Stephen A. Smith Says Nick Khan Once Pitched Him a WWE Role, But He Declined Over Safety Concerns
During a First Take segment promoting WrestleMania 42, Stephen A. Smith revealed that WWE President Nick Khan once approached him about getting involved in WWE, but he declined the offer. Smith praised Pat McAfee’s work in WWE, said he admires classic heels like Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, and admitted he wasn’t “as courageous” as McAfee because he didn’t want to risk getting hit by “one of them big boys,” offering no timeframe for Khan’s pitch.
Smith — who rose from NBA reporting to become a prominent ESPN commentator and cultural figure — said he loves wrestling but prefers to stay in the broadcast booth rather than the ring. WrestleMania this year will stream live on the ESPN app in the U.S., with simulcasts on ESPN2 and ESPN as part of the promotion leading into matches expected to open the show.
