Christopher Daniels on Why Hangman Page Was His Final Opponent
Christopher Daniels revealed he chose Hangman Page for his retirement match because Page’s character work at the time could generate significant heat, originally planning a finish where Page would injure or retire him to elevate the feud. Daniels explained to Michael Bochicchio that Page’s transition from heel to babyface altered the intended ramifications, but the two adjusted the storytelling while Daniels praised Page for delivering one of the most powerful promos setting up the bout.
Daniels concluded a 32-year career in 2025, losing to Page in a Texas Death Match on the January 16 edition of Collision, and has since taken on backstage roles with AEW and ROH. He credited Page’s character evolution and promo work as central to how the match played out and how it ultimately became a memorable sendoff in his career.
