Two good shows in a row! Can we make it three?
Okay, two shows in a row. Genesis and AMC #2 were really good. Now I’m a lifelong Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Capitals and have been a fan of TNA since 2004. So…sufficed to say, I’m never comfortable with a winning streak. Two is fine a good start, three is a streak…but I’m…pensive, pensive is a word.
The System will kick things off and I think that’s a good start. Start off with the heels holding court.
Curious where things go. Do we start a streak or slam into a wall?

The System comes out to kick things off. New Music, Eddie shaved his head, and the crowd is reacting correctly. Even Myers has a different posture and is selling heel better than I think he’s ever done. Lish comes out to no music, says her contract’s coming up. Eddie tries to convince her to stay with The System, but she tells him to kiss her ass and walks off.
All in all, solid, they validated their turn, the crowd hated them and popped hard for Lish. Even if some people don’t like her accent or the fact her “Do You Wanna Know Something” is purposefully annoying, she’s a good talker. I just hope she’s not a slow burn turn to screw Moose when he thinks she’s on his side.
BDE vs Nic Nemeth
Nic is outwrestling BDE early, showing off and not taking things seriously. Which makes sense, even commentary said this is only BDE’s 25th match. BDE gets a luck forearm, knocks Nic out of the ring, Suicida, throws Nic into the ring and tries his Oscutter but misses everything as we go to commercial.
We come back, standing Elbow Drop from Nic and a cocky cover gets two. So Nic goes out of the ring to talk smack to the crowd and taunts. Getting back in, BDE tries an Inside Cradle but Nic kicks out and then Uppercuts BDE. He locks in the Sleeper Hold, and the crowd is trying to rally BDE. BDE back to his feet, strike exchange, and then Nic throttles him along the middle rope. Nic continues to just taunt, big brother and take nothing seriously. Nic does his little hip swivel and another Standing Elbow Drop. BDE tries to fight back but Nic drops him.
Irish Whip, BDE gets bounced out of the ring, Nic stands on BDE’s face and then runs his wrist tape across BDE face, claws the face and another Irish Whip. Nic blows his nose down onto BDE and it’s just taking his frustrations out on BDE but a third Irish Whip attempt is reversed! Nic goes sternum first and BDE gets a hope spot. BDE misses his Knee Lift, Nic lariats him and ground and pound…but Nic is still playing with his food.
BDE blocks a strike, slaps Nic, connects with the Busaiku Knee and a Frog Splash…for very nearly three. Oscutter…countered into Danger Zone for the win. A little sloppy of a finish, but effective.
Ryan comes out, puts over his BIG BROTHER, says some sus stuff like “Go get a hot shower started and I’ll join you in a minute”. He’s such a great doofus heel. He calls out Mara because of their beef, and I’m not mad. Ryan is entertaining and Mara is drop dead gorgeous.
He wants Mara to admit he’s better than her. Mara refutes his claim, he’s playing in delulu land where he thinks she’s into him. So she can give him a kiss if she wants. She shakes his hand, rattles off a few nice right hands, tries the Superkick but Ryan catches it, puts her foot down, tries to play nice, but Lariats her head off. The crowd is reacting very well.
Stacks w/Arianna Grace vs Home Town Man
Stacks insults HTM, so HTM fires, works Stacks into the corner, 10 Count Punches, Stacks powders and as HTM plays to the crowd, Stacks attacks him…but HTM reverses, gives a kid a HTM mask, the crowd loves it. Stacks tries to turn things around after a Backdrop, but HTM dodges, tries something but eats a Spinning Euro Upper.
Stacks gets a Half Boston Crab in, and HTM gets to the ropes and the crowd is really there for HTM. HTM kicks Stacks off of him, Stacks oversells it like a moron, HTM slingshots him in, Lariats, Scoop Slam, Home Town Elbow. Arianna keeps refusing to help Stacks, so HTM is building momentum as Stacks keeps pleading with Arianna. Arianna takes the title belt away from Stack, Splash, Bulldog…but Stacks turns it around, Schoolboy with feet on the ropes. Arianna didn’t stop it because she was facing away from him after she took the title belt back.
Stacks lies to Arianna that he won clean. Maybe…there’s more to Arianna’s apology last week?

