Kairi Sane’s Surprise WWE Release Sparks Questions Over Timing and Planning
Kairi Sane’s shock release on Friday stunned fans and colleagues alike after she had just scored a singles victory over IYO SKY on the April 13 Raw and appeared positioned for a prolonged program with Asuka. Peers including IYO SKY and Bayley publicly expressed disbelief, and parallels to Aleister Black’s recent departure — both leaving after recent wins — suggest the decision was either made at the last minute or WWE had not planned exits into ongoing storylines.
Dave Meltzer reports the cuts are largely personnel decisions driven by Paul “Triple H” Levesque with input from Nick Khan rather than directives from TKO, and may be tied to roster salary management. Sane is expected to be highly sought after by other promotions — from AEW to Stardom — and while her release is a blow to WWE’s creative depth, it likely opens multiple opportunities for the performer.
