Dakota Kai Reflects on Missed WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship Opportunity
Dakota Kai, who spent nearly a decade in WWE and collected championships in NXT and on the main roster, revealed she was once poised to win the inaugural WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. In January 2025 she faced Lyra Valkyria in the final on the second episode of Monday Night Raw on Netflix; while reports said Kai was planned to win at one point, Valkyria captured the title and held it for 144 days. Kai lost the match, never regained gold in WWE and was released last March, now competing on the independents as Charlie.
In a recent chat with D.S. Shin of Ring The Belle, Charlie praised Valkyria’s work and chemistry, saying “she’s amazing… she’s insane. Everything she did was awesome,” while acknowledging plans can change at the last minute. Since leaving WWE she has challenged Kris Statlander for the EVE International Championship and Shotzi Blackheart for the HOG Women’s Championship, and co-hosts a YouTube show with former Zelina Vega (now ZELVX).
