Nigel McGuinness to Face Josh Woods in Pure Rules Match at ROH Supercard of Honor

Nigel McGuinness has accepted Josh Woods’ open challenge and will return to the ring at ROH Supercard of Honor on Friday, May 15 in Salisbury, Maryland, meeting Woods in a first-time Pure Rules matchup. In a social media clip McGuinness made clear the bout is a direct shot at Pure Champion Lee Moriarty — if he can’t beat Woods a third time, he says he’ll “go quietly into the night,” making this match a high-stakes stepping stone toward the Pure title.

The 50-year-old AEW announcer has wrestled sparingly since his in-ring comeback at All In: London, logging seven matches including two hard-fought contests with Moriarty, most recently a 30-minute Iron Man at last December’s Final Battle. Supercard of Honor’s May 15 card also features a multi-woman Survival of the Fittest for the ROH Women’s Championship and Deonna Purrazzo defending the ROH Women’s Pure Title against Diamante.
