AJ Styles: Lack of live events making it harder for wrestlers to call matches, says veteran
On the latest Phenomenally Retro podcast, AJ Styles argued that the decline in live events has reduced the in-ring reps younger talent need to confidently call matches on the fly. Styles said many veterans could “call it in the ring” because they had wrestled a wide variety of opponents repeatedly, but with fewer live shows and increasingly varied move sets among new stars, improvising in real time is becoming more difficult.
Styles also noted that modern shows often require rehearsals for camera placement and run-ins to get the best shots, rather than rehearsing wrestling spots themselves. Since retiring at the Royal Rumble after a 26-year career and his WWE Hall of Fame induction, Styles has been working backstage at the Performance Center — a role he appears to be embracing, with younger talents publicly acknowledging his one-on-one coaching.

WWE stars praise Natalya and TJ Wilson’s The Dungeon 2.0 for sharpening in-ring skills
Natalya shared a new video on X showcasing training sessions at The Dungeon 2.0, the renovated school she runs with TJ Wilson, calling the project a continuation of her grandfather’s “heart and grit” approach to building resilient performers. The clip underscores their mission to pass on old-school fundamentals to a new generation, with Natalya reiterating the facility is more than a gym—it’s a “love letter to wrestling.”
Several WWE names weigh in on the impact: Liv Morgan credits weekly three-hour sessions for boosting her confidence and performance, Ilja Dragunov used the Dungeon to prep his comeback after an ACL tear, Jacob Fatu praises TJ’s coaching and Natalya’s no-nonsense push, and B-Fab highlights the space as a creative canvas to experiment and build fundamentals. The Dungeon’s influence extends beyond current stars—John Cena visited last year to share industry wisdom—cementing its role as a training hub for talent across promotions.
