Kenny Omega Names Favorite NJPW Rivalries, Praises Golden Lovers Storytelling
As he begins a new rivalry in AEW, Kenny Omega told the Battleground Podcast that while many fans point to his series with Kazuchika Okada, he considers his matches with Tetsuya Naito and Tomohiro Ishii among his favorites from his New Japan run. Omega emphasized the different flavors of those programs and how they resonated with long-time NJPW viewers.
Omega also reflected proudly on the decade-spanning Golden Lovers story with Kota Ibushi, saying he and Ibushi carried the emotional through-line across multiple promotions and took responsibility for pacing and payoff. He stressed that their goal was to respect fans’ intelligence and show that personal relationships and narratives can survive promotion changes until reaching a fitting finale.
