CMLL Teams with NFL to Announce 49ers-Vikings Mexico City Game
Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre joined the NFL to reveal the league’s return to Mexico City on November 22, when the San Francisco 49ers will face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football at Estadio Banorte (Estadio Azteca). The announcement video featured CMLL stars MÁSCARA DORADA and Soberano Jr. representing the respective teams, with the league asking fans whether they’re “Team Vikings or Team Niners” as it teased the cross-cultural promotion.
CMLL arrives on the NFL stage after a strong 2025 that included being voted Promotion of the Year in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards and high-profile collaborations — from a Pokemon show to K-pop group BTS attending events. The NFL has also broadened its Mexico tie-ins with licensed lucha masks sold through a partnership involving the league and AEW’s Tony Khan, as the NFL rolls out its international slate ahead of the full 2026/2027 schedule reveal.