Jason Hotch w/Order 4 vs Elijah
At the bell, Elijah Big Boot rocks Hotch, a one armed Guerilla Press with his surgically repaired arm. Hotch powder, Elijah follows, but keeps control. Hotch retreats back in and Elijah stays in control doing the Old School/Prayer Walk for two. Hotch powders, tries to walk away from the match. Elijah grabs him, throws him back in, the rest of Order 4 get in Elijah’s face and Hotch with the Tope con Hilo to take control.
Ali takes a cheap shot, Elijah gets pissed and turns Hotch inside out and then a Mile High Back Body Drop gives Elijah the control. A few combinations punches, Elijah grabs Hotch, Order 4 distract the ref, they go after Elijah’s bad arm, and Hotch continues to offense on the arm with Knees into a Key Lock. Elijah fires, throws Hotch into the corner, Chops, Kicks and a big a pop. Final Cut, for…only 2.
Elijah tries his finish, Hotch slips it, Enzuigiri, into the Rolling Neckbreaker. Elijah catches Hotch out of the roll, but his arm gives out. Hotch turns it into a Torture Rack Bomb for two. Strike Exchange, Hotch pulls off the Nigel McGuinness rewind Discus Forearm. A little more back and forth, Hotch tries a High Risk move, Elijah connects with the Knee Lift into the Highwayman’s Farewell, and Elijah wins.
Order 4 beatdown ensues. Ali wanted to send a message with another guitar shot, but Elijah turns it around, nearly nails Ali, but he bails unscathed.
Elayna Black vs Ruthie Jay
You know, when she was Cora Jade, her finish was Jaded. If it’s now called Blacked…that will make me like her slightly.
Cocky and arrogant start since it’s an enhancement match. Gutwrench Suplex, Low Springboard Stomp, headlock…simple stuff to show off Elayna’s moveset but nothing special. Ruthie Up and Overs, Splash, Sideways Body Attack, Ruthie then calls out to the crowd and Cor-Elayna, slaps her, throttles her in the ropes, whips her into the ring, Flying Knee, Jaded.
Feast or Fired Case Reveal: Trey = International, Eddie = World, Steve Maclin = Fired , Eric Young = X Division
The briefcases have been opened!@TheTreyMiguel earns a shot at the TNA International Championship, @TheEddieEdwards is headed for the TNA World Championship, @TheEricYoung secures an opportunity at the X Division Championship… and @stevemaclin is FIRED.#TNAiMPACT pic.twitter.com/cIolrDZkj2

TNA really doesn’t know how to keep people they build well. Hendry, Jordynne, Bobby Roode, AJ Styles, Josh Alexander, Mike Bailey, Ace Austin, Samoa Joe, The Rascalz…and now Maclin. Good for Maclin if he’s taking a bigger payday in WWE or time off to start a family with Deonna. But if this was just TNA being too cheap to keep some consistency…I’m gonna be angry.
No Holds Barred: AJ Francis vs Rich Swann
Swanny does the Dreamer special of grabbing a trash can and pulling out a bat and going to town on AJ at the bell. Rich wants the table, but AJ levels him and then puts the table away. Good heel move since the crowd always wants tables. AJ tries the Down Payment, Rich counters, throws AJ into the steps and pulls out the table to a nice pop. Solid simple psychology.
Fighting up the ramp, Trouble in Paradise from Rich. Rich wants the Canadian Destroyer but AJ stops it, jockeying back and forth, AJ wants the Styles Clash, but Rich counters, so AJ hits a Pedigree into the ramp. AJ bounces Rich off and around the posts, he looks for another weapon, finds a baking sheet but eats a Superkick. Rich uses the cookie sheet himself a few times. AJ gets bounced off the post, but we head to commercial.
AJ was in control, Rich catches him with a few kicks, goes up to fly and then AJ actually catches Rich and hits an Air Raid Crash for two. AJ grabs some steps, Rich counters it, stomps AJ’s face into the steps and then Lethal Injection for two! Swanny gets a second table as the crowd pees themselves in joy. Back and forth, Frankensteiner from Rich sends AJ through both tables.
Swann goes to the top, Phoenix Splash! 1-2-KICK OUT! Swann grabs the bat, AJ sandbags in the corner because he wrapped a chain around his fist and punches Rich in the face. 1-2-KICK! AJ puts a trash can over Rich and starts beating the hell out of him with a chair. Rich kicks out of the pinfall. AJ goozles, wants an Avalanche Down Payment, but Rich snaps off a Frankensteiner, CONCHAIRTOS, Frog Splash into the chairs on AJ, RICH wins!
Overall Score: 7/10
Consistency in storytelling from last week, solid matches and the fact that Hannifan had what felt like a shoot reaction to Maclin getting the fired briefcase, made a lot of things enjoyable about the show. BDE had a better match than he should’ve so early in his career. Nic gave him a lot, and that helped him look good. Sloppy finish doesn’t take away too much from the genuinely solid match. Arianna not being all crocodile tears and shenanigans is kind of nice, Elijah getting an ally and Rich probably ending AJ’s run in the company, all make sense. Elayna had a chance to show off her moveset and look…okay, it was an enhancement match and she has no personality. Being hot is not a personality. Lei Ying Lee, Xia Brookside and Indi Hartwell going against the Elegance Brand is fine. I don’t care for Indi because she also has no personality, but crowds love her and she’s nice to look at. Her wrestling is as stiff as her personality sometimes, but I suppose there are worse choices since Dani isn’t available because of Visa issues.
Pretty sure I said it last week that I expected Maclin to get the Fired case because LOLTNA can’t hold on to anyone that crests above a B+ Player. So if Santana stays as hot as he is now, he’s prolly gone whenever his contract is up too. TNA’s issues the last decade have been that they can’t keep talent around. Someone needs to open up the piggy bank a little wider. You just got hopefully decent money with the AMC deal, and you’re letting established talent bounce and trying to patchwork with Indie guys and whatever’s left. Figure it out.
But aside from my general disdain for TNA management not being able to retain talent since the Destination America era, the show was actually pretty good. That’s 3 in a row…oh no…we’re not allowed to have hope. Claire Lynch 2.0 incoming!
