AEW not focused on outdoing WWE in Detroit, Tony Khan says

AEW president Tony Khan told reporters after Double or Nothing 2026 that the company isn’t trying to “attack the market” when both promotions visit the same city, stressing AEW’s focus is on putting on the best shows possible. Dynamite and Collision are booked in Detroit for July 29–30 at the Masonic Temple Theater, just nine days after WWE Raw at Little Caesars Arena, but Khan said AEW’s priority is maintaining the strong connection between talent, backstage and fans as the company rides a run of strong TV and pay-per-view events.

Khan added AEW is more interested in positive collaboration than competing with other promotions, pointing to partnerships at events like Grand Slam Mexico, Forbidden Door and support for international and independent promotions via MyAEW. He also expressed a “huge affinity” for Detroit — citing landmark shows such as the original Blood & Guts, Royal Rampage and the Mox vs. Kenny cage match — and noted AEW tickets for the July dates go on sale to the public June 1.
