts, Kaz rushes Eddie, Eddie spills out, Frankie flies over the top rope to hit and Inside Out Frankensteiner on Eddie. Kaz definitely looks worse for wear, but Eddie is the one eating the offense right now. Kaz looks under the ring for weapons. The Heavy Metal Rebel really living up to the metal aspect. Trash can to the skull reminds me it is indeed trash day, so I should take that out after the show. But Frankie continues to  light up Eddie, and it looks like Eddie might’ve gotten some color himself.

About 5 shots and then after Eddie falls down, Kaz goes nuts and hits Eddie a dozen or so more times with the trash can. Eddie gets up, Kaz charges him, but Eddie hits the Release German into an attendant at ringside! Kaz manages to get up at 7, Eddie with a few punches and a Belly to Belly Suplex really slows things down to make it seem like Eddie is back in charge. Kaz tries to fight back, but eats another Belly to Belly. Eddie slides Kaz back in, tells him to stay down. Eddie slowly moves up, grabs the ropes and is trying to figure his next move, but Kaz hits the Slingshot Cutter to give Kaz a glimmer of hope. Kaz finds a few baking sheets and a table, so it looks like the crowd will get their table! Kaz sets up the table, charges Eddie, but a Hip Toss into the Stairs gives Eddie the advantage.

Eddie was looking Tiger Driver on the Stairs, but Kaz blocks and hits the Killswitch on the stairs instead! Kaz drags Eddie up, ignoring the count, another baking sheet head shot, puts Eddie on the table and heads to the top rope. Alisha comes from the crowd with a Kendo Stick and beats the hell out of Kaz so he can’t execute the move. Kaz is bent over on the top rope, Eddie piles a few chairs, Superplex into a pile of chairs from Eddie! Eddie gets up first and hits him with a chair instead of trying to just get a 10 count. He throws Kaz out and sets up another table. Eddie moves Kaz to the top of the ramp, but Kaz hits a Low Blow and then a Styles Clash on the ramp!

Kaz turns his attention to Lish, Lisha tries her Apron Run DDT, but Kaz catches her, stops the DDT and runs her through a table! Eddie is trying to lay into Kaz but also trying to instruct security to grab his wife. So with Eddie partially distracted, Frankie gets Eddie up, Fade to Black through the table! Kaz barely gets up right at the 10 count and Eddie is out cold. This better finally be over!

Overall Score: 7/10

Hey the matches were better than last week and generally pretty good aside from Tasha and Courtney, the segments were better, Kozlov appearing as Dango’s new henchman is great and the end to the Eddie versus Kaz saga; all generally good things! KiLynn being the one who took out Taylor is a surprise to no one, Kenny King making tons of points and Steve cutting all ties from his previous incarnation is very cool to see. I really want to see Crazzy Steve get a little love, he definitely deserves a singles push.

All in all, this show was mostly devoid of the “main title” pictures aside from a small touch with the NEVER 6 Man challenge and drama that could spin from it. So I like the fact this episode worked well without needing to use the main stories as a crutch. Hopefully this leads to a good Go Home next week and a kick ass Bound for Glory!
