Original plans would have seen Aleister Black torment Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42
A PWInsider report reveals WWE originally pitched Aleister Black in the role that ultimately went to Pat McAfee for Randy Orton’s WrestleMania 42 storyline. The concept had Black tormenting Orton to try and draw out his old “Apex Predator” persona, with a planned WrestleMania-weekend confrontation where Orton would hesitate on a Punt Kick and potentially lose.
WWE abandoned that pitch and reworked the angle into the on-screen alliance between Orton and Pat McAfee opposite Cody Rhodes, leaving Black out of the original plan. The shift changed the trajectory of Orton’s Mania weekend and the presentation of his character heading into the post‑WrestleMania season.
